New York Giants' notes, 02.17.09
A few notes for your reading enjoyment today.
- ESPN's Matt Mosley breaks down the issues facing each NFC East team. Pretty simple, actually. for Mosley it is like this. Cowboys -- toxic locker room. Eagles -- Donovan McNabb. Giants -- Plaxico Burress. Redskins -- Jason Campbell. I'd say that is pretty much dead on.
- Here is a good breakdown of names to pay attention to at the upcoming NFL scouting combine.
- I hope Peter King has all of his Brett Favre-fawning out of his system now. Oh, and what makes King think it was OK for him -- a so-called journalist -- to interject himself into Favre's career plans?
- The National Football Post predicts that Derrick Ward isn't likely to find the big-money contract he is looking for this off-season.
- NFL.com says that five of the potential top 10 picks -- and as many as seven players who could be selected in the first round -- were New Jersey high school stars.
- Forget about Arizona linebacker Karlos Dansby being a Giant. Adam Schefter of NFL.com reports that the Cardinals will use the franchise tag on him.

New Jersey's
becoming a football hotbed. Strange.
It’s funny to me that the biggest issues facing 3 of the teams is one player, while the biggest issue facing the other team is, well, the whole team. Hmm…
Mosely hits the nail on the head for the Gmen. I can not see JR trading away draft picks to get Bouldin thats not to say that I wouldnt want him in a Blue jersey next season. I just do not see it happening. I agree 100% about Nicks though he has a lot of raw talent, he isnt as big as Burress but plays very physical. He could be a good pro for quite a while.
Too bad Rutgers can’t seem to lock down these local talents often enough…
As for Ward. I think the RB position is getting devalued money wise because there’s such a wealth of a good backs in the league and the draft. Last year I think 5 backs were taken in round one. This year will likely be the same or close to that.
Many teams have 2 starting caliber backs these days… It’s just a position where the over supply of quality players is going to drive down free agent prices and draft positions.
Rutgers
Heavily recruits down here in South Florida now, the Schiano connection I guess. You can’t drive 5 miles on any major highway here without spotting a Rutgers billboard.

New Jersey has always had a lot of great football talent. I’ve always felt that if they could keep all that homegrown talent in Jersey, Rutgers would be competing for a national title on a regular basis.
Rutgers is doing better though
with local players every year. Kenny Britt is evidence of that.
