Cowgirls Release T.O.

Amazing event transpires this evening with the Cowgirls releasing T.O.  I am shocked given all the talk that had come out of jerry jones about how there was no way he was being released. What I really hope is that the Cowgirls are not beginning to learn  to stop signing these types of guys.  I always thought that after they traded for Roy Williams giving him a major extension and $ that there was no way they would ever re-coup that investment if he stayed a number 2 receiver, knowing that TO would never accept that role.  So there it is.  The Cowboys have jettisoned TO and making Roy the #1.

As for TO, I hope his time in the NFC east is finally complete.  As much as I despise TO, he is still a great player with a lot of talent.  I am glad we wont have to face him twice a year.  I would never want him to be apart of my team. I think he would cause Eli to regress or cry in the corner (which would be a regression of great magnitude).   Oh god, maybe the Foreskins will sign him.  My gut tells me he ends up in Cincy.  Too tired to pontiifcate much now, but I think there will be some lively BBV discussions on this topic tomorrow.

Any way you slice this

it hurts the Cowboys more than it helps, so haha to them, big win for us.

Just…don’t pick him up, please.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Mar 5, 2009 12:42 AM EST reply actions

I disagree and agree with you Kiss

I think this helps the Boys out are far as team chemistry. You can’t have one idiot WR going behind the back of the QB and OC and expect to have good offesive chemistry. It’s just like the case with Shockey, This is addition by subtraction. I do agree that we should not pick him up. The guy can still play and he is physically a beast that would demand double coverage but he will destroy the team with the 1st bad pass Eli throws in his direction. The guy has proven that he is a cancer.

by njgiant on Mar 5, 2009 8:38 AM EST up reply actions

Well that's why I said 'hurts more than helps'

which is to say, I’m acknowledging the addition by subtraction portion, but am pretty far from convinced that the good outweighs the bad for the Cowboys.

They just lost their proven deep threat…the guy who has been opening up the middle of the field for guys like Witten, or drawn coverage away from guys like Crayton (who I would contend was basically made by Owens). I despise Owens as much or more than any self-respecting NFL fan, but I can’t help but think this will significantly wound their offensive capabilities. Particularly since I’m a firm believer that much of Tony Romo’s NFL success has hinged on the fact that he walked into a picture-perfect situation when he joined the team: a top-flight receiver, a great pass-catching tight-end, TWO good running backs, and a great offensive line. I’d like to see how he does now without that top receiver…even if he still does have Roy Williams to fall back on.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Mar 5, 2009 12:41 PM EST up reply actions

to be fair to Romo

Bledsoe had the exact same setup as what Romo stepped into and wasn’t doing anything with it. I don’t think Romo’s a Brady/Peyton type QB, but I do think he’s very talented.

by cjmulrain on Mar 5, 2009 1:45 PM EST up reply actions

Bledsoe

was also a billion years old and couldn’t move to save his life.

It’s not that I don’t think Romo has talent…it’s that any QB with a decent arm and a set of legs could have put up a QB rating of at least 80+ in his situation. And the way he plays when there’s actual pressure on him makes me really wonder how much the guy could actually play if there was less talent around him.

Eli

Could get 40 touchdowns with that group.. Witten is a quiet, harder working shockey

and TO

is a whiny, loud mouth Plaxico. I don’t think Eli’s ever gonna be a 40 TD passer, even if he was on the ’07 Pats.

by cjmulrain on Mar 5, 2009 4:31 PM EST up reply actions

I think he could.. on a different team

but no Giants QB will ever throw for 40 unless the wind characteristics are different in the new stadium.. what made brady’s 50 remarkable is that he played in a division with no dome and only one warm weather stadium. You think of the other guys who have held the Record.. Marino, Peyton and I believe Fouts.. all warm weather or dome players

by Hoyadestroya85 on Mar 5, 2009 4:34 PM EST up reply actions

People never seem to account for weather

People are always comparing Eli to his brother and I’m always saying that’s not fair. Half of Peyton’s games are played in perfect condition. Look at his playoff record. He has done nothing when he has had to do it on the outside. The year they went to the Superbowl, they went through the dome. Even if Eli were in a dome, he’d never throw for 40 TDs. Giants are old school. We run the ball.

by njgiant on Mar 5, 2009 4:43 PM EST up reply actions

actually that's not true

They played two outdoor games they beat the ravens at their place and they won the super bowl in Miami in the Rain so they won those two games outside.

great move!

