Afternoon New York Giants notes: Giants know they can't let up
Some afternoon notes concerning our New York Giants.
Tom Coughlin said today he is looking for consistency from his team the rest of the way.
"We have won two out of the last three. We won a good game the other night. We had great energy. We had great passion. We played physical. That is the way we play. That is the way the Giants play. And we have to continue that," said Coughlin. "For us going forward, it is one game. But we have a lot of very, very big ‘one games.’ And that characteristic, along with a real concentrated effort to make sure that our preparation is outstanding, that our practices are good, that our focus is great, that our mistakes are way down. That would give us a very good chance."
Quarterback Eli Manning echoed his coach.
"Last week was a big game, but we’ve got four big ones left, no bigger than this one versus Philly," Manning said. "It is just a matter of going out there, expecting to play well, see if we can make some plays and play our best football and go out there and get a win."
Defensive back Vince Anderson was placed on the practice squad/injured list this week. According to Mike Garafolo via Twitter, the Giants want Anderson back next season when he is healthy. Apparently, Anderson has a wrist injury. I hope he's back. I like the kid, and I think he has potential.

This stuff is more important than it looks.
The Giants have always been an emotionally-driven team. When they think they can win, they do. When they wonder if they can win, they don’t. I think Coughlin is setting just the right tone. I’m a little less happy with Eli saying “Let’s see if we can make some plays,” but that’s just Eli-being-Eli.
What do you think? Do the Giants believe they can beat Philly?
I left my swagger in my other pants.
yes...
if they didn’t than why even bother?
after an emotional victor last week if this team does not believe in themselves than they do not deserve to be in the NFL….confidence aside, they got a job to do.
"If you don't know what you're doing... just rush the quarterback" - LT
I think they do,
but will they beleive it if Philly gets up on them quick, thats the question and i hope we don’t have to find out.
1st quarter last week
Dallas got up 10 quick, we weren’t making any offensive progress, but they hung in, got the huge turnover right before the half, and well, we all know the rest.
But yeah, that’s my general fear too. Well, that and Gilbride deciding to abandon the run and throw it 50 times in a cold, windy Giants Stadium.
Cowboys got at least 7 of those
in the 2nd, and I think they may have got all 10 in the 2nd.
that's correct
After the Denver Debacle, I was thinking that we would know if the Giatns were in it to win it after 1 quarter — really, we would know after 1 quarter whether this season was over or not. And after 1 quarter, we knew it was SEASON ON

I thought the team had mentally and emotionally...
… given up on themselves. They acted like dogs that wet the carpet but couldn’t understand why they were being scolded (some hit) and that lack of self-knowledge had them listless and lost. They went from cocky, to confused, to doubting themselves, and now… well, there is no room for cocky. But believing in themselves — that’s the ticket to something better, obviously. I still have many problems with the talent level of this team — though sometimes even inferior talent can will themselves to win, it’s true — but I will support them all the way. Even when it doesn’t seem like it. I do believe Philly to be more talented and… oft times better coached… The birds seem to love the Medowlands, and seem able to always pick upon both old weaknesses in the Giants and expose new ones, like some kind’ve game. So… Emotion. Passion. Damn the torpedos. Kamakazi. Balls out, this -is-our-house-yo, play is the only way we win. No subtlety.
play is the only way we win.
Apollo Creed
said it, and the Giants need to listen…“there is no tomorrow, there is no tomorrow” So I hope they play like last week with the same intensisty and better excecution, or it might be a long day.
LAST GAME OF THE SEASON VS VIKINGS
DALLAS GOES 1-2 TO ENTER GAME VS EAGLES AT 9-6
EAGLES GO 2-1 AND GO INTO GAME VS EAGLES AT 10-5
GIANTS DESPITE OUTCOME VS EAGLES GO 2-1
WITH WIN VS CAROLINA AND WASHINGTON
AND FACE VIKINGS WITH A RECORD OF 9-6. GIANTS BEAT THE FAVRES GO 10-6
IF EAGLES BEAT DALLAS THEY WIN DIV AT 11-5, IF EAGLES LOSE THEY FINISH IN A THREE WAY TIE WITH GIANTS AND DALLAS AT 10-6 WITH TIEBREAKERS DETERMINING DIV WINNER AND WILD CARD BERTH. BEST CASE SCENARIO IS
DALLAS NOT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS AT ALL, LOSING TIEBREAKERS TO GIANTS AT
10-6 FOR EACH TEAM.

Easy on the caps, friend
You make valid points, but the all caps is bad form. Please, use lower case and make it easier on our eyes.
That would suck
if all teams are tied 10-6 and it goes down to tiebreakers.

A 3 way tie is perfection...pretty much...
tho…sometimes I can’t control THE VOLUME OF MY VOICE.
"It ain't over till its over"---
When in doubt...throw it to Steve Smith.
I see it different --
Dallas loses three of four: 9-7
Giants split: 9-7.
Eagles win three of four: 11-5.
Packers and Giants get the WCs.
I'd rather we just win everything
but if I had to bet, I’d bet the on the eagles winning the division.
But the fan in me says we’ll win the division, although its definitely tougher on us.

well zill....
when YOU see it that way…its bound to happen.
Personally, I could could give my dog’s left nut (and she’s a girl…) HOW the Giants make the playoffs.
As long as they get it, I’ll be happy as a pig in shit.

I just don't believe in the Cowboys
I think they’re going to fall off (against San Diego and NO), while you guys will lose to us :), but start picking things up.
I see us winning the division, with you and Green Bay getting the WC nods.
I really see Dallas falling off the face of the playoff picture.
"What did it feel like? That collision, I didn't feel nothing, because he was pretty much defenseless. It was like running through a cardboard box. Seriously. Cardboard box."- Sheldon Brown on his pounding of Reggie Bush in the '06 Playoffs
I like all a that...
except for the losing to the Eagles part.

If there's anything I'm sure of, its the Sun coming up in the morning, and Steve Smith.
