Wednesday Walk Around the NFL: 7.15.09

Happy Wednesday Giants fans, let me start by saying that in honor of 'cjmulrain,' I kicked my monitor down the stairs.
- Let's take a look at the stories making headlines around the NFL:
- NFL Players are storming Capitol Hill today to build political support in the possible labor showdown with owners.
- For you video gamers, the Madden 10 demo is almost ready.
- Pete Prisco gives you five teams that didn't make the playoffs in 2008 but he thinks will in 2009.
- Bernie Kosar says his financial troubles had him briefly contemplating suicide.
- The Packers and Aaron Kampman are still adjusting to the 3-4 defense.
- A former Giants first-round pick got schooled by a High Schooler this week, Yahoo Sports has the video.
That's all for now, slow news week. Have a great day everyone.

That Lebron story
is just amazing. What an idiot. He should have laughed, high-fived the player who dunked on him, and moved on with the game. That would show everyone how cool he is — but he’s not.
2. Pete Prisco is taking shots in the dark.
3. If the 3-4 works well for the Pack things are going to get unbearable around here with the 3-4 clique.

Never been a big fan of the 3-4
particularly since the Giants personnel right now is so 4-3 intense that switching is not an option. Could any of the Giants ends/tackles play effectively in a 3-4?

I'm glad you asked....
An objective look would show that with only one or two key additions we could once again domionate the league defensively like we did in 86.
“But why switch?” Because, as the last two years have shown, opposing offenses have made our current scheme less effective. That ‘s the way it is in the NFL….a successful defense loses it’s effectiveness as coaches figure out how to neutralize our front four.
The 3-4 defense is the best pressure defense possible and takes a lot of pressure off the defensive backs.

I don't like the 3-4...
Because what I understand about it, it’s all about confusing the offense where the blitz is coming from, or in other words, for defense’s who aren’t so great that they need some help with confusion.
With our front line, I don’t think that’s necessary seeing how dominant it should be.
Please discuss, I’d like to know why you think the 3-4 is better.

unless you jump in a time machine
I don’t think the 3-4 can be as effective without LT

agreed
bottom line, the Giants are stacked on the line and weak in the linebackers. To go to a D that required them to be deep & talented at linebacker is counterintuitive.

The number 1 defense in 2008 was the Steelers and their 3-4 defense..
So don’t think the 3-4 is outdated. A bunch of teams are converting now that the majority of the teams in the NFL pass first and run second. The 3-4 allows more flexibility against the pass without giving up on run defense by using a 5th defensive back.

May upset some of the b ball fans
But I think Prince James is overrated. MJ, your throne is safe!

He's overrated
if you want to call him ‘King’, cuz to me the King’s gotta win a championship first.
But the guy’s not overrated in any sense. Yea he’s not the greatest shooter, and he isn’t a killer at the FT line like guys like Kobe and MJ.
But you have to realize that while I don’t think anyone will ever 3-Peat twice (and probably would have 2-3 more champs if he didn’t retire twice), that MJ and Kobe for that matter had a supporting cast that stepped up.
Lebron’s got some nice players around him, maybe not a Shaq like Kobe had, but its really guys like Derek Fisher and Steve Kerr and Derek Harper and Dennis Rodman..guys like that who step up and make MJ who he is.
Lebron’s got to do everything all the time cuz his teammates just wilt under pressure. I don’t know if its Lebron’s leadership, his coach Mike Brown, or just certain guys aren’t cuz out for it.
But I wouldn’t call Lebron overrated, cuz he’s FAR from that.

Patriots
Boy based on everything I’ve read and heard so far they may as well give the Lombardi trophy to the New England Patriots right now. Sheesh!
