Behold the Glory
If the prognosis on Plax is looking good and it turns out that we don't need Braylon or Boldin, All i want for My 21st birthday (a month in change after the draft) is Ramses Barden. Barden has been really impressing in his off season workouts and is coming off an absolutely monstrous season. I know that he doesn't play against the best competition but he played two games against I-A teams this season and dominated both of them. He was the only receiver on his team that was a threat and he played in an option offense (so he was being doubled constantly) yet he still had over 1200 yards this season and 18 touchdowns! Those included an average of 120 yards and a touchdown a piece against the I-A games Did I mention that he's 6'6 230 with some of the longest arms and biggest legs in the draft? And due to his size and option roots, he's an accomplished run blocker, something the Giants could use in a Wide receiver.. it's almost like having a third tight end I read somewhere. I've been following this guy since he was a sophomore and he's the real deal.
Note, his teams base formation is the flexbone.. an option offense.

Those stats are ridiculous..

You're killing me
Now I have to go find someone else for my Friday ‘prospecting’ piece. LOL!! Seriously, though, more to come on Barden later this week. I am going to have to kill you for stealing my video, though. LOL!!

Reminds me of a Jacobs situation
I kinda follow Jacobs during his college career and I was always wondering if he’d ever be a Giant. I heard of this 6"4 260+lbs RB who ran a 4.5 and why he wasn’t considered a first round guy?
Im sure Barden is NOT gonna be drafted by any team in the first round, he just isn’t. But even with a 2nd rounder the comparison of him to say, vincent Jackson or Brandon Marshall, should not be undervalued. Those 2 were incredible prospects who had workouts like Barden and played for small schools so they weren’t considered big time prospects.
Barden would be a nice project for the Giants even in the even of Plax coming back, and an Edwards/Boldin trade, or especially none of the above.
He will not last like Marques Colston so I doubt they can wait until the 7th to get him. Id say the Giants have a good shot at pouncing should he drop to their compensatory pick or if they really really like him that he is one of their second round guys.
But I wouldn’t count on it tho. Im sure other teams have seen Colston, Jackson and Marshall enough to know that guys like this aren’t just a dime a dozen.

I was in Carbondale, Illinois
When Jacobs transferred to SIU, I saw him play 4 or 5 times.. I was so pumped when he was drafted by the Giants. I thik with Jerome Simpson going in the Second last year, Ramses may not last through the second round.

That's what Im saying, guys like Marshall Colston and Jackson
Are making it harder for these guys to fall. But actually the depth of the WR class this year should help us. Guys like Britt and Nicks, even Iglesias and Louis Murphy, these guys could help our chances of getting Barden cuz they all seem to be rated higher.
Last year there was no depth, plus didn’t the Bengals select Simpson? that doesn’t say too much.
If Plax is coming back, Im sure it would make it easier for the Giants to reach for him too. Cuz remeber, its gonna take a little while for him. Utah state is not exactly the Eagles.

Well yes..
But a guy with exceptional physical gifts is hard to find. Look at Randy Moss.. he played most of his career in I-AA or T.O.

Marshall
is a legit D-1 school, actually where Bradshaw, chad Pennington, and Randy Moss played.
Barden would be a nice fit, but there are guys that have shown his size and skills before, but just didn’t have the total package to put it all together. Your boy Micah Rucker is an example. Why is he not playing? There is something we don’t know.

Marshall was I-AA
when moss and pennington got there.. They switched in the last 10 or so years

Maybe when they got there, Im not sure
But they sure as heck won the MAC championship in 1997, and MAC = D-1
And they won that with Randy Moss and THe CHAD!
So no, Marshall wasn’t D-AA with Moss and Chad.

1996
Marshall won the 1-AA National Championship, with Randy Moss. Moss only played two years (he was redshirted as a frosh), so one of his seasons came in 1-AA, and one came in 1-A.
Pennington led Marshall to the 1995 1-AA Championship game as a freshman, but lost. He was redshirted the following year for a Florida transfer(!), then came back in ‘97 when they had moved to 1-A and QB’ed them for 3 more seasons.
So, both Moss and Pennington played one full season in 1-AA before moving on to 1-A.

??
sorry for not knowing Marshall’s history, I just always recalled them winning the MAC and having Randy Moss, that’s it.
Regardless, the argument of the small school guys is true. THey may look like men among boys at these schools, but when they play in the NFL will they stand out?
I like Barden as much as anyone, but he is a real project and to hope to make him into an instand star is asking a lot. Vincent Jackson took awhile before he became any good and Brandon Marshall is a freak of nature. Id love for him to be that type of dude, but he is just much more of a crapshoot that even the other rooks in the draft.

Cal Poly? Cal Poly?
Isn’t that a pretty good school? The guy doesn’t just have physical gifts—he’s smart.

1-AA
so many good players come out of 1-AA, yet they never seem to get the pre-draft respect. Last year everyone was doubting Flacco, and look how he performed. I’d be alright with taking this guy – not to mention, he’s got a great name.

I saw Cool Joe
play probably his worst game in his Collegiate career against Villanova and I still knew that he was a pro.

I think
Being a “Blue Hen” led to people not taking him seriously, more so than being 1-AA

what's wrong with being a Blue Hen
It worked out well for Rich Gannon and Joe Biden…

WOW. a 4.48? I saw on NFL.com that it was a 4.68.
I mean, the 40 times don’t mean everything, how many times is the guys gonna run 40 yards with his shirt off on the field?
Still, a guy that big who has that kind of speed is nice.
Obviously I like speculating on the draft, but there is not a chance that you can know anything as far as what the Giants and other teams are thinking.
But Barden woukd be a nice addition, of course depending on how all the Giants picks and also Plax’s situation all play out.

Dude
Since this post I’ve been telling everybody that we should pick up this guy in the second round. He’s such a beast, i looked up more videos and even though he doesn’t always separate that well he uses his huge body and quick hands to pull it in… My cousin is a big Cal fan and he told me he basically looks liek Brandon Jacobs at receiver because of how he bowls people over.
