Wednesday Walk Around the NFL: 2-18-09
Good Morning, and Happy Hump Day everyone, here are some of the stories making headlines around the NFL:
- Pete Prisco at CBS says Byron Leftwich resurrected his career as the Steelers backup.
- The Saints freed up $7M in cap space by cutting Deuce loose.
- If you want to buy Michael Vick's house, it goes up for auction March 10th.
- The Buffalo News says there is no benefit of the doubt for Marshawn Lynch after his recent arrest on weapons charges.
- MSNBC warns us not to fall in love at the combine.
- Midwest Sports Fans has the schedule and list of players for the 2009 NFL Combine.
Finally, I found this by accident, thought some of you video gamers would get a kick out of it. Remember good old Tecmo Bowl? Well, here is a video someone put together of the David Tyree catch as it might look on Tecmo Bowl. It's not great, but considering what he had to work with, its a job well done.
Remember to check in tomorrow for a Great Moment in Giants Stadium History

Ive seen that video before
not to be a nit-picker, but technically that’s from Tecmo Super Bowl – came out a few years after plain ol’ Tecmo Bowl, and was actually a far superior game (I still play it to this day…partly b/c the Giants were fresh off their Super Bowl XXV win and were second only to the Niners in the game).
Still though, nothing compares to the 10th inning of Game 6 as done by RBI Baseball
IMO
The Giants are better than the Niners in that game because of their sick nasty defense.. Tom Rathman is one of the unstoppable players in that game though along with QB Eagles and Neal Anderson
It's not easy being Giants fan in Philly.. but it sure is satisfying

if you're playing the games
that’s true. But just simming them, the Niners rule all. It doesn’t hurt that they played in such a terrible division so they ALWAYS get home-field.
i know..
it sounds so anticlimactic using it

I've seen it before too
but it’s still awesome (RBI baseball as well). I skipped a lot of classes to play that game!
Tecmo
Nice clip, however CJ is right about RBI Baseball. To get everything organized and dubbed correctly must take up so much time.
BettorFan.
The way they create these things
They use emulators and ROMs, and slow down the play, recording as they go. If they do not get a desirable result they just reload from a certain point, trying different positions and movements to position the players where they need them to be. Pretty neat stuff, albeit over the top.
I always wondered how they did it
Thanks for the info, interesting

If it is some oddity of video game representation
Particularly on older systems, I probably know the score. Not sure if that is commendable or just sad.
commendable!

The RBI baseball clip is great
There is also a guy who took one of the newer NHL games, and was able to put together a “MatteauMatteau!” clip, it is absolutely amazing. If I can find it again, I will post it.

If anyone anywhere can argue in the crease
it is the Buffalo Sabres when Brett Hull was all over the crease when he scored the series winner in overtime. There are rumours abound that the commish was under pressure from ESPN to count it so they could get poker on the television, as it would pull better ratings.
if that's true
that’s really, really depressing. Almost as depressing as being an Islanders fan ::pulls paper bag over head::
that IS depressing
especially considering how dominant they were back in the lat 70’s/early 80’s. Sad state of affairs for a once proud franchise.
I was born in 1984
I’m one of like 7 people who became a fan after the Dynasty days. I did get to watch Pat Lafontaine when I was a kid though – he was awesome.
thats true..
but the matteau goal was still garbage
