Rey Maualuga
and Everrette Brown are STILL on the board….
WHen exactly to the giants start trading up??
They already got Nicks, and I love the pick even more now that Maualuga is still dropping, but
I can't believe they haven't traded up yet
and as much as I love Rey, I’ve gotta wonder if there’s something about him that the media doesn’t know/isn’t reporting. It makes no sense that he’s fallen this far otherwise.
Tackling
no one reported it until McShay just said it. He has tackling issues…
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions
Yea...
but playing MLB and only 76 or so tackles…..
I know, I have no idea why he would say that, and that its so bad to drop him to round 2 is a bit baffling, there must be something else.
Oh well, the Patriots Dolphins and Bills all pick before the Giants, again, and all may need Maualuga..so who knows. Id like to see a trade up here tho…
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 7:55 PM EDT up reply actions
what would they give up for him though?
Maybe Manningham, a 3rd, and a 5th? Now that we have Nicks I don’t think that would bother me
Who knows
I could care less if they do get him, but 3rd and 5th plus Manningham for Edwards would be fine with me. I like our 2 2nd rounders too so id like to keep them.
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions
I think that may be dead.
Browns seemed to make deal with everyone but the giants. I think they made fools of the Jets.
I would have had more confidence
if they had taken Crabtree or another receiver. Who would they throw to?
so basically
Giants, Colts, Titans, Steelers, Eagles (ugh, but you’ve gotta give it to them)
Everyone Else
Raiders, Bengals, Redskins, Lions
yea, good call
though to be fair, they haven’t had a ton of draft success the past few years, though I think that’s mostly b/c their organizational philosophy has shifted from the draft to smart free agent signings
a-holes
good, rey must have some character stuff, so its good the Bengals get Andre Smith and rey….They can both fail there.
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions
Maybe
Id love to see Jared Cook or Shawn Nelson………..

Rey gone at 38
Offensive line w/45? I think Beatty is still on the board, unless I missed him getting picked.
No he's still there
Id be surprised, yet happy…

btw, I love Reese
but what the hell is he planning on doing with all these extra picks? Pretty soon they’re gonna be completely useless, but we’re gonna have a bangin practice squad.
Yea
the Seahawks just traded their round 2 this year to the Broncos for a round 1 next year…Why can the Giants do this??/
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Other teams traded up with their 1st rounder plus a late,
6th rounder, so maybe the Gints are planning this way???
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions
Jacobs was a 4th rounder, Tuck a 3rd rounder, Bradshaw a 7th rounder, Smith a 2nd Rounder
I wouldn’t call these guys practice squad players.
it's not the late round picks
it’s the amount of late round picks. There’s absolutely no way 10 rookies are making the Giants next year, so what’s the point of holding onto all of them?
Because it's a crapshoot & nobody wants to trade
and some of these guys are going to suck so the more picks you have the better chance you have of having a good draft. What if Nicks sucks but they get some stud sleeper WR with the extra 3rd round pick, hey I want Edwards too but if Clevland is not willing to give him up there not much they can do
A name just mentioned
that we haven’t mentioned here. How about Pat White as a third string qb and a blue version of the Wildcat? I know, it’s a stretch.
depends when
I’d take him later in the draft. But, again, will Gilbride ever be creative enough to use the wildcat? I doubt it.
has that whole "running QB" thing died yet?
i mean Michael Vick, Vince Young… how many more failures does it take?
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Apr 25, 2009 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions
well
the wildcat has a chance to stick around. I could see a lot of teams using those guys as backups who get 3-5 snaps a game in the wildcat.
agreed
a limited basis (3-5 snaps like you say) is different. i think that can work.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Apr 25, 2009 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions
Vick wasn’t a failure on the field as a running QB, he’s an idiot off of it. Young is a nutcase. It’s not the skills, its the person. I think a running QB could be successful in the right system.
+1
also, McNabb was a running QB and was very successful. He’s one of the few who’s transitioned into a pocket passer successfully, but he was awesome when he could run and throw. Also, Cunningham was awesome back in the day.
Super Bowl rings
for Vick, Cunningham, Garcia, combined?
give me a dropback guy any day of the week.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Apr 25, 2009 8:19 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, that was my thought.
He could also play WR if needed…

imploded too. Varitek’s taking some strong roids with his new contract.
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions
i will say that if
Fatty McFatass (Oritz) can’t get going, then the Sox won’t be able to keep this up. they only really have three consistent hitters on that team (Bay, Pedroia, Youk).
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Apr 25, 2009 8:13 PM EDT reply actions
Sometimes that's all it takes.
Plus Varitek may end up the real MVP this year, but the roids should wear off soon.
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions
Varitek
hits 15 homers a year and 14 come against the Yankees.

Why not Everette Brown. He could play some OLB too

Very funny moment in the Yankee game
Jeter hit a foul ball, and a Red Sox fan yelled out “Hey Jeter in your new stadium thats a homer!” McCarver and Buck even mentioned it on air

this Sintim pick
tells me that Rey Ma must have had some serious red flags.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Apr 25, 2009 8:32 PM EDT reply actions
Rey Ma is an MLB in a 4-3
that might be why the Giants didn’t pick him, I know Pierce is slow but I think they think Blackburn can replace him so they wanted an OLB.
Well Pierce at least has 1
year left, plus Jon Goff is his replacement, so no worries about Blackburn.

