Not really

except maybe the Cowboys. As for the other:

Seahwaks because they have been dominant in that division but had a terrible run of injuries last year. Still not convinced the Cards were anything other than a fluke.
Packers because Rodgers seems legit, they have a good WR corps and Dom Capers should improve their D. Passed on the Vikings due to their qb situation and the fact that the Williams Wall will be out for the first 4 games.
Saints, two words: Drew Brees, the best qb in the NFC.
Jets because I respect Rex Ryan. The new coach/ rookie qb combo worked well last year. I also doubt Brady will play like 2007, at least not in the first half of the season.
Chargers and Steelers need no explaination.
Colts over Titans because with the loss of Haynesworth their D should decline, and its not as if Kerry Collins will step up to another level.

by aussie_cowboy on Jun 16, 2009 3:33 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think we have yet to see the best QB play from Kerry Collins, believe it or not… and this is coming from a guy who cut up his Kerry Collins jersey the night after we won the Green Bay NFC Championship just to exorcise my demons lol. Something tells me that him knowing he’s the guy this year, as opposed to entering the season as a backup, makes him want to finish strong and bring the Titans to the superbowl…. and he now has Kenny Britt. Also, Chris Johnson will be even better this year than last, and if they can find more ways to get him the ball in open space, the Titans will be ridiculous next year.

As for the Jets, you can’t have Flacco/Ryan beer goggles, rookie QBs taking their teams to the playoffs is a freak occurrence. Even though the Jets are a solid team for a rookie QB to have success with, the learning curve is HUGE. The guy has to learn how to face NFL-caliber defenses and if he’s like most rookie QBs, will get eaten alive his first couple games.

by mahmoodzaky on Jun 16, 2009 11:41 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

also

I love love love Joe Flacco – I’ve written about my man-crush on him on this site many times (same college and all that), but Flacco didn’t take the Ravens to the playoffs, their defense did. He had a decent rookie season, but if he wasn’t playing with a world class D that team doesn’t sniff the postseason.

Why are the panthers 3rd in the NFC south?

They just won the NFC 2 seed and have lost no players at all, so why do they go from 11-5 to 3rd in the NFC south? If it’s because of Jake Delhomme, that doesn’t make sense since he has a higher winning percentage as a QB than the QBs of every team you have in the playoffs besides Brady and Peyton

by mahmoodzaky on Jun 16, 2009 11:45 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

cuz Jake Delhomme single handedly

took the Panthers out of the playoffs. He was not the reason the Panthers were any good.

THeir running game is on par with the Giants, they have a WR that is 10x better than Plaxico at his best, and their defense is pretty damn good too.

THeir running game probably will be good again, but Delhomme sucks, and Peppers wants out. In the NFC South the best team one year NEVER wins the division again.

by FreeBradshaw on Jun 17, 2009 7:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

who cares

supposedly the last team in the NFC south wins the division the next year, right? well that didn’t happen with the falcons, so all that superstition/tradition, whatever you want to call it, means nothing to me. like you said, very good defense, great run game (remember deangelo williams four touchdowns against us??), and like i said jake delhomme has one of the highest winning percentages in the league, he’s only behind peyton and brady. i guarantee you they win 11-12 games next season.

by mahmoodzaky on Jun 18, 2009 9:50 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Your forgetting something...

Delhomme cant come back from a deficit. Facing a Cardinals defense with a weak pass rush and average secondary he threw something like 4-5 picks. All he does is let his running game and O line do the work

kinda reminds me of eli now that i think of it

by matt313 on Jun 25, 2009 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

aussie what are you smoking?? what ever it is i think you're smoking don't want any

cowgirl’s over the Giants get real noway even if the g-men have injuries on d they have to much depth for dismissal like that, The falcons and panthers will fight it out ,and the saint will be nowhere to be found. Seahawks good.viking and bears will be fighting there because of pac lake of d. I like the jets but the patriot have that their all tied up if Brady stays up right and not injured. chargers and steelers good but not sure about the colts, texans and titans will probably be over them i hate to say. I’m pulling for the colts but don’t think so this year.

Looks like a few ppl agree

with my post, re: NYG, GB, ATL, NO, SEA and SD, PIT, NE, TEN.

Here’s what I don’t get: How are people writing of the Dolphins? They had a major turnaround, have a good coach and a bit of talent, and they’re still in a Parcells-build.

Also, I do love how the ‘girls fan took a realistic NFC east and then stuck Dallas atop! Whatever you’re smoking, I … um… okay I DO want some.

