Giants add safety C.C. Brown
Apparently, the former Houston Texans safety agreed to a one-year deal. Giants General Manager Jerry Reese is now 4-for-4 in free-agent signings. Four visits, four signings. This adds much needed depth for the Giants.

Good deal
But I have to admit, I am a little disappointed they didn’t make a run at Mike Nugent, who signed with Tampa today. I’m not a Lawrence Tynes fan at all.

Nuuuuuuuuuge
can you imagine Francesa, if Nugent was the Giants’ kicker and made a kick like Tynes did to send them to the Super Bowl?
“That was a hu-YUGE kick by NUUUGE…”
i think his head would explode.

That takes care of that
Well that takes care of my last major concern about the defense — an experienced third safety. I don’t know anything about CC, but he’s got to be at least as good as, if not better than, Butler, so we’ve upgraded across the board. Who knows, he may even push Johnson for a job as starter. I’d still like to see one more quality linebacker, but I think it’s time to turn to the draft and focus on the offense. Reese must feel very sure about getting a good wide receiver prospect and I hope we get a decent OT as well.

I agree with your post Tucker
I don’t know anything about CC but I feel good about the fact that he was a 4 year started. Major upgrade to the secondary. This defense should be good for a long time because these guys are young and the newer guys will be extra hungry for some playoff success. I’m with you that I think the draft is going to go heavy on the offensive side of the ball. WR (2), OL(2), TE, RB, and that still leaves 3 picks for maybe a trade? I would like to see a quality veteren WR added that can guide the younger receivers and take pressure off Eli. Great offseason so far by Reese.
I guarantee we draft at least one LB with one of our first 3 picks.

I hope so
We need some depth there and to get a little younger.

I can't wait...
…for the season to start. I haven’t been this excited prior to the start of a season ever.
And the draft hasn’t even taken place yet! I may not make it to the start of the season. Oy.
Jeez
Brown said his broken forearm is fully recovered.
“I think I fractured it first on (former Jaguars RB) Fred Taylor,” Brown said. “Then about six plays later I broke it on (former Jags WR) Reggie Williams. Now it’s back to normal. I’m ready to get out there, run around and hit people.”
Didn’t come out of the game until it was all the way broken. Gotta admire the toughness, if not the prudence.
ESPN Scouting report on CC.
Brown has been the Texans’ starting safety for his three years in the league. He is a good sized safety who plays at least as big as his numbers. He is a long body with long arms and very good athletic skills. He has very good range and can make plays off the hash to either sideline. He is very active and not timid about inserting himself on run support and will deliver a good blow when tackling the ball carrier. He plays better the closer he lines up to the line of scrimmage and does not show great ball skills as a coverage safety. He can pedal with quick feet to extend the cushion and flips his hips quickly and easily when he needs to turn and run. He is not real quick or explosive in transition and does not close on the ball with a big time burst. His route recognition looks questionable at times and he does not appear to read the quarterback’s eyes great from deep zone. As an unrestricted free agent, he is apt to get some attention from other teams but he lacks the top tools to ever be an all pro type.
hmm..
so he’s gonna be a blitzer..
It's not easy being Giants fan in Philly.. but it sure is satisfying

Great compliment to a heavy DEF line pressure
I immediately thought that this sounded like a poor man’s Bob Saunders (Colts). Could be a great counter to Westbrook or a Felix Jones coming out of the backfield for the quick dump routes when our line pressure collapses a pocket or LBs blitz really quickly.

Giants sign Lee Vickers (TE)
NY Daily Reports:
The Giants also signed tight end Lee Vickers, a 6-6, 279-pounder who has spent time with Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Baltimore the last three years.
“He has good hands (and) I think we can get some versatility out of him as a blocker and a short-range receiver,” Coughlin said of the former defensive end in college (North Alabama).
The Giants worked out former Titans tight end Ben Troupe, but signed Vickers instead.
**I think this signing is purely for depth purposes and I don’t think he moves ahead of any of the TEs currently on the roster.
