Looks like

The Evans kid was picked as Big Ten player of the year pre-season in 2 publications I have, so may have some added talent on the loaded line!

Rashad kid seems to be a steady player as he finished with the team lead in tackles in 2008 and high up in 2009.

Mainor kid was all Sun Belt first team last year and pre season this year and the publication says he is good pass rusher and has the ability to stand up and play LB in the NFL. Hmm….

Hill kid has been all C-USA last 2 years leading the team with 11 TD last year. The publication says he is the 4th best pro prospect pre season and says can start in the NFL!!

Hope that helps some.

I remember Darius Hill having a pretty big game against Rutgers

back in the ‘08 International Bowl (all for nothing, of course, since I think Rutgers hung 50+ on Ball State). He had pretty good hands, and seemed open every time he needed to be, but I don’t remember much else.

ol depth

the reason they arent adding unproven oline rookies in a poor o line class is becasue this years draft is not very strong and after beatty was taken there wasnt much quality there better off pickin up an old guy who can be a stop gap for a year or two. n evans was amazin at psu great motor off the edge little undersized but i really hopes he makes the roster

I have no idea who any of these guys are. Oh well.

Reese knows what he’s doing.

Evans

Was a stud in 2007 at Penn State, but had a bunch of off-field problems leading up to 2008 and was overshadowed by Maybin last season.

I think he had 12.5 sacks in 2007. If he had stayed another year and done as well as ‘07, it’s not impossible he could been a relatively early pick in next year’s draft. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone over at the SBNation Penn State blog, www.blackshoediaries.com, would be willing to put together a scouting report of sorts on him.

Interesting

I wonder why so much focus on D

probably because most of the draft was focused on offense. 2 WRs, TE, RB, QB, OT to LB and 2 CBs.

Just a guess, but ...

Any of these UDFA’s who make the team are likely to play almost exclusively on special teams. Defensive players make better special teams guys, generally, because they are used to tackling. Of course, it could mean nothing at all.

by Ed Valentine on Apr 27, 2009 10:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Surprising there are no kickers in there

Given the age of Carney and Feagles

Carney is gone

Tynes will be the placekicker this year. Feagles is still one of the game’s best punters.

by Ed Valentine on Apr 28, 2009 7:07 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, but at his age anything can happen

And Tynes is hardly reliable

haha, well come on, what is he 44?

He is one of my favorites on the team though

43 and a pro bowler

Yeah, he’s old for almost all positions – but not Punter. Feagles can play ‘til he’s 50, and we need him to. Not only is he one of the best precision punters to ever play the game, he is also a damn good placeholder for field goals. I can’t tell you how many snaps might have been botched last year alone.

Not to mention he’s a good team player too. I remember when Eli was drafted and wanted #10, Feagles number at the time. Eli paid for Feagles and his family to go to Disneyland in return for the #10 jersey.

I know you’re not saying anything negative about him… other than the age… but you have to understand, anytime Feagles gets brought up I make sure I throw in my two cents.

Come on, 50?

A lot can happen in the next seven years, not to mention he may not have the desire anymore.

But hopefully, he can break the Punters curse and get into Canton

Don't put it past him

I doubt he will play til he’s 50, but I can hope for it, right?

As much as I love Feagles and believe he is a sure HOF’er, he probably won’t be. For some reason, Canton isn’t so big on K/P. Rich Eisen summed it up best this weekend: “Kickers and Punters are people too!!”

Although, he does make a pretty strong argument for that Canton bid:
2007/08 Superbowl champion, 2-time pro bowler, and holds numerous records including most career punts, punting yards, punts inside the 20, and consecutive games played 336 (still active). To me, that’s a sure HOF’er.

by one-bar on Apr 28, 2009 5:43 PM EDT up reply actions

he should have way more than 2 pro bowls, too

People get hung up on hang time and total distance that they forget about accuracy and ability to pin teams in bad field position. Feagles is still great b/c he doesn’t rely on strength but on accuracy.

by cjmulrain on Apr 28, 2009 6:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Kickers and Punters are part of the game

for better or worse, so wouldnt it make sense to enshrine the best of them? I never understood that

Darius Hill is a player

not sure if he’ll make the team but 6’6, 234 is worth taking a flier on. he is very athletic, has pretty good hands, and was extremely productive. he was Nate Davis’ go-to-guy once Dante Love had the career-ending injury in Week 4.

New Info. on Wiley

A publication rated the top 30 undrafted players and Wiley came in #2 so here is the info.

2. Otis Wiley, FS Michigan State 6-2, 210
Put him at strong safety and he’ll be a disaster. Put him at free safety and he could be a Pro Bowl performer with a little bit of time. Great in run support and tough enough to be like an extra linebacker, he sniffs out running plays and always makes the stop. However, he’s not known for being a tough player and has had injury issues. With his size and his range, he could be all over the field making plays if he’s given the chance, but he’ll likely be used early on in nickel and dime packages. If he can stay healthy

by LT56 on Apr 27, 2009 10:44 PM EDT reply actions

O-Line

Our O-Line is great now but they are aging, and they can’t stay healthy for ever…there is nothing worse than when Boothe’s huge behind is on the field, he is so bad he looks like he’s never played football in is life is footwork is so bad…Beatty should be good to take over for him as the primary backup but i would have liked to seen them address that..other than that I say PERFECT draft

by TUSCALOOSLA GMEN on Apr 28, 2009 3:13 AM EDT reply actions

I share your concern

I hope the plan is to adress the Oline in next year’s draft. They’ve filled most of the other holes this year so they could concentrate on getting two quality prospects next year. I have no idea what next year’s draft looks like in terms of O line talent, but I’m sure Reese does.

by Tucker Fredrickson on Apr 28, 2009 8:53 AM EDT up reply actions

O-line

I’m not worried about it at this point. They will sign a veteran FA, maybe someone cut in June, for depth at guard/center. If Beatty becomes a player, they are fine.

by Ed Valentine on Apr 28, 2009 11:57 AM EDT up reply actions

O line will be address when it's all said and done

This team is built to win now and is sitting pretty good for the future. It looks like the Gmen are getting to a point that they just “reload” and not “rebuild”. This is still a very young team and Jerry has an eye for talent to keep them stocked.
