Open thread for the day
Here is a quick Open Thread for the day with some links to what the other New York bloggers here at SBN are writing about.
- At Amazin' Avenue, New York Mets' fans are dissecting Johan Santana's brilliance in Saturday's 1-0 victory over Milwaukee.
- Gang Green Nation has video of the team's pre-draft presser.
- Posting and Toasting is running daily threads about the NBA Playoffs. That, of course, is since the New York Knicks aren't in them.
- At Blueshirt Banter, where our man 'jrs' is writing about the New York Rangers, he does have playoffs to talk about.
- I went to the new Yankee Stadium for the first time Saturday. Since I know you can never get enough of me, you can find my thoughts on the new Stadium at Pinstripe Alley. I think you will recognize the style.

I don't know if its possible
but the idea Rangers playing the Devils in round 2 has given me a semi. Id love to knock the Devils out of the playoffs again.

yeah thatd be a great series
but i’d prefer to see the devils win and continue their streak as the dominant hockey team in the ny metropolitan region.

I'd love to see it happen but it's not possible.
The NHL playoffs reseed the teams after each round. So, let’s say the Rangers somehow pull it off (which I think they will) they will have to play the #1 seed (Boston) unless #1 losses to #8 Montreal). If the #8 somehow pulls off an upset against Boston they will automatically play the best remaining team – #3 (NJ) since #1 & #2 seeds both lost. The only way the Rangers play the Devils (and I’d love to see this) would be in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Yea I forgot at the time
of the reseading thing.
Id still want to play the Devils eventually, cuz it would mean in the conference finals.
The Bruins will be tough tho. But the Rangers played them tough all year so it will be interesting. They seemed to play better against the Bruins than they did against the Caps during the season.

No love
for the Islanders blog?
Also, rough day for your first trip to the new park. And how’d your son end up an Indians fan? Does he like the Browns too?

Also
want to use this moment to give a shout out to my high school, St. Mary’s in Manhasset. Danny Green just won the NCAA Basketball Championship and has an outside chance of being drafted and making an NBA team, and Matt Gilroy just won the NCAA Hockey Championship and signed a big deal with the Rangers. I played pick up ball against Danny in gym a few times my senior year (he was a freshman) but other than that I didn’t know him. Matt, on the other hand, is only a year younger than me and was on my bus. I used to hang out with his older brother a lot. Pretty crazy that he’s gonna be in the NHL now.

Cool story. Was it pretty obvious Matt was going places, back then?
or was he just your friend’s kid brother?

he was good
he played varsity from the time he was a freshman (much to the chagrin of a few of my friends who were good players in their own right but had to pay their dues on JV), but he was never the best player on the team while I was still in school. St. Mary’s is a powerhouse though, they had won 7 State titles in 8 years when I was there, and the only one they “lost” was forfeited b/c they had an ineligible player, and I’m pretty sure they’ve continued to win year in year out since I graduated 7 years ago.

CJ, I'm not gonna give you a hard time but...
I wouldn’t let these guys know that it took you 8 years to get out of high school.
They’re a pretty cruel bunch in here when they want to be.
TRUST ME on this one!!!!!

lol
yea, that was awkwardly phrased. Let me re-phrase: they won 7 out of 8 championships, and I was there for 4 of them.