Is Sintim
big enough to play the SAM position?
Cause that’s where we need the most help.
Sintim is HUGE
he was a 3-4 OLB in college…
he’s a very good pass rusher….
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions
uh-oh...
Sintim’s ESPN scouting report:
“is going to have some problems matching up with quicker RBs and TEs in the NFL. Lacks ideal awareness in coverage and appears lost in zone at times.”
sound like anybody you know?
good thing i usually ignore whatever ESPN says.

compares Sintim to Julian Peterson. They say he has Top 20 talent so……
Reese did a good job…..
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 8:37 PM EDT up reply actions
According to Mike Mayock
he stinks in coverage but can rush, maybe the Giants turn him into a D-End in a 4-3.
I think this was a value pick
A few months before the draft Sintim was projected as a first rounder, I have a feeling the Giants had him high and picked up because they thought he was a first round talent
they need to learn how to play the first half of the season
they always finish strong but seem to start like 1-7, 2-6 every year. it’s weird.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Apr 25, 2009 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions
Yea cuz when they Win the SB
they finished weak. Real, real weak. Pretty wierds too.
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions
Reggie who????
If this team can stay healthy, they can be really nice. Should make the playoffs this year.
I fear that the Giants will cause the downfall of the NFL as we know it next year
when they literally kill a QB with their pass rush…I think it’s inevitable
Sintim is an OLB
kinda like when they moved Kiwi to OLB, but Sintim is more of an OLB, cuz he played OLB.
He can play SAM. He just rushed the passer a lot in college, not a bad thing.
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions
SIntim played for Al Groh
Who is part of the Parcells coaching tree so I’m happy. Chris Canty also played for Al Groh.
I think Al Davis is just mocking the NFL at this point
like “hey, I’ve already got a bunch of rings. I’m really old. I’m just gonna see how long they let me keep making these really wacky decisions before they actually force me to sell the team.”
give the guy credit
he entertains us.

Very curious
You beat me to this one. Makes me think something might still be up w/Edwards.
by Ed Valentine on Apr 25, 2009 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions
i doubt it
and i really like Eli, Big Ben, and Rivers. but Elway (5 Super Bowl appearances), Marino (broke just about every passing record in his career) and Kelly (4 Super Bowl appearances) is tough company.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Apr 25, 2009 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions
amazingly
the ‘04 class already has won more SB’s than the ‘83 class. Conversely, I don’t think it even compares on a talent level – Elway and Marino are head and shoulders better than any of the 3 from ’04
This is tough
For the stats up the arse, you go with the class of ‘83, but for the rings, you go with the class of ’04 and it’s all about the chamionships.
"all about the championships"
while I somewhat agree with this, Marino never had a defense like the Giants or Steelers have. You put him with this Giants team and it wins 4 or 5 big ones.
i usually agree with that
but not here. Marino and Elway – we’re talking about three of the top five quarterbacks of all-time. does anyone really think Eli, Ben or Rivers will fall into that category?
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Apr 25, 2009 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions
two of the five that is
my math skills ain’t so good.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Apr 25, 2009 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions
I see what you're saying, now
Elway has a ring, Marino has the records, who’s the best QB? And for sticks and giggles, let’s throw Brett in there. This is a debate I’m always having with a coworker.
i judge QBs on if i had to win one game
and if i had a pick of Elway/Marino, i’d take Elway. Marino has the records but Elway has the moments. it’s the same reason why I’d take Brady over Manning (disclaimer: just my personal opinion).
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Apr 25, 2009 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

eh...
the eagles never really scare me.
They are so inconsistent that even with McCoy on the team it doesn’t really matter. Plus, I don’t know why they are so adamant about replacing Westbrook rather than get a power guy to complement him.
by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 9:11 PM EDT up reply actions
There too inconsistant on O
Just because Maclin is a first rounder does not mean he’ll be great, they’ll be tough overall as a team just because they always are but your right they don’t scare me you just know they be a tough game

another trade
A whole lot of trades, but the giants are not one of them.
Maybe Reese is just wating to cop the whole 3rd round where he does all the damage.
Davis
Snyder and Jones do dumb stuff, but at least there’s some resemblance of them trying to make the team better.
Davis is just off the radar, this years draft is just absurd. DHB at #7 and a guy who would probably be a UFA in round 2????
i think Beatty would be a steal here

THese rankings mean crap.
When Bellicheck takes this Vollmer guy in round 2 and he is rated by many the 15th or so best OT, then the rankings don’t mean shit.
Bellicheck knows what he’s doing. I bet that Vollmer is starting at some position for the Pats in the next 2 years, maybe this season.
I agree
I just wanted to gauge the players we picked against their peers.
Jerry Rice probably wasn’t even ranked in the top 20 for WRs when he was drafted. Yet Bill Walsh saw something and the rest is history….
OK
I wasn’t trying to argue with you at all.
Each team has different rankings so these overall rankings don’t mean much is all.

I am pleased with what Reese did. We shall see how it all plays out, but he made up for leavibf Rey out the at 29 I think.

I think Reese got quality players at each of the ‘need’ areas for the Giants. Day 2 should be interesting. Reese always seems to find a gem or two in the mid- to late rounds.
