Wednesday Walk Around the NFL: 4.15.09
So the schedule is out, the BBV draft is halfway thru the first round, and the "Braylon Edwards to the Giants" buzz is everywhere. In the meantime, here are some of the other stories making headlines around the NFL:
- The LA Times looks at some of the quirks of the 2009 NFL Schedule.
- From The Wall Street Journal, Comcast and the NFL still can't come to an agreement over viewer access.
- Tom Curran at NBC Sports takes a pessimistic look at Byron Leftwich joining the Bucs.
- The Bleacher Report says Donovan McNabb is The Disrespected Quarterback.
- CBS Sportsline's Pete Prisco has the 10 games to watch this season. He really goes out on a limb here, picking the Giants game in Dallas, and the Giants home game against Philly. Pete also reported that the sun will rise tomorrow, and that a Yankee fan will complain about something on Pinstripe Alley.
- I loveit when Ed sends me to Hawaii for stories. Today, from the Honolulu Advertiser, Randy Covitz says teams are looking at college players with the Wildcat offense in mind.
Mahalo everyone! I'm out, and don't forget, the NHL Playoffs start tonight!
To quote Steve Somers from WFAN: Rangers in Seven.

Edwards....
Eli just talked openly on Sportscenter a few minutes ago about Edwards and how he is confident that Reese is pursuing him. It was noted in the report that Eli and Edwards have the same agent. ESPN seems to think the Giants will end up with him.
I, for one, would welcome him here.

Sports Center is reporting that Ken Whisenhunt has just announced that theCardinals will consider trade offers for Boldin.

Eh,
Boldin, Edwards.
I still don’t want to give up the draft for either. Yea, but have elite potential, but Edwards only had one year. Boldin will cost a lot more than what the Cowgirls gave up, plus he wants a contract too.
The Giants have proven that building through the draft and signed FA’s that aren’t really stars, but will fit in is the best way to go. Even Plax was noting more than talent, he really didn’t prove much in Pittsburgh.
The Giants might not have many needs now, but depth should never be overlooked. The Giants had a bunch of injuries in 07, but cuz of that draft class they were able to keep winning.
I’d love to have either WR, but the Giants shouldn’t stray away from what they’ve done well and that’s draft players. I know not all the picks this year are gonna make the team, but Id rather those guys that make the team be from the first half of the draft than the 2nd half.

10 picks
there’s no way 10 picks are making this team. I’d say there’s no way that more than 6 picks are making the team, and even that might be stretching it. They can and should move those extra picks to get a true impact player. Depth is worthless if the guys are on the practice squad and you’re one impact piece short of a championship.

"...can and should...,"
and will, I’m sure.

Very good point....
Not to mention that both of these receivers have already proven they can play in the NFL. Trading some of our picks for one or both of these guys is a no brainer to me. Then, with the picks left we can try to get linebackers, offensive linemen or even (gasp!) a kicker.
