NFL Draft: Giants take Clint Sintim at 45

The New York Giants selected Clint Sintim, OLB, Virginia with their first pick of the second round, 45th overall.

From Mocking the Draft.

Sintim possesses prototypical outside linebacker size for the NFL. A good athlete, Sintim was a pass rush specialist for Virginia, finishing his career with 27 sacks. Has played with his hand down in 4-3 sets. Strong and physical, Sintim does a nice job beating blocks. A very aggressive player who always works hard on the field. Very competitive. Strong in pursuit. An experienced, four-year starter who has a good bit of intelligence.

At 6-foot-3, 254 pounds Sintim possesses the size and speed to --possibly -- become the playmaking outside linebacker the Giants have been looking for.

Love this pick

Makes up for the Maualuga """pass""", tho they probably never wanted him.

Sintim was a mid first round talent who probably fell cuz of his 40 time.

I like it in the long run, but I wonder if he’s gonna need a year to get acclimated with stand-up OLB position. From what I’ve read, he needs a lot of work on his pass coverage. The Giants will probably give him the Kiwanuka, so I expect him to contribute in much the same way Kiwi did during his only year at LB.

If he's suppose to be AP's replacement and he has coverage problems

I hope to hell they don’t have AP trying to help him correct them!!! I like Pierce, but I can’t stand to see him take another stupid PI call that costs us dearly,
if not the game!!!

Sintim is not AP's replacement

I don’t know why you would think that, but Jon Goff is AP’s replacement. Sintim is going to battle it out for the SOLB position.

AP won’t have to go into coverage now, cuz the giants got Michael Boley for that.

by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 10:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought and others here said they wanted us to get a LB specifically for that purpose

AP’s on the downside of his career, the guys we’ve drafted and hoped they’d be his replacement haven’t panned out as well as you’d liked due to injures, etc…

AP won’t have to go into coverage? The other teams OC will dictate whether he needs to be in coverage. If I were their OC and I see a weakness in a player I’m gonna try to exploit it

I don’t remember anyone talking about Boley playing MLB in the future. Where the Sintim played in college and where NYG plans on using him, are two TOTALLY different things.

I’m not giving you grief here but someone else sure will, SOLB is a 3-4 term. We use a 4-3 with a WLB-MLB-SLB (check w/ G57 on this one!! :-)

OK

so take out the O, and then Sintim is their SLB.

Boley was brought in to play in coverage at the WLB.

Sintim is for rushing the passer and stopping the run. Plus, Marc Ross has said that he has no idea what the knock is on Sintim, he’s about as solid and versatile as it can get. I like Sintim as much as Brian Cushing.

Plus, The Giants drafted 2 !!! LB’s last year. Keihl played a lot and will get better, Jonathon Goff is their MLB and AP’s replacenment, so they don’t need to draft one.

Since posting, I watched the video of Ross talking about Sintim

and he said “he’s played all over the place” meaning a bunch of different positions, BUT it did not sound like MLB is in his future w/ NYG. When Ross said he could even see him lining up at DE at times, that put that idea to rest.

I realize the Keihl and Goff are the presumed heir-apparents to AP but
what if they’re both busts or injury prone??

I could’ve sworn we’ve had this conversation in here???

I didn't

have this conversation with you, nor did I ever suggest that Sintim is a MLB replacement.

If anyone would say that Sintim is a future MLB, Id disagree, cuz I do NOT think he’s a MLB. Where you think I said that I have no idea……

I said he plays all over the place, meaning coverage, 3-4 OLB, DE, 4-3 OLB, all over the place, even maybe som MLB at Virginia cuz they played the 3-4 (Oh, sorry for terminology police…ILB), so all over.

And Goff and Keihl could be injury prone or busts, just like Sintim, Rey Maualuga, Lauranitis or Aaron Curry, everyone could bust or be injury prone.

It's a beautiful day and I'm goin outside

but wanted to get back to you first. I didn’t mean you and I have had a conversation, I meant the subject of replacing AP and the uncertainty about the guys we have to replace him, in general. What you said is, what I said about Sintim playing all over the place and I found that NYG has NO intention of using him at MLB, I misinterpreted the purpose of the pick.

Yes, no ones a sure bet in the NFL, but after the time they’ve spent with the team, I thought I wasn’t the only one who would have liked another possible option for replacing AP. When we talked about needing another LB, I didn’t think we wanted ANOTHER pass rusher. I just I was thinking too much. Sorry

Get outside and enjoy the day too!!!

Undecided on him right now.

I thought he would be a Giant well before today. Was pretty sure Reese and the staff liked the kid. Not sure I do, though. Was never overly impressed with him. But, in Reese we trust!
