Giants expected to land Braylon Edwards
Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports, citing sources with knowledge of the negotiations, says that Braylon Edwards will be a New York Giant by Draft Day.
The Browns are asking for Steve Smith, and a 2nd and 5th round pick. The Giants have countered with Domenik Hixon and the same picks. I think either of those is a lot to pay, and it still leaves them with a hole at WR, albeit a smaller one.
Kudos to BigBl42 for finding this.

oh yes yes..
yes yes yes.. I just kissed my dog… i pray this is true

however
I don’t want to loose hixon, I know we will not give Smith away, but Hixon as been as important as the others, that is my opinion. I guess they will give Mannigham an oportunity if this becomes true
I would gladly trade Hixon and some picks for Edwards.
But then I hope at some point on draft day, we consider a WR with one of our later picks.

YES!!!!!!!!!!
I hope this isn’t just a rumor and has truth behind it. I also hope we don’t get rid of Smith, as he is the #2 guy we can’t let go.
As far as Manningham goes, I hope the GMen don’t trade him either. He was only a rookie last year and reconnected with Braylon could really help the kid come along. I watched a lot of his college games (being the Michigan fan that I am) and when the Giants called his name last year I knew they had found themselves a real playmaker, in the 3rd round!! He’s a natural at making the big play.
If we have to let go of anyone it would have to be Hixon (because the Browns probably don’t want Moss). I like Hixon and I know he helps out in many ways, but he’s not a true #1 and probably never will be.
Just imagine… Edwards and Smith with Manningham in the slot and Bossman at TE… Oh man, I’m having an anxiety attack.
ABSOLUTELY, RICH!!!!
If Micah’s involved in the trade, sure we get Edwards but…
WHAT THE HELL are we gonna do with Cleveland’s first 4 picks
on top of the 10 we already have????
Try and REPLACE HIM??? Don’t make me laugh!!!!!
If we keep our 1st round pick....
….then I don’t have a problem giving up Hixon. I’d much rather keep Steve Smith and keep him in Toomer-like role. Hixon is a good player, but can be replaced with a first round pick.
Edwards / Smith / rookie / Manningham / Moss – I like the looks of that. In a perfect draft, maybe even another rookie who can step up to replace Moss.
I already had the 2009 National Champion BU Fightin’ Terriers to distract me from a horrible start to the Yankees season. This trade would just be icing on the cake.
Difference between Hixon & Smith
If the difference to the Cleveland Browns between Hixon & Smith means changing the 5th round pick offered to a 4th or 3rd round pick, I still think the Giants should make the trade (but should also change the 2nd round pick offered to their later 2nd round pick). Honestly, that would also be a bit fairer. I think the Giants’ counter offer is a little low for a player like Edwards.
Tough call
I’m more torn about the decision between Hixon and Smith than others seem to be. Hixon is more of a deep threat than Smith, plus he is an excellent kick returner. Smith is an excellent possession receiver who runs good routes and has good hands, but he’s not fast and hasn’t shown much ability to pick up yards after the catch and his yards per catch are not that high. Like I said I think it’s a tough call. It also means we have to count on manningham or Moss or somebody else who’s never played a down for us to be the third and 4th receivers. Of course, the Giants probably use less 3 and 4 receiver sets than most teams because of the running game. But if the Edwards we saw last year is the real Edwards we’d look like chumps. Still I’d probably pull the trigger on this and pray that Eli and Braylon develop some good chemistry. Definitely wouldn’t take a WR in the first round after this trade.

