New writer joining BBV

In our continuing effort to take over the world, at least as it pertains to the New York Giants, Big Blue View is bringing another excellent writer onboard.

David Jacks, who has been blogging for SNY's Giants Football Blog, is the newest member of the team here at BBV.

David often brings a light-hearted touch to his writing. Might be a nice change of pace on occasion to my tendency to be newsy and analytical. I'm not going anywhere, though, which means even more Giants stuff for you to read here at Big Blue View.

David will be posting a few times a week and I hope you enjoy his work. Please join me in welcoming him to what I believe is already the best non-newspaper affiliated Giants site on the Inter-Google.

Oh, one more thing, David. No posts advocating the 3-4 defense allowed!

Welcome aboard David

Hopefully we don’t loose any more games or I have a feeling the light hearted approach won’t work around here.

how about

advocating the good ol’ 5-2?

we only have 2 starting quality linebackers anyway.

The 5-1-5 should be our base offense!

And welcome aboard Dave.

3-4

For this Giant team? They have a hard time getting three linebacker’s that can play, a fourth would be scary, and not in a good way…Welcome.

Hi David

Welcome. I’m sure that you will quickly work out who are the sensible posters and who are the crazies. Sometimes the Philly supporters actually post items that make sense (go figure!).

Welcome.

I think we needed someone to pour the kerosene on the Sheridan fire.

Never say die, 57,

never say die. A lot of people think the 3-4 is a relatively new wrinkle, but in HS we played against a team that used the 3-4 in every gameand drove us nuts. (I graduated in ’50.)

Why does everybody assume a switch to a 3-4

guarantees instant success. Yea I know the 86 and 90’s teams won with it but thats becasue of a guy named LT. Also most of the League ran a 3-4 in the 80’s so it’s not like the Giants were ahead of the curve. The 85 Bears were a 4-3 and all of those Redskin teams were 4-3’s and they won plenty. Under Spags and Fox the Giants had champioship D’s in the 4-3.Yea NE and Pitt have won SB’s casue of it but the Jets and Cowboys have not. The Ravens were a 4-3 team in 2000 when they won it all.

Don’t get wrong if the personel is there than go for it but the Giants would need to signifaicantly change there personall in the front seven and why waste time doing that you if you can win with 4-3 it’s been done many times including with the Giants.

Obviously this is a switch that would take more than one year to complete.

I say now might be the time since we are looking to draft linebackers this year anyway.

I’m not advocating the 3-4 because we won two Super Bowls with it. I’m suggesting that it is an inherently better defense against the type of offense a lot of our opponents have morphed into the last couple of years. Guys like Witten, Welker and a host of others are killing 4-3 defenses with slant and quick over the middle passes. The 3-4 stacks up well aginst that kind of attack.
In addition the 3-4 prevents quarterbacks like Romo from buying time by drifting out of the pocket and making big plays with the additional time he buys. In a 3-4 it would be easier to put pressure on that kind of play.

I’m working on a fan post which will be a more in depth analysis of the advantages afforded by the 3-4.

Welcome David

It shouldn’t take you too long, to figure out the personalities around here. With saying that, i hope you have a good sense of humor, which i’m sure you do.

Welcome aboard

you do the writing, I’ll clear out the serious malcontents and trolls.

Welcome David

Hope you’re thick skinned! Also we have too much depth at DL given this past off-season’s gear-up… why would a team so (paper)strong at DL and weak at LB try to undertake that when it would reverse our CLEAR and abvious path over the last several seasons?
Anyways I look forward to reading your contributions. Soon this site will have so many readers and commenters that the level of discussion will drop to that of other, content-poor sites like FOX and ESPN…

You play to win the game!
