Wednesday Walk Around the NFL: 4.29.09
Happy Wednesday Giants fans, as we welcome ‘cj' into the BBV family today, let's take a look at some of the stories making headlines around the NFL:
- Special teams' guru Frank Gansz passed away over the weekend. Many of you may be too young to remember him, but he was probably the best special teams' coach the league has ever known. He was with Kansas City through most of the 80's, and the Chiefs always had one of the most dangerous special teams in the league.
- For you draftniks, get ready: it's probably going to become a three day event.
- Brett Favre, you've been released by the Jets, and you are now free to sign with another team. Please don't.
- David Thomas from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram has a tongue-in-cheek look at the Cowboys draft.
- NFL Gridiron Grab says there is a new attitude forming in Minnesota.
- The Sporting News says that if nothing else, Al Davis is reliable
- The NFL will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the AFL this year; the old AFL teams will be wearing throwback uniforms. I think I now know the real reason Jay Cutler wanted to be traded.
Remember tomorrow is the final in the series on the Great Moments in Giants Stadium History, be sure to check it out.
Final Note: Happy Anniversary mrs.jrs1940. 9 years of love, laughs, and good times. Here's to many more.

3 day draft?
First they change the time of the draft.
Now they’re going to start it on Thursday?
They’re going to have an 18 game schedule.
Which automatically means that the playoffs are going to be expanded to include more teams.
They’re considering having the conference championship games at neutral sites.
Did Bud Selig become the new NFL commissioner and I didn’t hear about it?

The news about the AFL Jerseys is one of the best things I've heard all year
I wish the NBA would do something like this with the former ABA teams. Nothing like seeing modern athletes in the butt-ugly uniforms of the 60’s and 70’s.
Also, Happy Anniversary

i dunno if this makes any sense
but I hate “modern” colored jerseys. Like the dark green eagles vs. bright ugly green. Same thing with the rams.

Anyone know...
Why Ramses Barden chose #13.. he wore #11 in college and no one on the team is #11. He’s listed on giants.com as #13.. was planning on getting my bro the jersey just wanna make sure its for real

Unlike most GIANTS fans, Ramses picked 13 because he knows how unlucky he is
now that his agent finally let him in on the joke that NYG only selected him as nothing more than a sparring partner for Micah Rucker.
I’ve been waiting for SOMEONE to realize that all this excitement about him and how we finally have a 6’6 220 lbs. WR sounded kinda familiar???
Did you notice how pissed Goodell was when he had to announce that the GIANTS were takin the kid? He knew Barden didn’t have a chance of being anything more than a backup to Rucker!!!
It’s really a cruel joke on a poor guy from a small school!!!!

I initially liked Goodell
But now it seems like he is tampering with too much. An old adage about “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” seems to apply here. He should be spending his time trying to figure out how to avoid an uncapped 2010 and institute a rookie salary cap then make the draft longer. I like having a day to pot around the house and have the draft on in the background, not worry about packing a lunch for work the next day or grading papers while I’m watching. The Cowboys writer is great though. “A guy to hold the ball for the kicker on a windy day”. Priceless.

Although
I hate the team now, seeing Pat the Patriot will bring back fond memories of a childhood when the Patriots were benign and mostly harmless. I loved that old uni as a kid.

I completely agree.
The old Patriots uniform was great, even though I hate them with all my might. Vague memories of Jim Nance and Guy Morriss.