That's why they're getting Edwards
Even though Hixon is more of a deep threat than Smith, the reason they’re going for Edwards is so that he would become the Giants’ deep threat. Smith would then compliment him well as the possession guy. Also, the Giants reporters are saying that Manningham is really coming along and he will probably see more time this season, particularly as a deep threat. Part of Smith’s value comes with the rapport he’s built with Eli. Smith, in only his second season lead the team in receptions, which says a lot.
I'll gladly take it with the Giants' counteroffer
more hesitant if it’s Smith.
But I would really miss Hixon in the return game.

yes..
but if they adressed wide receiver.. they could use a pick for a guy like pat white who could not only return kicks and play in the slot.. but run the wildcat

Depending on which picks we trade...
moving Hixon would likely indicate the Giants are hoping to draft Harvin, since I recall they’ve worked him out at Special Teams. However, he might not be available to the Giants if they trade their first rounder.
Old and Bad Information
The article references the same bogus “sources” that fueled this report weeks ago. The original story was refuted by both sides.
Is Yahoo! Sports really just regurgitating news from several weeks ago?
Let me know when something new or accurate comes up
Jason Cole
is a good reporter. My take is that where there is smoke, there is fire. Sure, no one is saying ‘this is happening today,’ but there are too many reports of this for me to ignore them. Cole is just saying he believes it will happen by draft day, that’s all.

GREAT MOVE
HMM…does nobody remember how he underperformed last year? 10 games last year with less than 60 receiving yards and 3 total TDs. Yes three. GREAT MOVE G-G-G-GMEN! Can’t use the QB excuse..Andre Johnson put up numbers with David Carr at QB.
Not really, though.
He didn’t really break out until he left.

Terrible Move!
The guy had ONE good year! This is gonna turn into Roy Williams I can feel it. We are gonna blow our load on this guy and he is gonna crap out, I know it. Not to mention after the precedent Dallas set for wide receiver market value with that turd, there is no way we get him for anything less than a 1st, a 3rd, and a player(I trust Hixon more than I do Edwards) The Roy Williams comparison is pretty interesting, just look at the similarities between the two:
Roy Williams(With Detroit)
1st year – 54 catches – 817 yards – 8TD’s
2nd year – 45 catches – 687 yards – 8TD’s
3rd year – 82 catches – 1,310 yards – 7TD’s
4th year – 64 catches – 838 yards – 5TD’s
5th year (6 games with Detroit)
17 catches – 232 yards – 1TD
Cowboys trade a 1st, 3rd, and a 6th to get him
5th year (cont with Dallas)
19 catches – 198 yards – 1TD
“Stone Hands” Edwards
1st year – 32 catches – 512 yards – 3TD’s
2nd year – 61 catches – 884 yards – 6TD’s
3rd year – 80 catches – 1,289 yards – 16TD’s
4th year – 55 catches – 873 yards – 3TD’s
Both guys came from big schools, both had their breakout years in their 3rd year, both flopped their fourth year, and coming soon, both shit the bed on their new teams.
Sort of. 16 TDs is a LOT more impressive than 7.
The boys also gave up 4 picks for him. We’re definitely not going that far.
im just saying i wouldnt like to lose either
for that big of a question mark. at least hixon is a decent punt returner
Let's give Williams and Edwards a break.
I was looking at the stats for both players in there “down years”. While Williams’ numbers were down, we have to realize that he missed four games. If he had played the whole season, he was tracking 85 catches, 1100 yards, and 7 TD’s. He did have a reception that went for 91 yards.
Edwards’ numbers did fall of but look at the mess he had at QB. With the merry-go-round system the browns used last year, it would have been hard for any WR to put up good numbers. Edwards did account for a little over a third of the teams 2500 passing yards with his 800+ yards and doubled the 2nd leading receiver (Winslow) in yards. He also averaged 16 ypc. I think with a solid QB this guy could be awesome. With our running game and Steve Smith and the Bossman, Edwards will be just fine.
I like your defense of the guy. I sure hope that you're right.
The only Cleveland game I saw last year was our MNF disaster with them and that was seen through the fog of ANGER and Budweisers!!!
The videos I’ve seen of Edwards didn’t leave me yelling YES.YES,YES
like alot of fans here! Ya, he put up good numbers against us, but that night who…
If it happens, I sure hope he commands the attention everyone’s talking about!!!
thank god
..when it happens and pray until it does, give them whatever picks they want and through in Moss if they want him maybe even Tyree but no other players allowed to leave the team! Unless they double check with me of course lol i love Braylon he really is a good WR and will open up our run game and get Smith Hixon manningham 1 on 1 and if we happen to draft another WR that guy cna get 1 on 1 too..
at this point..
moss is worth dick

there is still hope
once again this looks like it is probably just a rumor. there are still a lot of question marks. looks like the browns are trying to gold dip their turd and start a bidding war.
http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/04/14/giants-braylon-marriage-not-coming/
sigh of relief! stone hands just might stay outta NY!
I still don't like Edwards
I know the rook option is probably not as wise cuz Edwards has proven he has ability, but I still kinda don’t want Edwards.
I tried to get myself to think that he can be better than Burress, but I don’t know.

