Wednesday Walk Around the NFL: 4.22.09

Wednesday_walk_468_medium

Good Morning Giants fans, the draft is just a few days away, let's take a look at some of the stories making news around the NFL:

There are two "Great Moments in Giants Stadium" features left, tomorrow will be a sort of medley, then next week my personal "Great Moment", so make sure you check in for those.

Anquan Boldin

I think he has too high a price. A 1st and 3rd round draft pick and then his contract is going to have to be renegotiated. And he wants the same kind of contract that Larry Fitzgerald has. With Eli’s contract still up in the air I don’t the Giants are going to have the cap room to give him the kind of money he wants even if they wanted to. And then there’s the issue of whether or not he fits into the Giants offense.

From what I heard

only Baltimore is willing to give up a 1st rounder for him. They don’t want to get rid of the 3rd rounder, but they are the only ones willing to give up a first.

I kinda don’t want Boldin anyway. Steve Smith is younger and getting better, and is the same type of player. Boldin has nice stats, but the Giants don’t throw that much.

In fact, I don’t want Edwards either…..

Ah, FB, but do you want

the # 2 pick? The idea of grabbing it excites me, but I’m not convinced fully it’s the right thing to do. It’s a staggeringly high pick for a team as good as the Giants. I’m not even sure they have the buck sso high a pick would command. I love the idea that it’s at least a possibility.

Wha???
  1. overall? LIke Spags giving back or SOm…….

If the Giants had the #2 Id grab Aaron Curry without blinking. The Lions probably are getting Stafford (which is the right pick.

I don’t think its the right thing to do, and yea they don’t have the parts to give up (unless they part with Kiwi????).

Now I know we all like Kiwi, and the obvious choice would probably be Crabtree (or maybe even one of the LT’s) But they probably would have to throw in Kiwi (unless they give up #29 and both 2nd rounders…That may get it done…..)

BUt Aaron Curry would make the Giants D downright filthy, even if they lost Kiwi. Curry is good in coverage too

Tho Curry would be great

I’d suspect the pick would be Crabtree.

He is NOT as slow as people would expect, and his long arms and bulk make up for his actual height being less than what was originally thought.

Plus, Crabtree right now would have one of the strongest set of hands in the league.

Crabtree isn’t compared to Fitzgerald for nothing. Id love to have him, much more so than Braylon Edwards. Crab would cost more, but I think he has 5x the potential that Edwards has.

with the 2nd pick

would you go for Crabtree? Curry? Jason Smith? That’s a very interesting debate I will think on…. maybe Spags will give us the “friendly” discount. haha.

Smith would be my first choice;

Curry #2. I,m a D guy, too, but we’ve already shored up the D a lot and premier OLTs are harder to come by than premier LBs. I’d welcome either choice with open arms.

+1 BG

I suspect the Giants don’t want to have to pay a pick that high on the list though. And this draft has plenty of good talent available throughout the first two rounds. I think we get better bang for the buck by staying where we are or not trading up into the top 10. Still a real franchise OLT to back up the current line while developing into a starter would really solidify the franchise for several years. The D-line already seems to be set for 3-5 years, we just need to start grooming some younger Oline players now.
