SBN partners with Yahoo! Sports

Today is a great day for all of the sites here at Sports Blogs Nation, including us here at Big Blue View. SBN has entered into a partnership with Yahoo! Sports, the most-trafficked sports site on the Internet, that will bring us added exposure and credibility.

Full details of the deal can be found here. An excerpt is below.

As members of our communities or readers of our sites, you already know that SB Nation takes a different approach to online sports.  Our focus has always been on empowering fans to participate in conversations that are specific to their particular teams, leagues or sports.  We’ve watched over the years as the popularity of this unique approach has rapidly accelerated.

Today we want to welcome some new members to our flourishing communities. SB Nation and our friends at Yahoo are partnering to give Yahoo Sports audiences one click access to our sites and content.  In addition to being the largest sport property on the web, Yahoo Sports is known for some of the best general sports blogs including: Ball Don’t Lie, Puck Daddy, Dr. Saturday, Big League Stew and others.

Relevant pages of Yahoo Sports will now feature contextual links to specific SB Nation communities.  Many other pages of Yahoo Sports will feature SB Nation content and links. The great news is that more sports fans will be introduced to SB Nation sites.

Existing members will notice a couple of small changes, most notably links back to Yahoo! Sports and the ability to add Big Blue View to 'My Yahoo!' at the bottom of posts. SBN's blogs will now be prominently featured on the corresponding team pages at Yahoo! See how this looks on the Giants' team page.

Star-divide

For new users

First of all, welcome! We believe Big Blue View is the best Giants fan blog on the Internet, and we hope your contributions will make this an even better place to discuss the team we love.

What can kind of community is this? Check the 'Reader Feedback' comments in the right-hand column of the home page to get an idea what kind of people are here. This is a friendly, open for intelligent, thoughtful discussion about whatever is going on with our Giants.

What will you find here? Year-round discussion of your favorite football team, that's what. Almost every day there will be something posted (and I can't recall the last day we skipped). Need a Giants fix? You will find it here.

So sign up for an account or simply use your Yahoo! or Open ID, and you can begin commenting, or sharing your thoughts by using 'Fanshots' or 'Fanposts.'

For existing users

You guys are what makes this site what it is. I think you are the best community anywhere, and you make this site enjoyable for me.

Please, welcome the new members from Yahoo! we will, hopefully, get. Teach them the rules of the road. You know what kind of site this is, and I do not want growth to change the atmosphere in the building. Don't let that happen.

You may see an increase in trolls going forward, since we will be exposed to a wider audience. Don't let them bait you. Ignore them. Flag the comments or posts as offensive and let me take care of them.

Rules of the road

This is a reminder for existing users, and a head-up for new ones about what is expected here.

First and foremost, this is a friendly place. Personal attacks are not tolerated. If you disagree with a post or a comment, bring a well-constructed, thoughtful argument to the table. In other words, bring your A-game. If the best you've got is 'Eagles suck' or 'you're wrong' don't bother. Have an opinion, and express it maturely and intelligently.

Secondly, about swearing. In limited amounts, I have been OK with it when it fit the situation. Swearing is now a no-no. It has to be considering our place in the market. Find another way to say what you feel.

Finally, when you visit the blogs connected with other teams remember that you represent Big Blue View. Please don't troll, don't go attacking other sites or looking to start flame wars. Represent the site with some maturity.

Cool.

One stop shopping for news about my beloved Giants.

Congratulations...

This is fantastic news and a testament to the great work you and your peers do.

Team-specific blogs are often a disaster, with spotty coverage and obvious bias. But of the four sports teams I follow closely (Giants, Yankees, Rangers and BU hockey) and they dozens of blogs that represent them, yours is the only one I consider a daily read.

Kudos!

This wasn't the first team specific blog that i read,

but it’s the one that i frequent the most (i go on it even more than my own team specific blog.) How much do you expect traffic to increase, because I know that the BBV community has grown immensely since i’ve been posting.. and I only started around the end of April

It's not easy being Giants fan in Philly.. but it sure is satisfying

Increase

To be honest, we have no idea. Even before this deal, I have been amazed to watch this community continue to grow during the OFF-SEASON. With the traffic Yahoo! gets, the potential is huge. We shall see.

how detailed

is the traffic info you get? Like, can you track individual visits to the site, or just get a big number at the end that tells you how many people visited? I’d almost be embarrassed at the amount of times I click on the site on any given day haha.

I discovered this blog during the preseason before last season, and it was still pretty bare-bones then. I started posting during the Super Bowl season, and it’s been great to see the site grow. Congrats Ed, you do great work and it’s good to see the site continuing to grow and you get the recognition you deserve.

It's a reflection on the GREAT JOB you've done here!!!

I’ve been reading other blogs for years and never wasted my time to become involved in the mindless back and forth naming calling on other sites. BBV was SUCH a nice change that it made me want to be involved. Thank you!!!

Can I swear just one more time before company arrives?? :-)

Hey Ed -

How is the job search going? Are you hanging in there?

by Cody K on Feb 25, 2009 1:29 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Hanging in, and hanging around

I am getting way too familiar with my pajamas and my sweatpants. But, at least the animals like having me home.

Let's hope we don't get overrun with rude juveniles.

I had a bad experience a couple of years ago on G-101.

HEY EVERYONE!! Look Ed's here!!!

Some of the guys were just talking about how lucky we are that you… Whoa! Look at the time!! I got to get to work. Nice seeing ya Ed

that's the problem with increased exposure, you start getting the trolls (for lack of a better word)

BBV’s great b/c there are no trolls here. Even who we consider trolls (Terry, etc.) are actually just fans of other teams who get overzealous sometimes, but usually bring intelligent conversation. Well, except TruePatsFan, who still hasn’t shown up post XLII, but that’s another story. Ed does a great job managing this site though, so I’m not too worried.

I haven't been back to

Giants101 since I found this blog. The contributers on that blog were pretty good by and large. I think Dan Benton put a lot of effort into keeping the comments cordial, but it got out of control. I came away with the impression that a lot of their posters were early teens who had never been taught manners.

Posters like Terry are fine with me. At least he argues the issues, even if he is wearing his blue tinted, star shaped glasses. We’ll just have to see how it goes with the new input from Yahoo fans. I’m always willing to listen to anyone’s opoinion as long as it isn’t rude.
