O Captain! My Captain!
The Giants season is fast approaching and the all time greatest reciever in New York Giants history, Amani Toomer, will be catching balls far from home this year. It goes without saying "Well Dressed Armani" will be missed by Giants fans, not only for his constant ability to make the biggest plays in the tightest of situations, but for his character off the field, and his leadership in the locker room. He will be taking all of these great qualities with him, and I hope he does nothing other than thrive in his new environment. That being said Toomer won't be leaving behind just his legacy, he will be leaving behind his "C". And while Toomer exemplefied everything that a captain should be while he was here, I can think of a couple of guys who more than deserve to stand with Eli in representing this offense every Sunday...
Imagine you're at a Giants game. You're in your favorite seats on the home sidline, nicely kept out of the shade on a beautiful and sunny Sunday afternoon. You've been filling up on beer and Italian sausages for the last four hours, tossing the ball around with your brother-in-law, shouting every prediction in which the Giants are going to dominate the game. Eli might stage a nice drive for a quick first score, and the defense will surely be stout and mighty...probably won't allow a single yard the entire afternoon. All of these fun scenarios run through your head but only one thing is for certain: The first time the Giants offense takes the field there will be a handoff, there will be a hole, and Brandon Jacobs is going to hurt somebody. This is where I would like my fellow fan to take vote. I personally feel that Brandon Jacobs exemplifies everything it means to be a New York Giant. He is a champion, he sets the tone for every game with one drop of the shoulder, and I have never heard so much as a mouse fart from him as far as off-field issues are concerned (minus the occasional New York "swagger"). Couple that with the fact that the man is quite literally a Giant (larger than every linebacker in the NFL), and I think we have our replacement captain.
If this were any other team in football it would be a case closed no brainer, but when speaking about the New York Giants, you can't go without mentioning the outstanding play of the offensive line. Everyone knows the Giants had two one thousand yard rushers last year...but what everyone might not have know is that the same line has managed to stay completely healthy for every game the last two years. They have been the rock of this team, and a huge reason for its success in the past few seasons. Any one of them could have a patch with the "C" and I would be completely sold. O' Hara had it two years ago, he's been the anchor of the line, and based on early reports out of training camp he'll be the most important piece this season...Is there any reason why he shouldn't represent the offensive line and get it again?

I say a lineman
But I was a lineman so I’m a little biased.
Just know, if there's ever a riot at Citi Field and Oliver Perez was the starter, I started the riot.

I've been in love
with the way Jacobs plays since he was at SIU (I was in Carbondale, Illinois at the time) to watch him beat up 150 pound corners in 1AA was a glorious sight, one that is the exact reason i love football. Brandon Jacobs exemplifies the recent history of New York Giants up the Gut, hit you in the mouth football. He’s the vocal leader of the offense and I think that should be recognized in some form. He is also very unselfish and doesn’t make a stink when someone else leads the team in rushing and has been quoted as saying he’d take fewer yards for more titles.

Give me O'Hara
He seems like a great guy, never gets much of a spotlight as a o-liner, and Jacobs runs his mouth too much for my liking at times.

Whoever voted other...
Who was your choice? I was stuck on these two guys but I probably could have thought of one more…

I voted O'Hara,
but if I could take a guess at the ‘other’, it would be Madison Hedgecock. If that aint the name of a leader I don’t know what is.

Agreed.
Definitely should have mentioned him in there.

Even though he's still relatively new
Kevin Boss wouldn’t be a terrible choice for captain.. He’s a quiet guy but he works his ass off. We were told that he wouldn’t be a blocker, well guess what.. He’s a blocker. He also responded to one of my tweets directed at him recently, so he’s endeared himself to me forever. Somebody could find a bunch of dead hookers in his basement and I wouldn’t care very much.

He's already the Bossman
and unlike BJ Upton, he’s not no Jr. either.

I was thinking of considering Boss...
He would be a great choice based on his demeanor and on field performance, but like you pointed out I still think he’s a bit too young, after all he’s only played one full season. If he breaks out this year like most of us suspect he will, I could definitely see him representing the offense in ’10.

Great Question
Someone on the O-line definitely deserves it, but to me, Brandon Jacobs is what the Giants represent: good, old fashioned, smash-mouth football.
So I have to vote Jacobs, although O-hara would deserve it on any other team

Jacobs is a little hot-headed
and occasionally let’s his emotions dictate his actions. I’m a fan of using one of the non-skill position players as a captain because they can give a voice to one of the most important elements of the offense.

Completely agree.
Even moreso considering how well Bradshaw and Ware looked behind that same offenseive line against the Panthers tonight.
