'Honey-Do' list

consisted of shoveling plowed-in cars outta 4 foot snow banks so the girlfriend could get to the ravens game….. so i think i’m set for the day after that one. she picked a hell of a day to work a concession stand for fund raising.

Up here in Upstate NY where we usually get drilled by these storms there isn’t a snowflake to be found anywhere.

I hear ya, Ed… i grew up in Rochester, NY, so i certainly know what that’s like.

by tulls200 on Dec 20, 2009 1:36 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah Rochester

It dumps on Buffalo, then skips you, then dumps on Syracuse. But you’ll get it eventually, along with a nice coat of ice on top and 300,000 RGE homes with no power.

by Jaybat on Dec 20, 2009 9:52 PM EST up reply actions

In the '90s, Rochester got the most snow,

Syracuse the most precip. S.rprised me, too (well, not Syracuse, but I figured B for the most snow) when I read the Weather Bureau. The Finger Lakes area doesn’t get anywhere near as much, because it doesn’t get the lake effect (from the big lakes.)

by blue gonz on Dec 21, 2009 6:38 AM EST up reply actions

You should come up to the Tug Hill Plateau during the winter

Located due east of Ontario, it receives 300+ inches of snow. Back in 2007, this small town of Redfield (located in the extreme NE corner of Oswego Co.) broke the national (east of the Mississippi) record of 12 feet, 2 inches of snow. It happened in a span of about 8 days. The previous record was held by Montague in western Lewis Co. with 10 feet.

Put it to you this way. Any sledder in CNY that has come north to snowmobile, has heard of, and has ridden through Tug Hill. Lake effect up here can be outrageous!

by Hootman on Dec 21, 2009 3:06 PM EST up reply actions

Yea Jersey was wierd like that too

Usually nothern Jersey especially close to NY State gets killed while Central Jersey gets a little and Jersey Shore just gets rain. This storm the Shore got killed and where I live in Central NJ got a hell of lot more than the northnern NJ. I shoveld about 10 inches this morning.

Haha..Well..I'll tell ya

I was born, raised (I think..haha) in Fishkill N.Y. The proudest moment was leaving behind my snow removal junk when I moved to Raleigh, N.C. after 37 years figuring I would never need it again..Wrong!..In 1994 we had an ice storm..It was so bad they closed the whole town down..This occurred on a Saturday evening..We were completely house bound..The following Thursday a city truck drove by and two rednecks were shoveling out ‘wood-chips’ on the road!!..I was like what in the hell??..Two weeks past before we could venture out..They had absolutely zero snow removal equipment, just a couple of clowns with about three or four teeth total shoveling wood-chips on the road..In 1998 hurricane Fran hit..My first hurricane..being from New York I figured “Oh no big deal, just a storm”…Wrong!!..The wife woke me up at midnight in a panic…I walked out on our back deck and trees were crashing all over the place..I ran back in the house and got everyone in the downstairs bathroom and we listened to trees crashing down…Well…No power for over a week and six months of cleanup (26 trees and knee deep debris)..In 2001 February we got tagged with 18 inches of snow…I had a round-point shovel to use to clear our 130 foot driveway..That’s when I said screw this we’re moving to Florida!!…Well, apparently I didn’t move far enough away from that bitch “Mother Nature”!!…Two days ago while you guys were bracing for snow, we got whacked with floods that were consuming cars like match-box toys..I had to go rescue my wife in my truck and leave her car in a Mall parking lot…Bareley made it there and back..When I picked her up some poor handicapped guy was stuck..I had to literally bail out his car..the water was up to the seats inside..I spent two hours getting his car started and running right…When we finally made it home I told the wife “We’re moving!!”…She brought me back to Earth by responding: “Where?”..Good point!!

