Which Boley are we getting?
Linebacker Michael Boley, the first free-agent catch of 2009 for our New York Giants, was tremendous in 2007 but lost his job in 2008.
Let's hope we are getting the 2007 version of Boley, who was thought at the time to be a rising star. I have reached out to our friends over at The Falcoholic for more info on Boley. For now, his career stats are below. Source: Pro-Football Reference.com.

I love this signing
precisely b/c it’s something none of the fans or media saw coming. This, IMO, is what makes Reese such a great GM – he seems to have a Belichick/Pioli type talent for picking talented guys who maybe don’t fit into their current system and giving them a chance to shine in our system. This guy’s young, he’s clearly got some talent, and I bet he has a big season next year.

ill take it.
i like the signing as well. young, athletic. now AP can dominate. hes been covering tight ends, running backs. lets get back to giants defense, and let AP rome the field. lets bring sign housh, and canty and prepare for the draft.

All I keep thinking is Mike Barrow
Wasn’t well know to most fans, but really helped out when he got here

AP
was the same type of signing. Under-appreciated, but has played well (except for last season).

Agree
Very similar to Pierce signing, guy who has started and shown flashes but not consistantly and is entering their prime. I think the Giants are going after Defense in FA for a few reasons. 1. Better guys available than offense, just look at some of the D-linman available. 2. Along with Burress D wearing down affect this team a lot in 08. 3. If they don’t have the big play threat of Plax they realize they must dominate on D and win games 16-10 in order to win in 09. 4. The WR position in the draft is deep and they think they could get quality at 29 or just MAYBE with that extra pick that gives them some wiggle room to trade for Boldin or Edwards because there are no FA WR out there worth a big contract. I would love to see them get Chris Canty from the Cowboys, he’s a really good player, Kieth Hamilton type. D-End in 3-4 D-tackle in 4-3, he would add a nice push up the middle as a pass rusher and would stick it to Dallas twice a year.

I like think of it as taking Canty away from Dallas
Anything that’s a lose for them is a plus for NYG. The fact that we’ll GAIN from their loss is all the sweetier.

Pat Kirwin rates Boley as the best OLB on the market.
Not saying Kirwin is the best talent evaluator but clearly Boley has caught some peoples attention. Canty or Antonio Smith would be the prize. Both are self starters, which Haynesworth is not, and are great guys in the locker room. The problem with the Redskin getting Haynesworth is that they want him to be a leader but he wasn’t that guy on the Titans.
If Reese is able to snag Canty, I would rate that slightly higher than Haynesworth simply because of this: Osi, Canty, Robbins, Tuck. With Cofield, Alford, Kiwi and Tollefson in reserve. That is scary depth on the line.