Seems like a steep price to pay
For a guy who led the league in drops. Hopefully the Giants running game will help him and vice versa.
braylon edwards
As a browns fan he’s one of my favorite players on the team i don’t care about drops… the dude got consistently doubled because we had f***** syndric steptoe at no 2 plus we had dorsey at qb for half the season. The dude is an elite talent if you guys get him that is a legit pick up i would honestly rather have him than burris. if we don get at least a 1st 3rd and wr i will be really disappointed because the dude is f***** good! I don even wanna trade him to you guys i because your picks are so low… for all i know we may get even more than a 1 and 3… He is by far more talented than roy williams to so whoever posted that earlier thread is stupid. The dude had a torn acl one year and dorsey at qb for half the other so half those numbers are retarded.
Giants need an explosive receiver and do you honestly feel Edwards is that guy? Plax is a better overall receiver than Edwards.
EH,
I think you may give Plax too much credit. Edwards is actually much more explosive than Plax. Edwards is much more of a deep threat.
All receivers drop balls, Plax wasn’t exactly the most sure handed guy either. I wish Plax never had this happen of course, but if it didn’t I be willing to trade him straight up for Edwards and think I got the better deal.
Edwards can be down right nasty. Plus he’ll be playing for a contract, a big one in his eyes. Don’t discount that (even if the Giants are only renting him….).

Easy there cgerycz
I don’t post here everyday, but I do check in on Big Blue on a daily basis and as Giant’s fans when we disagree, we do it with respect, so no need for the name calling (some of us may think that a 1st, 3rd and WR for Edwards is stupid). If you read my post, I do agree that Braylon would be a great pick up for us. Cleveland’s QB situation last year was laughable. I think that Edwards would flourish in a Giant’s uniform. That being said, I personnally think that a 1st, 3rd, and WR is waaaay too much. Moss went for a 4th rounder and as nice as I think Edwards is, he is no Moss. With the WR talent in the draft, I don’t see Jerry Reese giving up the farm for Edwards. I don’t see up giving up a 1st rounder plus another pick and a player. I guess we’ll find out in a week or so.
Thanks, njgiant
Love it when the community polices itself! Cgerycz, your point is well taken. You don’t want to trade Edwards. We get it. We’ll discuss it with you all you want, provided you are nice about it.

Your moss point
is a good point but he hadn been working out there for a couple years, wanted out, and was making a lot of money. Braylon recently said hed like to stay he had a rough year last year drop wise but still almost had 1000 yds with dorsey at qb. I am just saying i don’t see how it makes sense for us to trade him for your 29th pick and be left with david patten as our number one. If the browns don get multiple picks im pretty certain they wont make the trade because they realize they’re lack of depth at wr. I mean whats wrong with keeping him and drafting crabtree and having two good poss great recievers for years to come.
Apologies
Didn mean to affend or disrespect anyone my bad… just got a lil fired up
I'm split on this
I’ll go for Braylon because he’s got some experience under his belt and I rather the Giants not trade the world for an unproven rookie. I know he has issues with drops but so did Tiki and that can change.
I don’t think Braylon is explosive like Boldin, TO, etc however, we also can’t have a roster of receivers who are all 6" and under. I know there is a couple of tall kids in college but who knows how they’ll do in the pros.
Everyone wants Hixon to go but this is a guy we can really develop to become a long time Giant. I think he’s only 24 so he hasn’t peaked and is a game changer. He’s had some good returns and after another year or two, should be bigger and more physical.
This is a tough decision to let Hixon go or bring Edwards to wear blue. I’m glad I’m not making this decision.