I moved to Peoria a year ago in Nov.My daughter has six kids ranging from 11-11/2 and home schools. We had to come out here to help (but I kept our house in the Finger Lakes.) Last winter—two weeks when the temp didn’t rise above minus 20. The wind never stops. And it’s as flat as a pancake. I’ll take Raleigh or Fla any day. Another thing—no great anecdotes to tell, like you, but then again you seem to attract them.

I'm watching the Jets it's awful

I hate to say it they are so much better than the Giants. I think if Sanchez ends up being half decent they’ll be really good. They remind me of what the Giants used to be. Run the ball, where the other team down and play great D. They are definatley making the playoffs and will be very good next year.

This has been a terrible year. Obviously the Giants suck but every game I watch the team I want to win always looses. Jets are winning, Dolphins lossing, Jaguars lost, I guarntee Jets beat Colts next week. Ever since December last year football Sundays have been painful.

I still think our running game is better, even if it isn’t statistically.

well

i wouldn’t say they’re all that better than the Giants – it’s pretty close. The question is which gap is larger: the one between the Jets/Giants D, or the one between the Giants/Jets offense? Hard to argue for the Giants there, since the Jets have what is probably the best defense in the NFL.

It's sickening

Watching games such as last night where the Saints scored 17 points vs Dallas while they torched us for 48. Same for watching the Jets. Jets D allowed 10 Saints offensive points. I understand the weather conditions are much different. We allowed 31 vs Falcons while Jets have allowed 3 through three quarters.

How did our D become so bad?

by FrankB0318 on Dec 20, 2009 3:14 PM EST reply actions

plain and simple,

our guys just don’t make plays. we’re not on the same planet as the jets, at least defensively, at this point…. and it’s tough to see us getting there any time soon.

but, just like things never stay perfect for as long as they seem they will, things can get turned around quickly, often without a better explanation than guys simply playing better.

Who the hell can cover D-JAX

As much as we got on the Giants this past week San Fran could not stop nor slow him down. It’s a joke Phlly’s O always was weak on third down especailly third and short now all McNabb does is throw deep to Jackson and he’s wide freaking open. Nobody has slowed Jackson down he’s as dangerous as Fitzgerald was last year I’ve never seen anything like it . . . I don’t think there is a defense out there that can stop him or McNabb it’ll be a rough playoff run this year.

by Landeta on Dec 20, 2009 7:44 PM EST up reply actions

Well he had 2 catches for 9 yards agains the Panthers

1 catch for 1 yard against the Bucs
2 catches for 29 yards against the Cowboys
2 catches for 41 yards against Washington

So yeah, he can be shut down.

The Eagles lost to the Saints (who we beat), they lost to the Raiders (who we beat) and they lost to us (who we are).

by aussie_cowboy on Dec 20, 2009 10:51 PM EST up reply actions

1 catch for 1 yard against the Bucs

They rolled coverage heavily to Jackson, and took their chances with their #2 corner on Jeremy Maclin. What happened? Maclin went for 6 for 142 and 2 TD’s. Plus this game was 28-7 early in the 3rd, and the Eagles took their foot off the gas.

2 catches for 29 yards against the Cowboys

Probably his only sub-par game this year.

2 catches for 41 yards against Washington

It’s worth noting one of those 2 catches was a TD.

If those are the 3 examples of his worst games, where can I sign up for that for his entire career?

The Raiders

aren’t nearly as awful as people like to think… JaMarcus is definitely as bad as advertised, but the rest of the team is not. And you should really get to know Chaz Schilens.

No doubt...

Raiders ARE pretty good.

If Jamacus (not spelling it wrong..) had any sort of QB sense and accuracy (..kinda like Gradkowski) the Raiders would be a team to be reckoned with.

Schilens, Zach Miller, Louis Murphy, there’s some good talent on that roster.

Its not all Jamacus tho…but I would say the Raiders could’ve at least been around 7-9 or even 8-8 if Gradkowski was the QB the whole year (maybe even better….dunno).

I know

but with JaMarcus, I didn’t think they’d go anywhere.