You play to win the game!

by Simms-McConkey on Jun 15, 2009 11:07 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree, great points

and my in-laws make sure I know the Pats are the greatest thing around, but… if the Parcells phenomenon is in effect, they should continue to improve. If they can split their games against the top-notch competition, they’ll have a shot. I just wonder if the Patriots are sure to go back to 2007-level play. There ahve been some significant personnel changes in their secondary and other places (I’m thinking at least Samuels, Hobbs, Vrabel, Seau, did Meriwether leave?, Stallworth, Corey Dillon…) I know they’ve picked up good guys in Mayo and Taylor but… call em crazy, i say the AFC east is a similar 3-team dogfight to last year, and the Jets are the team to fold it first.

You play to win the game!

Write it down!

NFC:
East 1)Giants 2)Eagles(y) 3)Redskins 4) Cowgirls
West 1)Cards 2)Seahawks3)Rams4)49ers
North 1)Vikings 2)Bears 3)Packers 4)Lions
South 1)Saints 2)Falcons(y)3)Panthers 4)Bucs

AFC:
East 1)Patriots 2)Dolphins(y) 3) Bills 4) Jets
West 1)Chargers 2)Chiefs3)Raiders 4) Broncos
North 1)Steelers 2)Ravens 3)Browns 4)Bengals
South 1)Colts 2)Jags(y)3)Texans 4)Titans

The Gmen will be the Beasts of the NFL again and prove to be a better team than they were during the first 11 games of last season! The Eagles and Vikings have gotten better this off season as well so I expect them to be our toughest comp. coming out of the NFC. The AFC is tough but I think the Pats and the Chargers will battle it out for the Conference as long as neither team sustains injuries at key positions.

Every name written correctly exept the Cowboys?

Well, its easy to tell this isn’t the No Homers club. Ithink it’s funny that the rest of the NFC East spends so much time on their blogs writing about how much they hate the Cowboys. At BTB its mostly about football. It’s cool, though. Iv’e excepted the fact that we became the Yankees of football. I hate our bandwagon fans, too. But, as a lifelong Cowboy fan, you get use to it. Most of them think Randy White was a coach. There’s NO WAY we go last in the division. NONE. Take off the homer mask so you can see it.

Considering that the Cowboys

are the only team to not actually go out and try to improve, there really is no reason to expect them to be any worse than worst in the division.

Most teams fear D-Ware, but also Greg Ellis was a damn good pass rusher. You think these other 1st round picks (busts so far…) will just come on the field and equal him?

To was a cancer too, but he was your most productive WR. Now teams can use that safety to cover Witten, your only real threat in the offense.

Coming From A Skins fan

that is hilarious. How much did you guys pay for Haynseworth again?

by aussie_cowboy on Jun 20, 2009 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

$41 million in guaranteed money

for the best DT on the planet. Don’t even think about coming back with that $100 million nonsense, because you and I both know he will never see it. The Bucs were ready to offer Haynesworth even more. I think it’s worth it just to watch him crush Romo twice a year for the next 5 years.

Get this

Redskins and Cowgirl banter out of here.

If we wanted to discuss the 3rd place and 4th place teams in the Beast this season, then we’ll argue who’s where.

I hope he does beat the crap out of Romo. Haynesworth was still made by the Titans system. If you think he’ll be that good now that he’s got at least $41 million reasons to coast, you must be a Daniel Snyder crony.

Who cares? At 5-0, you can win ugly too!

by Hootman on Jun 22, 2009 9:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

nah

the Redskins very rarely bottom out. They either start great and finish slow or vice versa, but they usually end up right around .500. Of course, that couple with Snyder undervaluing draft picks means they never get good picks and they rarely have more than a few in any given draft, ensuring that they’ll have to overpay for the next batch of free agents, ensuring that they’ll finish around 8-8 again, ensuring that they won’t get a good draft pick, and on and on.

Haynesworth wont "crush" Romo at all

The last time Haynesworth played against the Cowboys, Gurode shut him down and he was left with only three tackles and no sacks. Haynesworthis overrated

"overrated"

Sorry, you must be thinking of that WR who has only cleared 1000 yards once in his 5-year career. You know the one JJ just overpaid for, that left the Cowchokes with possibly the worst draft ever.

Just to inform you
To was a cancer too, but he was your most productive WR. Now teams can use that safety to cover Witten, your only real threat in the offense.

In 2004, with Vinny Testaverde at QB and Keyshawn and Witten as the number 1 and 1b options, Witten finished with 87 catches, 980 yards and 6 TDs…

Are you really trying to sell the idea that Witten will be under control?