NFC East champs again.. lol Gotta be happy if you woke up a Giants fan this monring… and hell no T.O.!

by gobs56 on Mar 5, 2009 7:08 AM EST reply actions

TO

The guy does bring a lot of bad things to the table, but no one can deny his talent. He is one of the biggest, most physical receivers in the game and even though he is getting older he can still produce. TO on the Giants next year would make them favorites in the NFC and give us a great chance at winning another Super Bowl (I am not saying we do not have a legitimate shot as of right now, just an improved one). What I am wondering now is whether or not this chance is worth all of the baggage that TO brings with him. What do you think? Braces himself for the hail of rotten vegetables

by BigBlue4Life on Mar 5, 2009 8:13 AM EST reply actions

In My Opinion

T.O. is a first ballot hall of famer. He was talented enough for the 49ers to make Jerry Rice expendable. BS aside.. like you said that man can flat out play. I enjoyed watching TO play when he was in San Francisco and he’s a hell of an athlete, as evidenced by that celebrity all star basketball game on allstar weekend. T.O. is as good as any receiver in history who is not named Jerry Rice at turning a quick slant into a 70 yard touchdown while breaking several tackles along the way. I’m fairly confident that if he wasn’t a complete headcase, we’d be touting him as possibly the greatest receiver ever because I heard Steve Young talking this morning about his incredible work habits (just look at his guns). As much as I hate Michael Irvin, there is no doubt in my mind that he was a great teammate… something no one will ever say about 81.

sorry, IMO no way!!!

He’s a great athlete, but hasn’t done anything to deserve the HOF.
In fact, everything he’s done should KEEP him from gettting in.
I’ll puke the day that happens!!!

The HOF

is based on achievment on the field.. not how much of a schmuck you are off of it.

yeah but on the field

includes in the locker room. If you bitching about the ball it gets in your head. He has the absolute worst hands of any WR at the echelon he thinks he is.

by queler on Mar 5, 2009 10:52 AM EST up reply actions

i know

but he’s simply too high on statistical lists and has out of this world stats. he deserves to get into the hall of fame because not only is he physically gifted but he produced. I hate T.O. but he’s a hall of famer.

Stats

Top 6 All-Time Receptions:
1. Jerry Rice 1,549
2. Marvin Harrison (36) em>1,102
3. Cris Carter 1,101
4. Tim Brown 1,094
5. Isaac Bruce (36) 1,003
6t. Terrell Owens (35) 951
6t. Andre Reed 951

Top 5 All-Time Receiving Yards:
1. Jerry Rice 22,895
2. Isaac Bruce (36) 14,944
3. Tim Brown 14,934
4. Marvin Harrison (36) 14,580
5. Terrell Owens (35) 14,122

Top 5 All-Time Receiving TD’s
1. Jerry Rice 197
2. Terrell Owens (35) 139
3. Randy Moss (31) 135
4. Cris Carter 130
5. Marvin Harrison (36) 128

Figure he plays for at least 2 more seasons. 152 more catches puts him #2 all-time (if Marvin Harrison does indeed retire). 850 yards puts him #2 all-time. He’s already #2 all-time in TD’s (and won’t get to #1). There’s no way you can keep him out of the hall of fame.

by cjmulrain on Mar 5, 2009 11:25 AM EST up reply actions

no offense, but

You guys are making me want to puke TODAY
not just on the day he gets into the HOF. Pete Rose can’t get in the HOF because of his off field issues, but TO’s should be ignored The hall is a place to honor and celebrate the players of the game,
I don’t want to do either for TO.

