A Must Win?
Well, I concede that we NEED to win this game. I won't say it's a "must win", but it's a very important game.
First let's look at these scenarios:
Oakland beating Philly, Oakland beating Pittsburgh, Green Bay losing to Tampa Bay, Arizona losing to Carolina, and Kansas City beating both Washington and Pittsburgh all lead me to believe this (and there are more examples) -
When all of the factors have been figured in, we have a good chance of taking the Eagles. If there's anything that has been stable and consistent, it has been inconsistency. With that inconsistency, we just don't know what will happen to other teams fighting against us for a playoff spot. We need to win mostly because we don't just want to leave our playoff entry/exit up to the wind. A little more control would be nice.
You say "Yeah, but Pittsburgh is having a time with injuries," or "Yeah, but Oakland is bound to beat someone," or "Yeah, but Kansas City is a better team than their record shows" - to all of that, I say "True!"
However, there are so many immeasurable things that happen, such as injuries, team chemistry, and the like. Injuries can be measured but their impact can't be, at least right off the bat. We can speculate about injuries, I did when we lost AP - I thought he was playing slow (and hated it) and that I would not miss, but I thought his knowledge on the field would be sorely missed. Looks as if that's not necessarily true. Truth is, there are so many factors outside of the numbers that can determine the game. For instance, what if Philly doesn't "show up" as they say? What if we DO show up? I know that McNabb, like Eli, has been stove-hot in one game and freezer-cold in the next.
That's why we play the games. Not many talking heads made it known that they believed we would beat the Cowboys. And I think we have one of those non-measurable things going on, and I believe in it : M-O-M-E-N-T-U-M. You say "Momentum?! We can't string together two wins!"
I think more happened to our team during this last win than has happened all season. For the first time, Giants fans everywhere had at least a little more confidence that the defense might actually make some stops. The offense made enough plays, and we didn't always settle for field goals. Our special teams got a score. This is the kind of togetherness we have not seen until this past Sunday.
Last Sunday, we actually played with fire, we played with zeal, and we made plays when plays had to be made. If we continue with that type of play, we can beat anyone. And there's ultimately only one way to measure THAT - with another check mark in the WIN column.
Bring your wing clippers to this one, guys. It's time to ground a few birds and get some revenge.

A few things that can happen in this game
There is a chance that one of these teams don’t show up. We both have momentum, as we are coming off 3 straight wins and you guys are coming off of one big divisional win. As they say “Any given Sunday” – which is what happens when you have teams like Oakland and TB winning games against playoff teams. It happens – whether its jet lag, injuries, or mentality.
Currently we have most of our injured players possibly practicing this week (including Westbrook and Curtis) and possible returns for Jackson and Jordan in this upcoming game.
We usually play our best games in Decemeber but there is no doubt that this could be a tough one. You guys got homefield advantage, and with the pressure of a division opponent and play off contention anything can happen.
This should be a good game and in Prime Time no less…

Yeh
There are pluses on both sides. it will be a playoff type atmosphere I hope.
We didn't even have a chance for the "perfect season", but we did have the perfect ending.
Must win?
I agree…no, its really not a must, win or die game.
I say 9-7 by any means these next 4 games…meaning 2-2, doesn’t matter who. The Cowboys I thin
Yet, beating the Eagles holds more weight, so I’d like this to be one of them.

I hear ya,
there could be even more of a momentum built with a win against these birds. I hope that after one of our guys get a sack, they go over to the Eagles’ side and pick up the phone there.
We didn't even have a chance for the "perfect season", but we did have the perfect ending.
Must win
Yea I mean I think the Cowboys will likely end up at 9-7. Which means we need to hit that mark. But we need to beat the Eagles to build on our momentum. SO in essence what I am saying is yea its a must win because we need to maintain that swagger atmosphere in the locker room. We gotta come out and punch Philly in the mouth and keep jabbing till we get the opportunity to knock them out.
the can win...
if they play with fire and emotion, they have alot of talent on their team but lately they have not been playing with that spark they’ve had the past 2 seasons, they did last week. if they have that spark this week they can very well win.
on yahoo sports there is a playoff sceirno similator. i had the giants beating the eagles and every other game ending with the team with the better record winning… giants were the fourth seed and the eagles missed the playoffs, if the giants lose they must beat the vikings.
GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

every game from here on out
is a “must win” game. I know as fans we can afford to bounce around different scenarios of which and how many games need to be won to make the playoffs, but I guarantee you that the Giants aren’t looking at it that way. If for no other reason than this is a divisional game and it’s against arguably our most hated rivals who’ve already laid a whoopass on us. There is no other game bigger than this one. For the div. title, for a playoff spot, for pride.
I think the number one key to this game is our Dline getting to McNabb. They do that and everything else falls in line. Our weak back end defense won’t be forced to make plays they clearly haven’t got the talent or desire to make. Rough McNabb up a few times and he’ll falter. If that happens then chances are good that we can capitalize off of a few mistakes.
I’m feeling good about this game. There’s no one factor I could point to that gives me confidence that the Giants are going to win other than the belief that there’s no way the Giants will let last year’s playoff loss go unanswered.
I don’t even think it’ll be close at the end. The game that worries me most is the Carolina game. But if they can get past Philly and in a convincing fashion then I think that will begin a roll that can take them through these next few weeks and get their heads back in confidence mode. I think what’s limiting them the most right now is a severe lack of belief in their ability to compete with elite teams. They got some of that back last week against Dallas, but a win today would pave the road ahead for a full return to the kind of attitude and confidence that was the signature of this team when it was pounding out win after win after win.
