Around SBN: NFL Roundtable: Which Draft Pick Is Most Likely To Bust?

NFL Draft: Round 1 Open Thread

Time for some draft picks! Use this as your Open Thread to discuss the Round 1 selections. We know Matt Stafford is going to Detroit. Right move for the Lions?

Like you guys, I'm on pins and needles waiting to see what Giants' General Manager Jerry Reese decides to do. By the way, each team gets 10 minutes per pick in the first round. If everybody takes that long, and the Giants stay at 29, it will be almost 9 p.m. Eastern time before the Giants make a selection. Ugh!!

I don't understand why Mangina

would stick it to the Giants, yet trade back and let the Jets get Sanchez…..

by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 6:18 PM EDT reply actions

He's not it just seems like it

because he made deals with the Jets and Eagles. Those teams were just desperate to move up. Remember the Giants want a player from Clevland so until the G-Men are on the clock we won’t know what he’s thinking & the one player, DHB, the Giants would have moved up for was gone by the time they could trade for him. The Eagles drafted Freddie Mitchell in the first round and he sucked lets not get all worked up, only teams like the Jets and Eagles win Super Bowls in April.

Browns

I love o-line men but a center, Mangini just does these things to make it seem like he’s smart but If I were a Browns fan I would not be comfortable with this man running my franchise

by Landeta on Apr 25, 2009 6:27 PM EDT reply actions

I agree with that.

The first thing Mangina does is come in and paint over a mural of all the franchise’s heros – wtf?

Just got back

from my first Mets game at Citi Field (beautiful, I don’t care what the critics say).

Anyway, say what you want about the Jets, but Mark Sanchez just hit the jackpot – good looking kid of hispanic origin now has a fanbase in the two biggest markets in the country. If he doesn’t become an advertisers dream, I don’t know anything.

I let out a happy cheer when I heard the Raiders took Heyward-Bey – I did NOT want him, and Al Davis saved us from the opportunity to take the biggest bust in the draft

by cjmulrain on Apr 25, 2009 6:28 PM EDT reply actions

the Jets are a disaster

though i feel bad for them because they have to keep up with the big brother in the city. laying all their hopes on a QB that started all of 16 games and had 4 and 5-star talent around him at every position on a college football powerhouse sounds like a pretty smart move though.

by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Apr 25, 2009 6:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I'll be honest

I like Sanchez. I think he’s gonna be better than Sanford, and not just b/c he’s not gonna play for the Lions.

by cjmulrain on Apr 25, 2009 6:30 PM EDT up reply actions

this is one of the worst QB drafts ever

Stafford is like the semi-decent looking chick at the dive bar. compared to everything else, he looks pretty good, but in a normal year he’d probably be the 3rd or 4th quarterback taken.

by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Apr 25, 2009 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree with that

but I legit like Sanchez. I think he’s gonna be pretty good – not great, but pretty good.

by cjmulrain on Apr 25, 2009 6:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree with you again

Sanchez was better than Stadford. Stadford made bad decisions in big games with more offesive talent than did Sanchez. I like Sanchez too, it’ll be tough to root against him he’s a nice guy with some talent

by Landeta on Apr 25, 2009 6:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Massaquoi and Moreno are nice, but look at SC’s line and four-deep at RB. it’s ridiculous how stacked they were.

to lose the Super Bowl 3-0 next year?

by cjmulrain on Apr 25, 2009 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d like the Giants to trade up to Pitts spot and take Rey with the Saint’s 2nd and a 6th

Ten years from now

Who be the WR everyone will be talking about?
DHB
Crabtree
Maclin
Harvin
Nicks
Britt

by John W on Apr 25, 2009 7:22 PM EDT reply actions

After today, DHB just based on the Raiders stupidity

by scotty2129 on Apr 25, 2009 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions

yea

I mean, people still talk about Ryan Leaf.

by cjmulrain on Apr 25, 2009 7:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Well I know its

NOT DHB or Maclin…….I’ll pencil in Maclin (and pretty much in stone for DHB….)

Nicks will be good, great maybe.

by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions

no matter what happens, we will be talking about Nicks

either for how good he turned out or what a freaking bust he ended up being.

by losangelesmets on Apr 25, 2009 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Or maybe that Rey Maualuga is

destroying mere mortals as the MLB of the Steelers defense…..

by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Crabtree is the best of the bunch, i think nicks is 2nd best

by illlwill on Apr 25, 2009 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions

then again i go to unc so im probly biased

by illlwill on Apr 25, 2009 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions

A Scout on Nicks.....

