Pro Bowl open thread
Today will mark the last football until next fall as the Pro Bowl is held.
Use this as an Open Thread. Talk about the Pro Bowl, including the players' whining about losing their vacations to Hawaii next season.
Talk about A-Rod. Talk about whatever you want. Enjoy!

Ok, so for the first time in years....
I watched a Pro Bowl pillar to post. It was actually a fairly entertaining game.
I’m glad they are moving the Pro Bowl to the mainland, the setting is nice, but the game looks “amateurish” in that place. Half full stands didn’t help.
Eli looked verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry comfortable throwing to Boldin. Just sayin.

my problem with the pro bowl
is that the coaches aren’t able to flex their muscles and try something innovative.. all of the rules make it crappy..
It's not easy being Giants fan in Philly.. but it sure is satisfying

Revis made a great play on that pick
I didn’t really fault Eli on that one

Geez
Pro Bowl analysis! Wow! Personally, I think I watched three plays.

Pro Bowl is the worst all-star game in professional sports.
It’s anticlimactic. For understandable reasons, it comes after the end of the season when no one cares anymore. At least the postseason college all-star games serve as a showcase for draft-eligible players. The NFL should consider doing away with it.

my dad and i were thinking that in the near future there will be fan voting for some kind of all pro team but no game..

But as long as they're gonna play it...
…note that either Eli or Carney was involved in producing 18 out of the NFC’s 30 points yesterday.

Like I said
Yesterday was the first time I’ve watched it in many years, and I actually watched the entire game. It was a pretty entertaining game, and this is from a guy who hates All-Star games in every sport.
Mostly I wanted to see Eli, but he didn’t get in until the 2nd half.
NBC did a good job with some “in depth” stuff, like being able to hear the defensive calls from the coordinators, and having the QB’s miked in the huddles. It was funny to actually hear Peyton confused about a play.
Peyton had a funny line when Eli threw his TD pass, Peyton called the exact play they were running, and after Eli threw the pass, Peyton said “Olivia could have thrown that ball!” (Momma Manning)

Free tickets to Colts and Giants games....
Playoff tickets every year, two trips to the Super Bowl, life could be alot worse for Cooper Manning.
Try being jrs1940’s brother, where a good day constituted not having me let one rip in their face.

Boldin
Was interviewed on the sideline by a certain former Giants running back, and definitely did not sound like a guy who wants or expects to return to the AZ Cardinals.
He did look good in blue though :)

I'm not sure about Boldin
He’s more like Toomer and less like Burress.. I have a feeling that the giants may make a run at two big time Receiving targets.. or they expect Burress back..

Boldin
What’s not to like about his skill set? Physical guy, makes lots of catches in traffic, can move the chains, can run after the catch, big asset in the red zone. The only question is what you make of his whole situation w/Arizona.

i love him as a player..
but with the underneath routes that he runs.. he doesn’t command a safety over top of him. We need a big guy with speed (doesn’t come easy). I’m not saying that i wouldn’t take boldin.. but if i want a possesion type receiver, i’ll take Gonzalez or Houshmandzadeh.. two guys who won’t command nearly the price..

Gonzalez as a Toomer replacement?
Everybody thinks that he would slow Boss’ development, but he might just be a good role model, or maybe he could fit in better as a flanker or H-back.

After that hit he took against the Jets....
coming back 2 weeks after that, having had part of his jaw REMOVED and put back in with pins, I have the utmost respect for his toughness. I haven’t seen examples of blazing speed from him, but he seems to know how to get open.
That hit against the Jets, I was watching that game when it happened, I really thought for a minute he was dead, it was that violent.

I thought the game was entertaining too.
One nice thing about the game being after the season and in Hawaii is the laid-back nature of it all gives a more relaxed atmosphere, and you get to see some of the players let their haid down a little. If a player on my team got seriously hurt playing in an exhibition game that for whatever reason was taken more seriously, that would upset me more than the fact that the game itself is secondary to a lot of the hoopla surrounding the event.
Save the neck for me, Clark.

Why not then skip all the pretense that the game matters
and have them play flag football? Just as much fun, the players still get to go to Hawaii and there’s less chance of injury.

Better yet
Let their wives and girlfriends just play powder puff football in NFC/AFC Body Paint
I’m always thinking

That would probably work pretty well, actually.
Better ratings, for sure.

keep getting selected to the Pro Bowl so much?

I don't know if this was meant to be sarcasm
but it’s because the Eagles keep losing in the NFC Championship game

News Flash: GIANTS RE-SIGN CARR
I thought you’d be interested in the latest NYG news, Carr was resigned, Droughs, Madison and Knight got cut. Just ran across this checking out MG at nj.com.

20 bucks says
now a quarterback controversy starts in here
by NY17NE14 on Feb 9, 2009 5:17 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Here's the controversy
Will the Giants carry a #3 QB? Will it be Woodson or someone else?
by TerraByte on Feb 9, 2009 5:24 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I'm sure they will have a # 3
But will Reese give up on Woodson and get the best quality player he can in the draft like usual? We have a bunch of picks to grab a QB they think has slipped into the later rounds. I wouldn’t be surprised by Reese doing it.

Do you think
Carr has given up any thoughts of being a starting QB? $1M for a year isn’t that much. Is he looking for a ring?
by TerraByte on Feb 9, 2009 5:27 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
My quess is it's about a RING
What team could he sign with and really have a chance at winning a ring? Minnesota? He’s from SoCal ( if I remember correctly) and just visited the sub-zero temps up there the last game of the season. Yeah, it was indoors, but you got to get there and back to the hotel, the airport,etc..
How would you like to have to tell the wife “Hey Honey, pack your things WE GOING to MINNESOTA!!!”
Seriously,( though there was a serious point there) I’d bet that after the disappointment his career has been, he feels he NEEDS a SB ring to shut his critics up. I could be wrong, have been before, but that’s my take.

Trade bait?
$!M per year isn’t a big number. No better backup on the market and I’d want to keep him, but for the right price? Throw in a pick or two. Trade up for Crabtree? Or am I hallucinating?
by django48 on Feb 10, 2009 1:08 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i actually kinda like that idea..
I think Carr would be a Good quarterback if he had a real offensive line in front of him.. But his real value is yet to be known. He could be worth a 6th or 7th round pick.. which if that is the case.. we should keep our backup.

I'm thinking more like
packaging him with a few picks to move up in the first round. We have a few to spare, and there are quite a few teams drafting ahead of us with a lot of holes to fill.
