Breaking news ... Jacobs signs four-year deal!
ESPN has just reported that Brandon Jacobs signed a four-year deal for $25 million. This is a good deal for both parties and ensures that our #1 back is here to stay and happy. With Bradshaw and Ware as backups our running game should be able to survive the loss of Derrick Ward.
In other developments the Bucs have released just about all their big name veterans, including Dunn, Brooks, and Galloway. I guess they figure it's time for a youth movement.

Fabulous
Let’s hope he doesn’t perform the same way Plax did after he signed his extension.
As for the 3 Bucs, those are all guys the Giants should at least take a look at. Brooks especially.
"We're only going to score 17 points?" ~ Tom Brady
They're all long in the tooth, but
as you say worth a look. At the right price. We need a return man. Could Dunn handle it? I suspect they’ll all retire. No one will pay them what they’re used to. Nice work, 57. The BJ news is a welcome surprise. Anyone know what happens to the franchise tag now? Can the Giants slap it on someone else?
Ummm
Not sure if they can after they use it once even if the player signs a contract before free agency but in this case NO because the deadline to use the tag past already.
Once a year
So they can make someone else Franchise next year,
I don’t think there are any other UFAs worth the tag this year. Who is UFA next year?
I agree
I think the G-men should at least take a look at Brooks. They don’t need to sign him, but he’s worth a look.

Brooks has had a terrific career
but he is 35 years old.

true, but Junior Seau is even older than that
and he was still effective for the 19-0* Patriots the year before last.
*oh wait, they lost the Super Bowl, didn’t they?
Brooks
all you have to do is look at his numbers (109 tackles in 2007, only 73 tackles in 2008) to see that he is done. Not worth the money.

You are correct...my mistake.
I agree. He is definitely worth it. A lot of backs would have complained about how the Giants used him, but Jacobs is a team player even if his personal stats might suffer.

Congrats Big Man!
He’s earned it! I’m not worried about him acting like Plax because he’s matured over the years but I’m more concerned about him getting injured and not fufilling the contract. But I think he’s well worth the risk.
Damn right he is worth it!
But even if he gets injured you just cut him the next year if the injury is bad enough and hopefully Bradshaw is what we think he is…
IF Bradshaw can develop into a Tiki / Westbrook
type back and Ware can produce Ward like numbers, BJ should have his career in NY last WAY longer than if he just goes for the money and gets a heavy workload somewhere else. THAT sounds like a lot of fun to me!!!!
Any word on the structure of the deal?
How much is guaranteed? How much in bonuses? Stuff like that makes a big difference
Didnt say bonuses but...
The deal includes $13 million in guarantees. Jacobs will earn $15 million over the first two years.
I bet some of the 15 mil in the first 2 years is roster bonus and incentives.
Good news
I love Jacobs. I think he stays healthy and runs for about 1300 yards next year, with Ware & Bradshaw combining for somewhere between 800 and 1,000.
Kind of gives you a warm feeling knowing that opposing defenders
are looking at this thinking, “Damn! Four more years of trying to stop that freight train and waiting for my highlight on Sportscenter of me getting flattened.” LOL

Yeah....I can keep my Jersey!!
I bought Tiki….he retired and went rogue on us.
I bought Shockey….he became a distraction and had to go.
I bought Jacobs….but bought the Alternate Red color.
The only downside to Jacobs is he’s going to wear down and have a short career due to his running style. He needs to pick his battles to plow over someone. Walter Payton lasted so long because no one would get a direct hit on him.
Red?
Oh, man … we have to question your taste.

There are only two kinds of colors in my world....
Giants colors – Blue / Red / Grey / White
and….
Colors who want to be Giant colors
Example – Giants Orange has a secret desire to leave Denver and be installed on the Giants uniform somewhere. Maybe on the shoe or belt loop.
Another example – Dallas colors also wish to be on the Giants uniform. I suggest we use their colors on our CUPS. (and it’s not the one they drink out of)
I’ll be getting a blue 27 jersey this year, I just wanted to get another color to wear. This go really well with my Giant Contact Lenses.
