Predictions for Giants Passing Game
Here are my predictions for the Giants receivers (At least Hixon, Smith, and Boss. I can't really guess what Hakeem Nicks will put up, and I'd love to be optimistic about Mario Manningham or Sinorice Moss, but they're all too big of a question mark in my book. One point I'll make: I think one of them will step up. If I had to guess, though, I'd say Manningham will have a quietly decent year as the # 3 receiver, but towards the end Nicks will start to steal some of his receptions. Let's say that together they put up 65 rec and 750 yds, with 3-4 TDs)
Anyways, here's Domenik Hixon:
Prediction: He puts up Derrick Mason/Reggie Wayne type numbers, so 80 rec and 1,100 rec yds with 5-6 TDs.
Reasoning: He averaged 4 rec. and 62 yds per game when Plax was out. Also, his 2 TDs came when Plax was out. Over a full 16 game season, that's 64 rec and 990 yds. Let's assume that with a full offseason to prepare he can build on that which gives you the numbers above.
Now for Steve Smith:
Prediction: I couldn't really find a similar player to compare what I think his stats will look like next year. Numbers wise, I think he'll be around 70 catches and 800-850 yds with a couple of TDs. Eventually I think he has the potential to be a Eddie Royal/Wes Welker type player, and I think watching Royal and Smith both progress could be very interesting. Both are young, possession type players, but Royal benefits immensely from having Brandon Marshall take the double teams, much like Welker benefits having Moss take the doubles. Smith is missing that, and so I think his numbers will be lower than the 90 catches/980 yds/5 TDs Royal put up last year.
Now for Kevin Boss:
Prediction: I think he should improve on last season, but probably won't have an amazing year. Once again, they just don't have the primary targets to allow Boss to enjoy the mismatches he needs to have a really good year. I think he's a solid tight-end, and could put up good numbers, but I don't see him topping 40-45 rec and 500 yds, with 5-6 TDs
Not a receiving group that's going to blow you away, but this could be just enough to keep opposing defenses from loading the box with 8 all the time, allowing our running game to do what it needs to do.
Maybe I'm being too optimistic with Hixon, and maybe I'm erring on the side of caution a bit too much with Smith and Boss. Let me know what you think (I promise, I can take the criticism)

Boss
I disagree about Boss. I think he’s gonna have a great season. He always seems to accumulate plenty of YAC every time he gets a reception. and I think Eli will lean on him with the lack of a true number one reciever.

I think
-You are way too high on Hixon’s numbers
-You are likely just a smidge high on Steve Smith
-You are a bit low for Boss… though you might be right on since Beckum could conceivably eat a bit of the yardage on him.
Hixon...
If Hixon puts up 80 catches for 1,100, that’s not a good thing for Giants fans, because it’ll mean they’re trailing in too many games.
I can't believe I'm saying this
But I actually agree with Bye, Dawk :(. Given the Giant’s run dominated offense, I think a good year for Hixon would be 60-70 catches for about 850 yards.

eh...
he could get 1000 yards. The Giants have said repeatedly they will throw down field. If Hixon actually catches it this time, we all know he can get downfield and beat a few defenders.
I can see him having a few 3-4 catch 100+ yard games.
80 catches is too much, I could see your 60-70 catches but if he gets that many he’s gonna have a ton of yards.
I can actually see around 50-60 catches, but around 900 yards at that. I just think he’ll be the primary deep threat and maybe another offseason of working with him exclusively Eli and him will actually hook up on more than a few bombs

Giants will be like the partiots of old
I see this year’s giants passing game being like the patriots pre moss/welker. I see Manning really spreading the ball around, and not operating with a traditional passing attack, where the starters get a majority of the touches. I see Manning getting the ball to 6-8 receivers (WRs, TEs, RBs, FBs) a game and no receiver averaging more than 4-5 catches per game. Also, no one player will have more than 7 receiving TDs.
depends on the O/C
If Gilbride tries to out-think the defenses we are going to have problems.
Kismet that someone else posted that ‘86 link. During one of Joe Morris’s TD runs, the announcer stated “there was absolutely no surprise in that one. The Giants lined up in their straight set, and they said ‘this is what we are going to do, and you are not going to stop us.’” This is what the 2009 Giants have, a great core running game, they don’t have to try to trick up the D. That they can mix it up, and I think the best way if for Eli to get some of that connection going with Boss, who I think is going to have the best year out of the Giants receivers, 60 catches, 7 TDs
Just the mention of Gilbride thinking
is enough to make me shudder with nausea. With all this talk about receivers, No. 2 backs, D-line and the like, I forgot that one of the year’s determinants will be the success or failure of Kevin Killdrive.
You play to win the game!

Not worries at all
I think that our defense will in fact be so good that we shouldnt have to be throwing the ball downfield often. I do think Steve Smith will have a fine year, and I am hoping that Moss or Mario can make some contributions. If you think about it we actually are loaded up with young talent at the WR position. Granted they still need some time to grow in our system.
