NFL Draft: Giants take William Beatty at 60
With their second selection of the second round the New York Giants took William Beatty, OT, Connecticut.
From Draft Countdown.
Finesse blocker who stands out in pass protection but still has a ways to go in the run department...Best fit might be in a zone blocking scheme...An impressive physical specimen for the position and most of his flaws can be corrected with further development and coaching...Underrated prospect who seemingly has all the tools to play left tackle in the NFL.
More on Beatty from Mocking the Draft.
I think most giants' fans will like this pick. Offensive line depth was a must, and Beatty is a guy they might be able to groom at left tackle.
Your thoughts?

i like it
maybe he can eventually play LT, and Diehl can go to LG, or he could replace the aging McKenzie.
Maybe the best pick of them all
Especially considering that I would have had no problem whatsoever if the Giants drafted any of these 3 guys in the first round…
Should be an interesting day 2 with essentially all the ""needs""" fulfilled already.
Would like to see some secondary depth and hopefully one of the top TE’s drop and the Giants see my sentiment there and grab one.
Ramses Barden would be nice too as could that Mitchell WR from Nevada, could be this years version of Jacobs.
Agreed
I think we would not have complained about Sintim or Beatty in Round 1. Word from Vacchiano was that Sintim was seriously considered at 29.

A most interesting draft
Reese got quality players at each of the three positions that the Giants had the most obvious needs. I think the run on receivers forced their hand in round one, and if they waited for round two the chance of getting someone who could help immediately would have been substantially reduced, especially since it looks like Boldin and Edwards are staying put (although the Browns did draft two WRs so maybe something is still going to happen there). Nicks is supposed to be the most pro ready of any of the receivers except perhaps for Crabtree (and even he is a so so route runner). I was hoping to get Maualuga in round two, but I’m wondering why he fell so far, and actually think Sintim is a good choice. I guessed the next pick would be Unger or Beatty, and voila. Beatty had been projected as high second rounder, I wonder why he slipped as far as he did. On paper though, it looks like a solid draft so far, and the team can be creative with the second day picks.

Sintim is a really nice pick
all 3 picks were great.
Nicks may end up being better than Crabtree at least right away. They are both the same height and body type. Nicks may be faster and since he played in a pro-offense he really knows how to run routes.
Nicks and Britt were the only 2 WR that made sense for the Giants in the end, cuz they don’t really want a project that has to be taught all the basics, like Maclin DHB and Harvin.
Britt is a bit bigger and may be a better route runner, but his character is obviously what made up the lesser prospect for the Giants. Nicks has not a thing to be concerned about on that.
Beatty is consiered a LT. I read Marc Ross scout of him and the long arms, strenght and althetic ability compared to any LT in this draft, its just that Beatty isn’t the greatest run blocker and only in the offesason did he gain 20 lbs.
But he’s got all the time in the world to learn how to use his strenght and get bigger (as if a 307lbs guy needs to get bigger.

Maualuga
The guy is a beast, but there is one question I have read in some places. Seems he is a two-down guy who was often not on the field in passing situations. You really want your MLB to play every down, and maybe that’s why he fell out of the first round.

I saw that too
also he while he is productive and makes big hits, he doesn’t always make the routine tackle and supposedly Pete Carrol couldn’t get through to him.
If the giants drafted him and I read this about him I would be bashing the pick.
All 3 guys JR got are high character guys. All 3 have star potential too in addition too.
Sintim had 11 sacks last year. Imagine him now with Kiwi, Osi, Tuck….Canty, Bernard, Cofield, Robbins….
The Tuck, Kiwi, Osi, Sintim could be the new 4 DE’s on one line………

Is it too much to ask for Shonn Greene and Chase Coffman in the 3rd round?
Hahaha. I pray to Reese.

WHy?
Greene can’t catch and Coffman is slow.
Why not Cedric Peerman/Andre Brown and Jared Cook/Shawn Nelson?

Bye Bye
Adam Koets.. the first casualty of the tremendous draft class of 2007
It's not easy being Giants fan in Philly.. but it sure is satisfying

My thoughts exactly
I think Koets will be hard presssed to keep his spot on the roster. I still wonder why Beatty lasted so long. Gerris Wilinson should be gone too. I suspect Dave Tollefson, who I thought had some potential may be a victim of the numbers game too. Now if we snap up Ramses Barden, Moss and Manningham will be pushed to perform in the preseason to keep their spots. Still, with the browns taking two receivers in the second round, I think they may still be planning to deal Edwards to somebody.

Unless its for next years pick
then I doubt its from the Giants. All the Giants picks seem like needs for the Giants, so I doubt they trade them to the Browns.
They probably are just planning for Edwards leaving at the end of this season, he only has one year left. Then again, if the Giants get him for a few of these late round picks, that’d be just nasty.

Beatty must have done some run blocking...
After all Brown did lead the league in rushing didn’t he?