IF, he gets in because of his stats, they should build a wing for jerk-offs who still managed to have the stats to make it in here.

by NY17NE14 on Mar 5, 2009 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

Pete Rose was a cheater

who broke the single most important rule in baseball. TO is a jerk and a crybaby, but is he a worse person the Ty Cobb or Gaylord Perry or Michael Irvin or even Lawrence Taylor? All of those guys had major character flaws, yet they are all in the hall of fame. I don’t like Terrell Owens, but you can’t deny what he’s done on the field.

by cjmulrain on Mar 5, 2009 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

CJ you are correct

SPOCK could look at his stats and say “Quite Impressive but the guy’s an ASSHOLE!!!!”

BigBlue

Even without T.O. I think we should be the favorites in the NFC. As it stands right now, IMO, the Falcons are the team to watch even though the lost a couple of LB’s. The Panthers are another team to watch for if Jake can keep his head on straight. There’s no other team in the NFC (at this point) that I’m too worried about.

by njgiant on Mar 5, 2009 8:44 AM EST up reply actions

I think your right

The Giants are definitely one of the top teams in the NFC going into the 2009 season, but I think there is still an issue at WR that has not been addressed. I am not saying TO is the answer, but he is tempting because he is a physical beast. I have full confidence in Reese that he will acquire the right personnel to fill the void Plax left behind.

If the Giants were to sign TO I would be disappointed because it would tarnish the organizations good reputation. Of course I would cheer like a mad man the first time TO caught a TD, but the buyer’s remorse would swell at the first hint of problems with another teammate. Like Hoya said in a post above, it is a shame he is such a head case, because he really is one of the best WR’s to play the game.

Florio

is a guy you should never, ever believe unless you go check his sources and find them credible. BTW, Newsday has already reported that the Giants WILL NOT be bidding for T.O. Thank God!!

by Ed Valentine on Mar 5, 2009 11:15 AM EST up reply actions

NO, NO, NO, NO TO!

Physically, TO is exactly what the Giants need in a WR, but signing him would be a huge mistake. He would be all over Eli for not throwing him the ball enough and not being accurate enough (this is a guy who bitched about McNabb and Romo) and be bitching about how many carries Jacobs got. As much of a distraction as Plax could be TO is 10 times worse. Why would the Giants voluntarily contract cancer? Hopefully we’ve spent most of our cap money already and don’t have enough to pay him what he’ll demand.

While I agree to an extent with the addition by subtraction points raised by some, I think on the field this hurts the Cowboys. Roy Williams is now their go to receiver. That offense just got a lot less scary.

Giants are smart

They only take a couple of those guys, and it’s always guys they think their structure will help, like Bradshaw. TO is clearly uncontrollable, Giants are not an organization to take that chance. And before anyone brings up plaxico, let face it, his drama-to-ability ratio was pretty low for an elite WR.

by queler on Mar 5, 2009 10:54 AM EST reply actions

fors shits and giggles

Lets put Jerry Rice on the bottom of that list, and I would have to say Freddie Mitchell had the most astronomical Drama-to-Ability ratio ever

I have a sneaking suspicion that he might, just might

(say maybe a 30% chance) straighten up and fly right at this late stage in his career. He seems to still have gas in his tank, that’s for sure. On the other hand, I’m glad we’re not going to find out about him in a Giants uniform (a 30% chance is not good enough odds for me.) Anyway, if he does come around, the Bills could have a really good year in ’09. If that happens, the Bills fans would love him.

by blue gonz on Mar 7, 2009 10:15 PM EST up reply actions

I have the same feeling

Finding out 30 out of 32 teams don’t want you has GOT TO HURT!!! If he uses that as motivation the BILLS will be rewarded for taking the chance. NE won’t like seeing him twice a year in their division.
