Let's set the record straight...
I wrote this in one of the fanshots but I spent some time on it and thought everyone should read it.
Anyways, I'm sick of people saying with plax we were 11-1 and without 1-4. Plax didn't even play 12 games. I'm also sick of everyone saying we're going to suck without plax and Eli is a horrible QB. So here's what I wrote before:
"I’m sick of everyone saying with plax we’re 11-1. He didn’t even play 12 complete games. So without further adieu, the games without plax
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_New_York_Giants_season
Week 5 vs. Seattle: 44-6, giants get most total offensive yards since 2002 vs. Green Bay, WITHOUT plax
Week 6 vs. Cleveland: Get our asses handed to us by the Browns with Plax. (Just saying)
Week 12 vs Arizona: Plax suspended first quarter. Plays not even a whole series and goes out with a leg injury. We win 37-29, Eli throws 3 tds and 0 ints.
Week 13 vs Washington: First game after Plax gets bullet-in-leg disease. Manning throws for 300 yards and we do one td better than the first time around.
Week 14 vs Philly: Eeek. Horrible game, happens to be the only one I went to. Hixon dropped a bomb and Westbrook gets two tds that never should have happened. It was great that we blocked a FG and returned it, but we should of had McNabb stopped when it was 3 and 11. This one hurt alot. 1 loss without plax.
Week 15 vs Dallas: Sackfest. Can’t win games when your qb’s on his back and Jacobs is out. Plaxless record: 3-2
Week 16 vs Carolina: Epic game, D looked awful but came together towards the end and Manning showed why we love him. 4-2
Week 17 vs Minnesota: Shouldn’t count, Minnesota barely beat our 2nd stringers and Carney missed his only non blocked fg of the season. 4-3 if you want to count this.
Playoffs: We got beat, straight up. Philly played better and wanted it more. Nothing else to say. 4-4
w/ Plax record: 8-1 w/o Plax record: 4-4 (including vikings game)
Now no one ever say we were 11-1 with plax and 1-4 ever again."
So yes, plax is a great talent and is better than our current WRs, but to say we can't win without them is ignorant.
So now if anyone says we only one a game without plax, you can show them this link and disprove them. Enjoy. Go Giants!!!

You can also add the Steelers game
where he barely played. Offense didn’t do so good, but neither did any offense against the Steelers.
Saying 11-1 and 1-4 pissed me off too. But you realize that its usually non-Giants fans and media idiots that say it, then it really doesn’t matter.

If a recall correctly
Eli didn’t hit the ground once, that’s how good our o-line was that day. Unlike the Steeler’s, Rothelsberger getting hit around alot.

I like the way you broke that down
It’s getting quite tired the way fans and the media think we can’t or won’t win without Plax or (Boldin, Edwards and next…..Marshall). We’ve got some talent at the wideout position and to say a rookie can’t come in and be productive is IMO silly. This whole WR mess will be put to bed once Smith, Nicks, Hixon or Moss or whoever gets behind the opposing defense and burns them for a 68 yard bomb. It’s only going to take one CB getting his ace burned to set the table for the rest of the year.
They say defense wins championships and on paper I would say we have a top 3 D and a top 3 running attack. More importantly, the offense and Gilbride has had a year to get over the Plax shock and plan for life and without him. Without Plax, Eli will spread the ball around because there should be a lot of 1 on 1 coverage. I like those odds and this WR corps.

I agree
Hey, don’t get me wrong but i still think plax was awesome at his prime. however, i 100% agree with you. we don’t need him to win nor should we. ahmad bradshaw will have his time, dont forget danny ware, and our d-line just got better. all of that talk about how the giants were 1-4 w/o plax was the general picture. the way you put this article was everything that all giants fans need to hear. thanks!

Nice write-up, but I'm going to play devil's advocate here...
Just for full disclosure purposes, let me first say that I’m an Eagles fan, and my opinion of Burress may be a little off simply because he has absolutely KILLED us over the years. I’m extremely happy Burress is gone, and I credit him as the sole reason Philly won both of those games in the Meadowlands, and not for his pass catching ability. The reason Philly won those games was because we completely sold out to stop the run (which we did effectively enough), jamming the line of scrimmage with defenders, and taking our chances with Asante Samuel and Sheldon Brown defending one on one.
I think that if Burress plays those games, the Eagles are forced to respect Burress’ presence and the Giants dominate in the running game on those cold, windy days.

I tend to agree
but, I also think legitimate credit has to be given to the Eagles – other teams loaded up on the Giants run and couldn’t do a damn thing about it (see: Panthers, Carolina). The Eagles just had fantastic schemes and shut it down in a way most other teams couldn’t.

I'm not saying he won't be missed
Far from it. Burress is a very unique WR, and definitely a good one. But the misconception that the Giants cannot win without Burress just plain annoyed be so much that I wrote this. We definitely need a new gameplan for next year but hopefully one of our guys steps up and gives us a somewhat decent threat downfield.
I can’t wait for the new season to start so we don’t have to worry about this and can actually see who’s better, not just boast about it.

It’s not just Burress that needs to be replaced, by the way… There’s another guy that led the team with 1409 yards from scrimmage last year and accounted for 24.7% of the offense.

Ward (I presume)?
I’m not worried about the loss of Ward at all. I love Ward as much as the next giant fan, but he didn’t do all too much without Jacobs (e.g. 2nd Cowboys game). Bradshaw more of a change of pace back than Ward and more explosive. The one worry I would have is that Ward is bigger than Bradshaw and is a better blocker than Bradshaw. I don’t expect the running game to miss a beat.

Eli
Forget the Giants record overall, with plax and without just go to NFL.com and look up Eli’s stats month by month and look at his numbers in the month of December compared to the first three months of the season and you tell me that the impact wasn’t felt by Eli without Plax. The numbers don’t lie and saying we were 4-4 without plax is great, but if the Giants are a five hundred team we are not making the Playoffs and thats not good enough for a team that should be a Super bowl contender.

What happened was
We set up a certain system in which, wisely, Plaxico was the “frontman” for a time. That was the way the system worked because of Plaxico’s presence. And because of it, he got a lot of attention. But to say that since he’s no longer a Giant, and we’ll lose “X” amount of games because of it, is idiotic. The system worked well with him, and it’ll work fine without him. It’s all about adjustments, and with the current guys we have, you will surely see new wrinkles – new adjustments -mind you, without Plax. Adjustment to change is what makes or breaks you, not the change itsself.
We didn't even have a chance for the "perfect season", but we did have the perfect ending.