The defense is above average, with two great cornerbacks, mediocre safeties, average linebackers, and a relatively good front four.

A lot of it is the coaching. Didn’t Asoumogua criticize the coaches for being too vanilla on defense?

The offense has a lot of talent, Louis Murphy and Zach Miller are going to be very good.
But it’s all about the QB. A good qb elevates the whole team, defense included, just by being a good leader.

predictions come true

i hate when i predict the outcome of my favorite teams, yes im talking about the jets and the Giants, even when they were wiining i knew the second half of the season was the real test.im glad there in the playoffs and i hope they make it past the first two rounds.this is were things get difficult and hard and they know this,so they should have the advantage over most teams, well see how experience plays out.it good they have a monday night to play this week.little more rest .but monday night is no different than sunday,so CMONMAN,MAN UP.LOVE MY JETAND GIANTS no matter what, new yorkdie hard in paradise.

What I find disturbing...

… is our football hopes and dreams resting on the play of other teams, not our own. We don’t deserve to be in the playoffs because we failed to take care of business when business desperately needed being taken cared of: Chargers. Denver. Eagles. The division, or at least a playoff berth, were there for the taking. But our woefully deficient defense and streaky offense went headlong into operation fail. They don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. We as fans shouldn’t want them in the playoffs, Not if it means praying that Dallas plays down to its worst self. What about our best self? Yes, I wanted the Cowboys to lose, I ALWAYS want the Cowboys to lose. And, yes, I wanted a playoff berth. But the truth is like a rash in the most tender and embarrassing regions: try as you might, you cannot ignore it. The rash: the Giants do not belong in the playoffs.

by ZILLAG on Dec 20, 2009 10:55 PM EST reply actions

Zill...I dunno where you come from sometimes...

have the Giants been playing playoff worthy football?…Hell no.

Yet..if they make the playoffs…how can you say they don’t deserve it?

The 2 teams in the NFC championship game last year…neither deserved it. One went to the SB..and damn near won it (Big Ben proved why you don’t leave time for him again today..)

The Giants get in…they deserved it. They have a chance, just as much as anyone has a chance.

There is no unbeatable team. The Vikings and Saints got exposed. The Giants know what the Eagles have. They know what the Cardinals have. If its the Packers…its the Packers.

I just don’t understand how you say anyone should not want them to make the playoffs.

The Cowboys win was a big blow..yes. IT was the only team they had no chance again (really Dungy, you fool….lost a lot of respect for Dungy for that comment).

But they are just as capable of beating a team like the Saints…and losing to the Redskins and Eagles.

Giants gotta take care of business.

Yes..the games you mentioned..they’d be in a different position. Yet..if they win those games and are 10-3 right now…what the hell is the difference making the playoffs like that or making the playoffs like they’d have to now?

Get into the playoffs….take it from there.

if the playoffs

only existed for the worthy, there’d be no wild card.

hell, you could argue division winners are jokes. do the cards deserve to be in the playoffs by being the best team in a crappy division?

if it were really fair, the NFL would scrap the silly AFC/NFC format and let the teams with the best records go regardless of conference or division.

by cntrlalt on Dec 21, 2009 1:29 AM EST up reply actions

eventually,

they will do that. I cannot wait for this ridiculous scenario: a 6-10 or 7-9 division winner (and yes, that will happen one of these years) makes it into the playoffs over an 11-5 team, and has a HOME GAME against a 13-3 team.

step by step, the NFL will get it right:

1) eliminate automatic home field for division winners; teams with the best records deserve the home playoff games.

2) eliminate automatic playoff berth for division winners; teams with the best records get in.

3) eliminate NFC/AFC separation; teams with the best records get in.

by tulls200 on Dec 21, 2009 9:17 AM EST up reply actions

i don't understand the AFC/NFC distinction

i understand it in baseball, where the two leagues have different rules.

that’s not the case in the NFL, there’s really no reason to have conferences..it just makes the playoffs feel cheap.
why do we need an AFC/NFC superbowl? shouldn’t it be the best two teams, period? would the cards have made it that far if they had to play the steelers earler in the playoffs?

by cntrlalt on Dec 21, 2009 9:49 AM EST up reply actions

true.

