No Canty for Giants
Inside Football says Chris Canty will pass on the Giants in the wake of the Rocky Bernard signing. Considering the additions of Bernard and Michael Boley it's hard to be too upset by this.
UPDATE: Both Mike Garafolo and Ralph Vacchiano are reporting that Canty is still in town and still may sign today. Very interesting!

Sorry he isn't coming here
but as long as he’s out of Dallas / NFC East, I’m still happy!!!!
(I really hope he lands in the AFC)
Vacchiano
is saying that Canty is still in town but is looking for $8M per season and was already offered $18M in guaranteed money by Washington (before signing Haynesworth).
no way the Giants bring him in for anywhere close to that price tag.

How the hell do teams like
Washington and Dallas spend money like drunken sailors and yet seemingly avoid cap problems?
They skimp on depth
The way you can tell is look at special team performance. Those are your blue collar NFL players, Dallas/Skins have inexperienced players in those positions constantly. Dallas specials were atrocious last year and I’d have to look up the Skins but I wouldn’t be shocked if they were bad there also.
we have depth but yet our special teams suck

David Tyree
is our most important special teams player. With him out all last year, our ST was definitely a lot worse than in 2007. I wonder what’s gonna happen with him next year…I hope they bring him back. I love me some Tyree.
lets look at our wr and see if they bring him back
we got
steve smith
dominik hixon
sinorice moss
and mario manningham
we hopefully assume the giants go after some wr b4 the draft maybe boldin malcom floyd who knows so that makes 5 wr
the gmen will definetly draft at least one wr so thats 6
i dont remem in recent years them carrying more than 6 receivers so i think tyree’s days are numbered through training camp

like water isn't muddy enough...
They also have Rucker who’s 6’6 220. Hagan 6’2 215 and Biddle 6’1 185
Now we have a ton of draft picks and everyone is screaming for more WRs in the draft. I wonder. how many draft picks will it take to find a Plaxico replacement who can start and have an impact in week 1?
I’m dying to see how Rucker performs in mini-camp. He went through the Steeler’s camp last year so he has a leg up on the draft picks. The Steeler’s speak highly of him. They had Plax there and would be the best people to make comparisions between the two. YES, they cut Rucker, but they wished they could have kept him and would like to have him back. It could have been Rucker not Holmes in the corner of the endzone to win the SB. Check the kid out!
Shenk: That’s why I asked when you get to see the players in action next. If he’ll never make; I need to know and move on
p.s. Moss has got to go. There’s nothing special there or we’d have seen it by now.
Dallas fan here
and I just heard Canty signed a deal with the Giants, 5 years 42 million. I don’t have any concrete evidence but this is what I’m hearing. I’m not trying to act like a douche, but Canty was asking for way more money than what he was worth. He’s a slightly above average player, but I wish him success if he attains it. I didn’t think the Giants would sign him considering your D-line is already one of the best.
"Aw Shucks" - Wade Phillips
Yep, it's true and they payed him what he was looking for--
two more surpises for me. Reese and TC must be high on him. Our D will rock next year. I wonder if on our current DTs might be part of a trade package.
1st its 6 years 42 mil 17.25 garunteed
but there is no way we keep 5 dt on the active roster
my guess is canty and cofield will start
robbins will be traded
and bernard and alford will be part of a nice rotation
wow think about this line
starters:
osi,cofield,canty,tuck
definite run downs:
canty,cofield,bernard, tuck
definite pass downs:
osi, tuck, canty, kiwi
holy shit we will rock the world

They got him
Mr. Minority is right.
NFL Network is reporting that the Giants signed Canty to a six year, $42 million deal with $17.25m guaranteed. Mike Lombardi thought it was a brilliant signing, Adam Schefter was impressed too.
