NFL Draft: Giants take Hakeem Nicks
Hakeem Nicks!
The guy we have speculated on for quite a while. I think this is the guy Jerry Reese had targeted all along. I think they love the size, the hands and routes he runs.
Your thoughts?

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Hooray!
I think this is a tremendous pick. Size, hands and NFL ready. He will make lots of catches for Eli.
He is from the ACC
Not exactly a football powerhouse. I am very distrustful of this one.
And since when
do you know more football than Jerry Reese — who helped us build a perennial powerhouse?

Did I say know mroe than Reese?
Please refrain from putting words in my mouth Ed, thanks a lot.
Didn't mean to
You’re just extremely vociferous in your opposition to this pick, and I’m not sure why. It’s been the obvious move for a while now, and he is the best player to fill the team’s biggest current need.

I still insist LB is more important
and with the talent available they should have gone that way. However, I am a liuttle more at peace with it right now (being right ripped and all) than I was at 6:30 or so when this went doen. We shall see. GO GIANTS!
who cares if UNC is a powerhouse?
USC is, and their players haven’t exactly translated very well to the NFL:
Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, Dwayne Jarrett, Mike Williams, Winston Justice, etc.
at least the Giants got a keeper in Steve Smith.

Size?
Isnt he barely six feet? I cant believe they passed on Maualuga considering how slow Pierce is getting, we couldve gotten a similar player to Hicks in the 2nd round
Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.
He's 6"1....
not small…..
You don’t boo this pick. Reese knows what 28 other GM’s obviously know, Maualuga has some issues…..
If Nicks was the Giants pick, and Maualuga was already gone, I think he is widely praised….
But still, Maualuga would have been great….

Interesting stuff
A very good linebacker is going to fall to the Giants in the 2nd round.

Mauluaga, Stintim, and Laurinaitis are all still available, FYI.

True....
And I think Nicks being the Giants man at WR probably would have been gone to the Titans cuz they seemed to really like him too.
Id be happy with either of those 3, but if Rey goes to the Steelers…..Some things just aren’t fair (like Derrick Rose to teh Bulls….)

I would've preferred Maualuga
as I had him as a top-15 talent.
He was clearly the BPA, IMHO. But I can live with the Nicks pick as it addresses an area of clear need and he seems the most ready of all the WRs to step in and contribute in the NFL right away.
Fundamentals vs. speed...
I love this pick to this point. He may not be big, but he has the fundamentals to succeed in the NFL. Whether it’s good hands or precision route running, at least we didn’t trade up for raw talents and is not so polished as Nicks may be!
I’ve always thought to take the more polished player vs. than raw talent first. Then take a chance later if they shall fall!
and you
don’t need to be BIG to be a great WR. Burress was great cuz of his size in theory BTW, the Giants rarely used his size.
Nicks can catch, people said him and Crabtree have similar hands…..

Get open, catch the ball
That is what Nicks does.

I think it's a great pick
The guy has crazy glue for hands and he’s NFL ready now. I think he may get more field time than Manningham.
I copped out and went with unsure
I think Nicks could be a good player, but I think Maualuga and Braylon Edwards will/are both better players. So it’s not that I hate the move, I just would have preferred the Giants went a different direction. Oh, well, hopefully it works out.
Maualuga had some problems with tackling
at least that’s what McShay said. So that is a big No No

Interesting
It will be interesting to see how this works out over Kenny Britt, who was picked next. Comparable players, comparable conferences, comparable teams. And whoever dissed the ACC players, where did #56 play? Not to compare but there are players there.
that was a looooooong time ago
You can’t even compare the ACC today to the ACC of a decade ago, let alone 3 decades ago
Mediocre pick
a better version of Smith. Sintim would be another bad pick.