The biggest reason I think its there is cuz of the ‘old rivalries’..tho, as I’m sure the older BBVer will tell you that there’s also rivalries in the other conference too with the Giants.

Its also cuz, well look at all the teams that are 7-7 or 8-6 (Giants better be over .500 after tonight…).

What if all those teams (if none play each other…) ended up with the same record?

You need conferences and to a slightly lesser extent..divisions.

I think the NFC/AFC should stay. Also, if you crunched down the divisions into 3 apiece…that’s an extra 2 games playing a division opponent.

Its not the Cardinals fault the rest of the division stinks (tho the Niners will be a tough comp. next year).

I like it. It gives 6 teams in each division a chance.

Overall…if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I had no problem with the ’undeserving Giants winning the SB in 2007….did anyone else?

only started after the leagues merged. Giants-’boys new. Giants, Eagles, ’skins old, etc.

by blue gonz on Dec 21, 2009 3:13 PM EST up reply actions

Basebball didn't start

with different rules. The match up in football is a natural because the leagues were independent rivals before the merger. The same holds true fo BB, i think.

Never thought I'd ever say this...

but thank God for Big Ben. I’ve never liked that he’s gotten more love than Eli cause he walked into a better situation. But today, his team beating GB was HUGE for our boys. Now this game vs the Skins becomes even bigger. We beat them we’re still in good shape as our schedule favors us better than Dallas and GB’s do them. I know one thing, it’s gonna be fun to watch.

Wow...

Carolina beat the hell out of the Vikings. Beat them bad. I said the Vikings were exposed after the Cardinals game…now their arses are really exposed.

The Saints got exposed too.

Giants gotta get into the playoffs…From the top 2, to the Eagles and Cardinals…I don’t see a team the Giants are incapable of beating.

Has Favre

turned into locker room poison (again)? The suspicion arises because of his contretemps with the coach during the last game and the outcome of the game itself. Has he blown out his arm again?

I doubt it...

Brad Childress has always been a fool.

I doubt it.

But losing does give rise to stuff like this.

I agree Free..If we can get in the tournament..

We could go far…but we need to get hot starting tonight in Washington..I don’t know whether these teams are being exposed or just coasting..If they are coasting, then that’s a bad habit and they’ll be easy pick’ins if we can get in there…Tonight’s game worries me..The Skins were already starting to play better..now they have extra motivation to play well, they see the shake-up coming..I don’t see the Eagles beating us again if we make it…but our Defense needs to show up to work..their vacation is over.

The 49-ers..

Their QBs are so bad I don’t even remember their names..This could be an opportunity to deal Carr in the offseason and move up a notch or two in the draft..They will be fishing for one that for sure.

Lets Watch Feagles

I think he has been great over the years , BUT I think his time has come to an end . Looking at his stats over this season , Not much better then a top High School puntr and in some game not even close . He has but the Boys in awfol field position time and time again , when he is putting other teams in short field 40+ its clearly not getting it done . Now the whole team has been poor , but if one person can stand alone and help his team with good field it the punter …nuf said

Hey Bangkok...(that's hard to type with a straight-face...lol!!)..

Yes, Feagles is done after this year..and hopefully Tynes….They belong in an Arena football league somewhere..where the field is only 50 yards long.

Now that is the ultimate dilemna!!lol!!!...

Personally I think my advice would be to go get few and bring them home…You can have them alternate on going to the fridge to get you a beer, and during all of the play reviews you’ll have time for a little hanky-panky..When play resumes just spank’em on the butt and tell them to get you another beer..

Welcome aboard, 55

Lived in W.47 for years; later on W. 96th. Not many other Jets lovers on this site. Lots of haters. Not me. I’m just indifferent about them
