What the Giants have might not be enough for another lombardi trophy.

Now I am not one of your more pecimistic New York Giants fans out there but I do have to say that it might not be enough. Now the most glaring aspect of big blue is and will be the lack of a veteren presence at the wide reciever position. And that has been well documented as well as eli's performance along with the entire offense once plax was taken out of the equation. And with good reason. Now to think Hakeem Nicks will come in and buck the trend of rookie wide recievers in the nfl and have a succesful first yr...(ala Desean Jackson of that win nothing team down I95 in philly) would be wishful thinking. No matter how polished they say he is. As talented as he is, its going to take time. And as far as the "veteren" recievers on the roster, Steve Smith is a very valuable posession/slot reciever. I call him Mr. 3rd down. he moves the chains. He is not a gamebreaker. Domenik Hixon has the speed to be a gamebreaker, And i really, really hope he can do the job but im not sure if he can. He is basically a practice squad player cut by Denver and signed by the Giants. To eventually be thrust into a #1 reciever role on a legitimate super bowl contender? Dont think he has what it takes. Besides would love to see him go back to return duties. Sinorice Moss? All im gonna say is he has one foot out the door, he better step up but dont count on it. Now Mario Manningham is the wildcard here. If he can come in and be like he was in college then that would go a long way in making it to february football. And theres Travis Beckham and Ramses Barden. Talented players but again Rookies need time. I believe we will again have a top 5 defense if not top 3. The defense will again need to be the backbone of this Giant team. It's scary to think of how good our defensive line will be. Then throw in a pass rushing rookie linebacker in Sintim?...........Watch out Donavan and yeah you too Tony Homo. And how many 1st and 2nd round draft picks do we have in our secondary????!!!!! Defense will not be the problem my friends. Should be around tops in the league on special teams as well. Man TC is a good coach. Remember how horrible special teams were under Fassel? Seems like a long time ago. Again it all has to come together on the field of course and
Eli has to continue to keep getting better. He has the talent and has proven that already but needs to do it more consistently. I dont know guys, cant wait for the season to start. i just hope it's enough...What do you think?

we weren’t good enough to make the playoffs two years ago after we lost Tiki and won the super bowl – with a team full of rookies that stepped up B shaw – Boss – and Smith – got rid of shockey and without Osi we won 12 games last year – why not this year ?- also D Ward was taken off of the Jets practice squad and was made into a number one back – Hixon was also a practice squad / return guy – I have confidence in our coaching staff and in our players – sometimes team wins more games than just talent – just ask the ’Boys who believe they will be better without TO – I think we can be better without Plax – we are still a defensive and power football team like you said – and I think Eli will slowly start to take more control of HIS offense

Hey Tom n Jerry, I agree

Hey Tom, alot of what u r saying is true. Rookies stepped up and played a big role in winning the super bowl. Bradshaw was huge in the Tampa game that yr. Toomer and our defense were key in beating Dallas…among other players. But we would not have beaten the pack in Lambeau w/out plax, never would have gotten to Arizona w/out him. You have to agree with me on that. No doubt we have the talent on offense potentially w/ our rookies. Can lightning strike twice? Im sure it can….will it? god im hoping it does. Everything has to come together like it did in ‘07. But your right, Eli has to step up and take control of his offense. You know the defense will be there, but will the offense? We’ll see.

I do agree

Plax destroyed Al Harris in that game and another game that sticks out off the top of my head is the Jets game stiff arming his way to a score – and more than once his plays were just enough for us to win against Philly – well I guess that about sums it up – his production will be missed – but it doesn’t mean that it can’t be replaced – certainly it cant with one guy – but like you said maybe lightning can strike twice – maybe we can catch some lightning in a bottle its safe to say that there are enough candidates this year to do it – although I would like an average but experienced wide out to help the new guys along more so than producing on the field- (I think we are going to miss Toomer a lot this year) just like sam madison groomed our DB’s and helped them into what they are today – we didnt make it easy on ourselves releasing Plax and I would rather have him on the field than not – although I feel like it was the right move – - I would be surprised and disappointed if we miss the playoffs this year – and thats really all I want at the start of a season – to be competitive -

Moss is a wild card i feel

I watched an interview with Moss and a reporter and they said he caught all balls thrown his way last year. If that is true i fell this year may be his stand out year where he might shine. I think hes better then everyone is giving him credit for, but he just didn’t get open enough last year, or Eli didn’t look because he had other targets he trusted more. If you don’t get open Eli wont throw the ball in his direction. If that is why Eli didn’t throw the ball his direction because he wasn’t open then so be it, but if he was open but Eli didn’t throw the ball because he wasn’t looking his way then he deserves another chance. He better do good this year or he wont be back…. I’m not even going to talk about the D because with that roster and talent there’s nothing more to say !!! GO GIANTS

Moss's size make it easy for him to get lost as far as the QB's

sight goes. I think he has proven his hands are fine, It’s what he does after he catches the ball that concerns me. He seems to freeze for a moment, allowing defenders to smother him. Very tentative, not taking advantage of his speed, or any moves he might have. ( I don’t recall having seen him demonstrate he has any.).

Moss hatin

Guys the kid has got skills. Former U player. Give the kid a break. Coming to the Giants when he did, there wasn’t much room for him. He didn’t exactly build a commanding relationship with Manning with Toomer/Plax/Shockey on the roster now did he.

I think its all in his head. His brother (relative same size/speed) does great catching close on 1000 yrds per year. Don’t tell me his diminutive stature plays that big a role… look at Caroline’s Steve Smith, Cincy’s Laverneus Coles… there are smaller guys doing relatively well for themselves in this league.

Yes there are some intangibles here to be straightened away but this team is SOLID.
A few lil things to deal with that’s all!

I couldn't possibly digest that entire paragraph

but I think I got the gist of it, unproven WR and what not. I don’t want to say the WR position is overrated, but ever time I hear this argument I think about those Patriot teams that won three Super Bowls; can anyone name any of those receivers? Granted, Eli is no Brady. Like you alluded to at the end, the success of the Giants’ passing game has more to do with the progression of Manning than the inexperienced WR unit.

I still say Go after Boldin!

This brings them over the top. Maybe one of the rookies will break out? Tough to count on that. Hixon has speed but the hands are a question. Moss is going nowhere. Maybe Manningham can grow into a go to guy. Look, i hope i’m wrong about this but With all of the resources the Giants have, i take a chance on Boldin. He is a force!

Tougher to stretch the D

Lack of Plax will make it a lot tougher to stretch the defense. Unless we have big years from the TE and Brandon Jacobs, it will be a tough year. With a good TE and RB presence, whoever we split out wide can be a factor. Losing Plax really wrecked our gameplan. One of those young guys will really have to shine, there is a lot riding on it