“Nicks gained 14 pounds between the combine and his pro day and that is reason for concern. However, we still believe he has the ability to make an immediate contribution. He doesn’t have great initial quickness, but he shows good footwork getting in and out of his breaks, and he isn’t going to get pushed around by corners. Nicks also flashes fly-trap hands and the ability to make spectacular catches. His catch during the Meineke Car Care Bowl was one of the year’s most impressive”

Lets see what he can do!

by Major on Apr 25, 2009 7:24 PM EDT reply actions

And he had dropped

all that weight as of a week ago. It’s not an issue. If he can get open and catch the ball we will love the guy.

by Ed Valentine on Apr 25, 2009 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions

yes sir

of course we will its why i stole him form you in the draft lol i love nicks

WR 2008 vs 2009

WR taken in the 1st round:
2008=0
2009=6

by John W on Apr 25, 2009 7:28 PM EDT reply actions

I thought DeSean Jackson

was taken in the 1st last year, no?

by cjmulrain on Apr 25, 2009 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Nope, 2nd. Skins also took a WR in the 2nd I think.

by XLII on Apr 25, 2009 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions

LOL

I would have loved watching them screw it up…..

But I’ll settle for the Raiders and Bengals….

Watch Nicks Bowl game highlights

Hey guys, I wanted big Rey too but if you want to feel good about the Nicks pick watch highlights of the Meineke car Care Bowl. I didn’t know much about him till I saw him Kill RU then I watched his Bowl game and he was unbelievable, made one sick catch between his legs.

by Landeta on Apr 25, 2009 7:29 PM EDT reply actions

NE might get him in a couple picks… Laurinitis would be nice for the Giants too

by scotty2129 on Apr 25, 2009 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Delmas

another guy I haven’t heard of. Though to be fair, I really haven’t followed the secondary guys at all this year since I knew the Giants wouldn’t be looking to go that way. When was the last time we could say that?

1ST ROUND BREAKDOWN

QB – 3
O/L – 6
LB – 4
WR – 6
DT/DE – 7
CB – 2
RB – 3
TE – 1

by John W on Apr 25, 2009 7:36 PM EDT reply actions

Also

the Lions are building a team the exact opposite way that I would – QB, TE, DB to add to a RB and a WR. Basically filling the skill positions and forgetting about the core – I expect it to fail. Poor Lions fans…

by cjmulrain on Apr 25, 2009 7:38 PM EDT reply actions

ha ha

Good point, lets not bring in any O or D line men and draft a TE.

I wonder how much Matthews will sell his number to Nicks?

by John W on Apr 25, 2009 7:49 PM EDT reply actions

him falling

out of the first round is the shock if the draft so far.. in september he was in the running for number one over all. Good draft so far for the Bungles

It's not easy being Giants fan in Philly.. but it sure is satisfying

http://novafacts.blogspot.com

by Hoyadestroya85 on Apr 25, 2009 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions

There were reasons he fell tho.

Really not that fast, not that great a tackler, more of a guy who looks for the big hit. That said, the Bungles got 2 of the most talented players in the draft, at one point THE Top 2 talents in this draft.

BUt there were reasons why they “fell” to where they were.

Bungles may have bungld the draft again,

by FreeBradshaw on Apr 25, 2009 11:07 PM EDT up reply actions

HAHAHA!

This is so great, I love being able to write on this wall right now. The Giants first off let me say are going to get destroyed by the EAGLES! The Giants did a HORRIBLE job in this years draft and I LOVED every minute of it! Right from the start when we stole Maclin by moving up followed by the fact that the pick you guys traded Shockey for you got Clint Simtim HAHAHAHAHA! PRICELESS! I hope you guys are all ready for a beating this year because the Giants don’t stand a chance! Eli Manning will be his normal horrible self, Hackeem Nicks will do next to nothing for you, and better yet the couple def threats you do have don’t stand a chance against the Birds O-line. Jacobs will be the only productive player you have and as any real football fan can tell you a one dimensional team will NEVER be effective. Hey by the way I’m a little behind on last years playoff results for the Giants, who did they lose to and what was the score? HA! Be prepared for a very similar season!

by Football_Nut on Apr 26, 2009 1:37 AM EDT reply actions

Yes

That loss to the eagles did give us a little more time to think about the draft but it also gave the fellas some extra time to shine up their Superbowl rings from the year before. You know how that goes. Oh wait, no you don’t.

With the eagles, you have a very good back (injury prone), a prima dona 2nd year receiver (sophomore jinx), and a qb (I do like McNabb) that has to worry about his coach stabbing him in the back again. Yeah, that sounds like the recipe for your first Superbowl.

You chose the right name for yourself. You have to be a “Nut” to believe that bullshit you posted. Good luck on the rest of the draft and the season.

Hindsight Bitach!!

All these weapons, you think the Iggles are gonna stop all these guys?

BTW, McCoy and Macho Harris are nice picks…..
