Daydreaming of decapitated QB's

I have to say that this is the most excited I've been for any Giants defense in quite some time. In 2007, the defense developed into a monster but rarely has the Giants defense entered the season with such high expectations. I have been trying to configure in game situations in my head and what the personnel on the D-Line would be.

For example: Eagles 3rd and 9 on the Giants 45 yard line. Gmen are in Nickel with Osi and Kiwi on the ends with Tuck and Canty at Tackle. Will the Eagles hold those guys off or will the speed of the D-line win?

Or....

Cowboys 4th and 1 on the giants 20 yard line. D line is Tuck, Bernard, Robbins and Canty.  Sintim, AP and Boley up the gaps. Will Marion Barber get that yard?

That is the stuff that gets me excited. I also wonder if we will see the Gmen use more Dime packages this year to get AP off the field in passing downs and have Boley and Terrell Thomas get more playing time. Boley can cover better than Pierce. Thomas, Dockery, Ross, Webster, Phillips and Johnson is a pretty darn good coverage unit.

The only weakness I see is if a team uses a hurry up/no huddle offense when the run stoppers are in the game. I am eager to know what other fans think of this defense and how the personnel will be used.

With all my daydreaming of battered QB's, I wonder though if the Giants D-Line will cause teams to throw more timing patterns and open themselves up for turnovers. There could be a scenario where the sack totals are not impressive but interceptions and fumbles might go up.

So answer this for me. Will this D-Line dominate?

Absolutely

I think you answered the question for yourself for the most part. A lot of the scenarios you presented were pretty intriguing and I would personally enjoy seeing that 4th and 1 against the Boys.
The most critical part about the D-Line that needs to be focused on is the importance of the coverage. Our corners with another year under their belt, should excel in the system and the league. Ross needs to have the breakout year that we’re all hoping he will, as well as Phillips emerging as a consistent every down starter. Johnson and Webster have gained my faith from their play over the past two seasons, so I’m not necessarily worried about them. But if the other two, along with Terrell Thomas and Dockery continue to step up and make plays, this D-Line could go down as possibly one of the best in Giants History. The amount of speed, strength, size, and versatility to go along with a great amount of depth makes them a mismatch across the board for offensive line schemes.

nah

The awesome Giants D didnt sack us once last year. We’ve upgraded on the line and got Andrews back.

and two years ago we sacked you

1,304,835 times. This is a new season, and we’ve upgraded on the lines as well. You really want to bet that the Giants won’t take McNabb down once this year?

No

They should get us a few times I’m sure… but that would be cool if they didnt lol

They do seem pretty one minded

but if it makes them happy, we should let them. Having something related to football making them happy would be nice.

well the Giants DIDN'T sack

McNabb without Andrews, and now they are moving him to tackle….so?

Oh, and we didn’t have Osi either. You know, the guy that ended your promising 2nd round pick’s career?

Sack Record

I’m predicting that not only do the Gmen lead the league in sacks, they make a run at the all time sack record of 72 (I think) by the Bears in 85.

yeah, getting the sack record would be nice, but that doen’t ensure a title.that’s all i’m concerned about.
