Burress' gun case pushed back
From MG:
(Plaxico) Burress, charged with two felony counts of illegal gun possession for a self-shooting in a New York City night club in November, made a brief appearance in a Manhattan court room Tuesday morning but won't have to be back until June 15.

Unfortunate....
B/C now the Gmen are in an extremely awkward position. Primarily, they need to answer a really tough question: Do they move forward without him?
Some important questions to ponder…do the Giants:
(1) Invite Plax to minicamps? Minicamp will occur between now and June, and unfortunately the new trial date places everyone in a really awkward spot.
(2) Trade picks or assets for a WR?
(3) Trade up for a #1 WR in the Draft?
I just think the timing of this is really brutal. Its unfortunate that the date got pushed because now this prolongs the limbo for an important time-frame (the draft and minicamp, etc.)

Moving forward
As I have thought all along, even if they truly would like Plax back they need to plan as though they will not have him at all.

If i'm plaxico
I’ll accept 6 months in jail at this point.. he’ll be out in like 3 or 4
It's not easy being Giants fan in Philly.. but it sure is satisfying

I would think the main thing from Plaxico's point of view
other than avoiding or minimizing jail time, of course, is to get the thing resolved as quickly as possible so the Giants don’t go ahead and make plans to move on without him. Once they do that, his value diminishes rapidly. I have to believe that both sides have a good idea about what Goodell is planning to do.
Save the neck for me, Clark.

Damn,
I was waiting for this court date to see what was gonna go on with Plax, and the only thing they do is push it back?
Id say there probably is no shot that he avoids jail time now considering the prosecutors have all the leverage.
I bet the plan is to postpone and maybe plea to 6 months, then maybe they are trying to time it so that it occurs in the “off-season”.
Reality is this probably means more than ever that Plax is done with the Gints. If Im wrong, that’s great. Id love to have Plax back. But I think the Giants should be going with plan B if they haven’t been already.

I agree the DA has the leverage now ...
Time is ticking to the start of the season, and any time that has to be served immediately following a plea, Plax would want to be before the season starts, or at least by Game 5, after the anticipated 4 game suspension from Goodell.
The best we can do now is support our Plax, and wait. I’m going to send him a “soap on a rope” ….

Now it comes down to cap space
Do the G-men pay for an in-active player for some period of the season or do they put Plax on the non-injury/unable to perform list shelving him for the season and perhaps get some cap savings? Roll of the dice at this point but it is much more likely we do not see him at all this season.
When its 3rd and long, throw the ball past the marker.

This seems to make it less likely he'll be back
simply b/c everything has been pushed back three months….what an idiot
Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

I wouldn't necessarily say today's events draw any hard lines
because they can announce a plea deal at any time. I’m just thinking that the longer this drags on the worse it is for Plax.

Plax
supposedly the DA is offering him a year in the pokey. That’s why no deal.

Interesting "end game"
Normaly, getting a delay doesn’t hurt the “perp” as he is free, and consequences are put off. With Plax, the time to agree to any jail time as part of the deal may be slipping away, as the season approaches. “Summer jail” wouldn’t cost him big $$ for the 2009 season. DA knows this. If Plax is holding out for no jail time deal, I don’t see where he has any leverage.
Wonder if there is any game playing by Camp Plax on the delay, to force Giants to cut him / move on without him, so Drew R. can negotiate another payday with another team. That would be one impressive game of chicken, given the risk of more jail, jeopardizing the 2009 season, etc. But, you never know …
Also, saw a great post on an SI board – “Plax has ‘double street cred’ – he shot someone, and was shot by someone at the same time”
