An announcement for Yankee fans
Many of you know that, in addition to this site I have been writing about my beloved New York Yankees over at Bugs and Cranks.
Today, that changes. I am joining the team over at Pinstripe Alley, SBN's Yankees blog. It is a great opportunity, and I am excited about it.
Don't worry, though, Giants fans. The work at PA won't impact Big Blue View. I think this is the best Giants fan blog on the Internet, and I want to keep it that way.
Hopefully, my writing at PA will create sme crossover and bring new readers to both sites. I look forward to seeing you over there.

Congratulations!
I know that is something you’ve wanted, now go mount your palace coup over there, so I can mount mine here, LOL!

Sweet!
Baseball season can’t start soon enough……
Neither can the draft, and then minicamp, and then summer camp…..ahhhhh, you get the picture.

I figured if I included that in my profile...
I’d have to face all that HALF- BREED, demeaning stuff again and not be let in !!!

We'll just agree
not to talk about that. We will stay with your good side, and talk Giants.

good side??
Now there’s a term I don’t hear often enough.
Agreed, we’ll just keep it to NYG stuff and I’ll pretend you never said that!!!!

Good news
Despite being a Mets fan, I try to check Yankees stories every so often, and I love the SBN format. I’ll definitely be stopping by there a few times this year, hopefully to gloat about A-Roid’s power decline or Cheesy Sabathia’s weight.

I like the format too
But I’m not at all crazy about Amazin Avenue. I get my Met fix at Metsblog

Yeah I know....
But that Amazin Avenue is too wrapped up in VORP and PECOTA and all that crap. I just like talking about baseball, wins and losses, BA’s, HR’s, RBI’s and ERA’s

i can understand not wanting to get too into stats
but if thats the case at least leave bad stats, like RsBI and ERA, out of it too when there are much better metrics out there.
metsblog is a great source for news but they are pretty skimpy on analysis. also eric simon is teh roxzorz.

I love what Cerrone does at Metsblog
there’s nobody on the internet better at compiling all the relevant stories relating to a team. Sometimes he has stuff up before the official website. But I’ve found that over the past year and a half, the comment section has become almost insufferable, filled with trolls. The worst part is that the bad trolls aren’t even the Phillies fans, they’re the “Mets” fans who just keep saying how awful the team is, over and over again. I still check Metsblog on a daily basis, but I’ve stopped using the comments section.

I never read those comments
the minute he puts a story up, there are 100 comments, I don’t even bother. But it is the best place to get up to the minute Mets news.

Ed, I have a couple of Yankee items that might interest you .....
First of all a 1975 Yankee Yearbook. In case you didn’t know about it there is a picture of limited partner John Delorean….what a hoot! Remember these guys? Bobby Bonds, Thurman Munson, Catfish Hunter, Ron Bloomberg, Fred Stanley,Rick Dempsey,Elliot Maddox, Roy White, Dick Tidrow, Tippy Martinez, George Medich, Rudy May, Chris Chambliss, Sandy Alomar, Pat Dobson, Sparky Lyle, Graig Nettles, and of course, Lou Piniella.
A little trivia. Chris Chambliss used to coach the Greenville braves farm team a few years ago. He used to come down to the club a lot and I played a lot of racquetball with him. He is such a class act.
By the way…no steroids needed by these guys.
I also have a 1944 Yankees official program my mother got when she went to a game. It has ads for war bonds and a lot of other cool things inside it.

Nice
When I was a kid, up until the age of about 10 or 11, I was a diehard Yankee fan, and I mean diehard. I’ll still put my Yankee knowledge up against most Yankee fans anyday. For whatever reason, “Chicken” Stanley was my favorite Yankee, and I wrote him a letter and he sent me back an autographed picture. It meant the world to a kid of 8 or 9.
2 years ago, I was working as a volunteer at a charity baseball auction to benefit the Joe Dimaggio Childrens Hospital in Hollywood, FL. I met Mickey Rivers, and he told me a story that changed my view of Fred Stanley forever, LOL.

how'd you switch to the Mets?
just out of curiosity. My dad was a big Yankees fan when he was a kid (Mantle was his favorite player, by far), but the Mets came around just as my dad was hitting his teens, and they were easier for a Long Island kid to get to and had the added benefit of being the team his father and brother didn’t root for.
Despite being a Mets fan, I consider my knowledge of pre-1962 Yankees trivia to be on par with anyone. No shame in admitting I love Mantle and Berra and Gehrig and Ruth, and respect DiMaggio.

My switch to the Mets
When I was a kid, between 6 and 10ish, my Dad used to get alot of free Yankee tickets. I remember Bat Day, Jacket Day, all those great giveaways they used to do. The Yankees were my obsession in those days. My best friend Bryan, his Mom used to date this guy Billy, and Billy was always amazed at how much I knew about the Yankees. If he saw me on the street, he would drag me into one of the neighborhood bars and show me off to the old men with my Yankee knowledge.
Anyway, sometime around 1980-81, Yankee tickets stopped coming, and my Dad started getting lots of Met tickets. I just started seeing the Mets more and more, and I just morphed.
My Dad was the same way, he was a Yankee fan through the “Mick” days, but then after that became a Mets fan.
How great would be to travel back in time to the 20’s, and see some of those guys play? Although I am not sure I could go to a baseball game in a suit and a straw hat, LOL!