Viva México! Go Cowboys!

by Chandus on Jun 25, 2009 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Keyshawn

is 30x the WR that Roy Williams is. Single coverard for Roy Williams is all that’s needed.

And also the fact taht FLozel Adams is still your LT? That mean’s Romo’s running for his life AGAIN.

So that means more picks when they actually have to double cover Witten now.

by FreeBradshaw on Jun 25, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ummm... Regarding Flo...

He injured his left hand and left knee last year… Which means that as a LT he played without his left side… And without the starting LG… And still, he only allowed 7.25 sacks and 3 holding penalties…

Let’s compare that to David Diehl! 6.5 and 1? Oh, but I know, he’s a strength run blocking! Flo’s also a really really good run blocker…

Oh, wait, it’s obvious that Flozell is on a downward spiral… Oh, wait, in 2007 he had 3.5 and 5… And was great as a run blocker…

Oh, maybe you’re just WRONG…

Viva México! Go Cowboys!

by Chandus on Jun 25, 2009 5:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Id take

David Diehl’s shadow over a completely healthy Flozell Adams.

Stats like the ones you mentioned mean crap, cuz you forgot the 1000 false starts Adams has and the 2 Diehl has.

Flozel Adams sucks, that’s a fact.

by FreeBradshaw on Jun 25, 2009 6:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh, a false start is more important...

… Than a sack allowed or a holding penalty (which, most likely, would have been a sack)…

I see… Pretty knowledgeable…

In need of Football 101 classes r ya?

BTW....
Keyshawn is 30x the WR that Roy Williams is. Single coverard for Roy Williams is all that’s needed.

Is he? Maybe, I loved Keyshawn and was really sad to see him getting replaced by Owens… That was a kick in the nuts… But saying that Keyshawn at the time in which he played for our team (a 30 year old WR without wheels) was 30x the WR that Roy Williams is right now at age 26 is a bit of a head scratcher…

Please, let me also hear how many x’s Vinny had over today’s Romo. I’m guessing that I’ll get a laugh.

dude, come on

what a joke. don’t flatter yourself/your blog, this is one of the best football blogs on the internet and give credit where its due. just look at all our posts about the eagles, it kills all of us to write anything praising them but we give credit where its due. there is just nothing at all to respect about the cowboys for the past decade and a half. i think alot of cowboy fans would agree with that statement too.

Losing Haynesworth

will set them back on D.

RAK EM UP!

by VA_Skin on Jun 20, 2009 12:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Actually not that big a stretch

losing Haynesworth isn’t the end of the world, but losing Schwartz too is the big reason they take a step back.

You also can’t expect bonehead, aka Kerry Collins, to continue to be less of a bonehead.

Also you have Peyton without offseason surgery, and should Matt Shaub actually stay healthy for a full season? And I know the Jags took a step back, but you can’t say they won’t rebound they are too good.

Its really not that big a stretch to think the Titans come in 4th. Last season was a bit of an aberration.

Problems with AFC East and South

East: Pats, Jets, Fins, Bills
South: Texans, Titans, Colts, Jags

How can you put the jags in the playoffs over the texans offensive juggernaut and developing defense… They have Ryans, Cushing, Okoye, Williams and Robinson on D
If Shaub can stay healthy then they have him Johnson, Slaton, WAlker and a young and improving OLine

by matt313 on Jun 25, 2009 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have to see the Texans actually do it

before i give them the AFC South. Every year they’re the trendy pick, and every year they struggle. I have to say though, on paper the AFC South looks like it could be murder this year.

The Cowboys last

Really Really the Cowboys last in the Division?? Yea man REALLY REALLY!! The Eagles and Giants both improved, and the Redskins are just a better team period. So yea the NFC East looks like this

Giants 13-3
Eagles 11-5
Redskins 9-7
Cowboys 7-9

Not that the Cowboys are bad by any means, they just arent as good as the other teams in the NFC east. GO GMEN!

But the NFC South, no way Falcons don’t win at least the wild card if not the division.

by BigLui12 on Jun 20, 2009 3:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

don;t be so sure.

that division always goes in circles.

Ryan could be due for a soph slump, tho with Tony G on the team I doubt it. The real problem will be the defense as well as Michael Turner coming back to earth.

I doubt the Falcons go higher than 9-7 next season and just miss the playoffs. IMO that still will mean 2nd place tho, cuz the Bucs suck, Julius Peppers will not come to play every game and Jake Delhomme sucks.

The Saints will be the comeback team of the year tho. I can see Brees breaking all kinds of records….and getting knocked out in their first playoff game.
