Who is Jonathan Goff? I'm excited to find out

I don't know about you guys, but I am pumped up to see what Jonathan Goff can do at middle linebacker for the New York Giants Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Giants have been high on Goff since taking him in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He has shown flashes of athleticism and tackling ability on special teams. Now, we find out if the 6-foot-2, 236-pound second-year guy can be the Giants middle linebacker of the future.

I am not expecting the second coming of Ray Lewis on Sunday. And I'm not expecting a mistake-free performance. But, if he can show the ability to be stout in the middle, make plays sideline to sideline and get in the backfield once in a while that will be enough for me.

Here is a Goff highlight reel from his days at Vanderbilt.

I don't care if he's a three down player

I just want him to be competent.

I don't care either..

I just would like to see our players hitting people instead of standing around scratching their balls.

That is a signature worthy quote.

Is Osi only playing on 3rd downs?

Did Osi get demoted to playing on only on passing downs? I’ve heard that Osi has been getting pushed back five yards on running plays. I live in South Jersey, the only games that get broadcast down here are the Eagles’. I hate it!

that what i'm hearing too....

Who is replacing him on running downs?

Is Kiwi taking the field on running plays? What about Sintim, is his palying time going to increase?

by RickJS on Dec 3, 2009 3:20 PM EST up reply actions

don't know...

i just assumed it would be kiwi?? Maybe even some Canty? i’m just going off what the guys over at ESPN told me. I saw Canty playing DE last week…well, i think we all did when Sheridan asked him to drop back into coverage…

I believe

it’s Zorn not Zing.

I heard Canty

I would think Kiwi would start but they seem obssed with making Canty a D-End when I thought he was going to be a D-Tackle here. I don’t get it. I’m sure they’ll mix it up Sunday with Kiwi and Canty.

by Landeta on Dec 3, 2009 5:54 PM EST up reply actions

LOL!!..Perfect fit!!

Fat..Slow..Talks a good game..A no-brainer on a Sheridan ‘Cerebral’ devised defense…and let’s get ‘Mad Dog’ Russo out there in the Safety spot..At least he’ll talk some good smack with the receivers that burn him.

by Bobbiblue on Dec 4, 2009 2:59 AM EST up reply actions

Canty

I would say Canty is playing the DE spot and will move inside on passing downs when not rested.

It does appear that the coaches are making changes which is a good sign.

Goff seems to be a tough bastard

his ST play..and this video exemplify that.

What do the Giants need? A tough bastard up the middle.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Oh you know he will be Free..

I know in my heart we would have beaten Denver if he made it to the game..He may very well have lost a step or two, but he is an emotional leader on the field or sidelines.

ummm....there's a nasty rumor circulating....

that CC Brown will be starting this weekend?

is there any truth to this?

Well, if anyone has any Dallas WR on FFB leauge this is the week to start ’em.

Say it ain't so

Read in the star ledger our starting safteys will be Brown and Rouse with Ross working in on the nickel packages! If we don’t get a pass Rush this could be a long day!!

yeah

Maybe Brown learned his lesson.

Maybe BS learned his lesson. Don’t send Brown to cover Austin Miles, please just don’t do that, and I think we’ll be ok.

Kenny Phillips we miss you! Get better please!

I reallly hope KPs

Knee responds to treatment..Else we may never see him again..Damn shame…You can bet the ranch that JR is already looking for Safety prospects in preparation for the draft .

by Bobbiblue on Dec 4, 2009 2:53 AM EST up reply actions

They need a real spark

hopefully Goff can help provide it.

You play to win the game!

by Simms-McConkey on Dec 3, 2009 4:39 PM EST reply actions

I'm sure we are going to find out early

You can bet that the Cowboys will be coming right up the gut at Goff. They are probably licking their chops right now.

by MJ20 on Dec 3, 2009 5:10 PM EST reply actions

Let them bring it

So that we can see what this kid’s made of – while the season’s still alive we don’t want to be thinking too much about the future, but while we’ve got the opportunity (i.e. AP’s injury) then let’s make the most of it…let’s see him in the backfield and stuffing Barber up the gut…and i’m sure he’ll see plenty of him head on the way our DT’s have been playing recently!

by Jonah19 on Dec 4, 2009 7:06 AM EST up reply actions

If Osi got demoted that's a good thing..

Stopping the run is the key to winning this game..and obviously he can’t..I hope they trade the bum in the offseason..that old fart Al Davis would take him and we’d get some good draft picks. He, if we are lucky makes one decent play a game and then disappears for 59 minutes.

by Bobbiblue on Dec 3, 2009 5:51 PM EST reply actions

Osi

Definitly not had a good year, but could be a combination of things including playing under BS, because NOBODY has looked good against the run on our D. Besides We need to put a picture of Kiwi on a Milk cartoon because I barely notice him out there

by Late for Dinner on Dec 3, 2009 6:36 PM EST up reply actions

Pre-season walkout

I wonder if there has been more fall-out from the preseason walkout than we think. Maybe Osi just doesn’t want to play for Sheridan. Sounds a bit Tkik-ish to me, and a risky ploy from Osi, but it is certainly making it difficult for BS to keep his job.

He was like a god walking amongst mere mortals. He had a voice that could make a wolverine purr and suits so fine they made Sinatra look like a hobo.

5th round

whyy was he picked in the fifth round?

by feaglesmvp on Dec 3, 2009 6:46 PM EST reply actions

apparently he wasn't a good tackler cuz he took bad angles

not sure what else. I’ve read he doesn’t have good hands (he’s a LB….) and isn’t the greatest in pass coverage (tho I read he’s good in coverage too from other mock draft sites)

He had a 2nd round grade going into the draft and ran the 2nd fastest 40 for a LB in the draft (that included Jerrod Mayo, Dan Connor and Curtis Lofton).

Why was he a 5th rounder? Who knows.

Need and dumb teams is a combo that drops a lot of players in drafts.

William Beatty might be the Giants starting LT as soon as next year, and there’s a whole bunch of other teams that could’ve used one, and they picked well before the Giants last year.

Saw the video

And if we get a few more goal line stands like he had the beginning, I won’t be complaining about the switch
