Defense? What defense?

Where was our defense that played with a zealous fire only a week ago? Where was our defense that once swarmed to the ball to make a stop on a screen pass?
We did miss several opportunities. Eli's and Brandon's fumbles were boneheaded mistakes, and we suffered because of them. But I can't recall when our defense EVER stopped the Eagles, with the exception of the interception. I mean, the Eagles really stopped themselves: McNabb threw a couple of bad passes to wide open guys on a few third downs, and they weren't completed for first downs, but those weren't really wins by our defense. You say "Well I'll take a stop any way I can get it!" Well good for you - to me the defense outrightly SUCKED and I'd wager that the Valdosta High School Wildcats offense could score against the Giants' defense. I'm offended to even call it a defense at this point.
I surely hope the defense that played the Cowboys shows up again, and really soon. Or else it's back to the drawing board.

the D looked awful.
the Giants’ D is actually not bad, allowing 307 yds/game (9th best in the NFL), but they give up a shitload of points (obviously part of that is on the ST and offense), because their D seems to give up a huge number of ‘big’ plays. the Jints allow 25.4 pts/game, 5th worst in the NFL (the only teams worse are the pathetic Lions, Bucs, Rams & Chiefs).
a big part of that is the atrocious Red Zone D (last in the NFL). what to do? is Bill Sheridan the long-term answer at DC? will he return next year?
sure, there’ve been a lot of injuries (KP, AP, Ross, Boley, Canty, etc.), but they still have plenty of talent to have at least a solid D. what is going on?
Other teams
have had numerous injuries and those teams still play the game, and even make plays.
I’d say the Red Zone D is atrocious. I’m just sick of seeing 3rd and 9, with an easy, wide open receiver making the first down.
I’m sick of seeing 3rd and 15, only to end up being a TD.
It happens repeatedly and is completely unacceptable.
Osi runs 20 yards past the quarterback, maybe hoping to somehow shoot back up and get him. But he goes so far around and back, by the time he’d make it to the QB, the pass would’ve left the QB’s hand 2 seconds prior to.
The line just rarely got any kind of a push.
When I hear about talent, that smacks of that dreaded word “Potential”. Ron Dixon had it. Sinorice Moss had it. And at least in both of those cases, that potential never was fulfilled.
Sheridan is as lost as an acorn in tall grass.
We didn't even have a chance for the "perfect season", but we did have the perfect ending.

Giant D DID stop them..plenty of times.
The Giants D held up more than the Eagles D actually.
We forced turnovers.
Goff INT. Boley…cluster FK play.
THOSE 2!! We gave the ball back or they retained possesion.
The Giants keep the ball ON THOSE 2 TURNOVERS CREATED BY THE DEFENSE…..different game.
No…get a replay of this game.
There were plays made by the defense. They stopped them a few key drives on 3rd down.
The offense…Jacobs fumble. Eli fumble after Goff’s INT. Boley cluster FK play.
…the defesne…all in all….gotta say, its not to blame here. They didn’t stop the Eagles after these plays…yes.
But….They held up more than the Eagles defense did. I KNOW THAT.

but god dammit…the defense is NOT the big problem from THIS GAME.

I’ll add the Kevin Boss drop in at the 20 yard line. The ensuing play was the stupid 3rd down draw.
Then they punt.
Then…the Eagles drive down for the 45th points.
…AND WHY ARE WE ON THE DEFENSE FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!??????
Yes..defense..has to stop them. I know that. A good D…holds them.
Yet…The Giants gotta get points out of a drive where they march down the field themselves.
The Eagles didn’t stop the Giants either….the Giants stopped the Giants.
The Giants D stopped the Eagles more than the Eagles D stopped the Giants.

I'm going to put up a few points
A: the defense gave up 31 points
B: McNabb had loads of time and could have done a jig like jackson did most of the time and not get touched
C: First Lead of the day, first offensive play is a TD
As much as I want to believe our defense is better than this, they haven’t shown it to me. You know me, I’m one of the most optimistic people on the board. I still think the defense can get better and maybe sheridan gets out of the BS.
But there’s nothing but homerism suggesting that.
Nothing would make me happier than to be proved wrong. But I don’t see the defense getting ultra better.
I still think we can win games, but it won’t be in typical giant fashion (lots of shoot outs, which thankfully the redskins and panthers are ill-equipped for)
Never assume skill at bouncing a ball makes you smarter than the guy who built the court.

as I said we missed several opportunities on offense, whatwith the fumbles and all.
I think they punted 4 times, and I know for a fact that on TWO of those prior third down attempts, the Eagles had WRs WIDE OPEN and McNabb just didn’t get it to them.
Sorry, but that’s not a stop by us. They beat themselves on both of those attempts.
I say that to say this – If we can only stop a team on two drives in the game, then the defense is having major problems. Define it as you will, but they essentially sucked the other night. The answer? Hell I have no idea what the right answer is.
And I never said they shouldn’t have won the game; I felt like we had every opportunity to win.
We didn’t capitalize, and our defense has rarely done that this year. It is what it is.

but I just watched the TiVo of the game..I have no idea why…but it pissed me off to see all the missed opportunities they had.
Its just, when replaying the game, the defense is not as bad as the score and some people made it out to seem.
Giants of old? No.
But the potential is there to be decent.
Our offense is very good…yet, shoots themselves in the foot.

the defense wasn’t that much improved against Dallas either (well the run defense was but were talking about passing) It was Romo in december missing wide open targets down the field that lost them that game

Its Over for the G-men
I’m sorry fellow fan , but I just can’ t listen to the game anymore . Living here in Thailand my one big sports excitement has been being able to follow our team every week . With the time difference being 12 hours ahead of you all ., that ment getting up at 1am or 4am to catch the games on the net . I am embrassed for our team , the defence is in the toilet the DC needs more time to mature ..with another team not ours . We are to proud to be beaten like this week in and week out. Alot of changes need to be made in the off season . But reading all the blogs , what about looking at our punter . He has not gotten the job done , S@#$% punt leaving dab field position , I think his performance has been no better then a good High School Kid . He was good but I thing his time is up . So good luck friends no more pissed off mornings for me . Will follow the of season and pray for the best for next year …
