Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

Eagles coach Andy Reid, post-game, 12.13.09

Maclin tore his plantar fascia. That’s a week or two injury so we’ll see how he does as we go, but he’ll be fine. My hat’s off to the Giants. That was a heck of a football game. Obviously, they were very well coached. Tom Coughlin, I have the utmost respect for. It was a knock down, drag out battle. I’m proud of my guys. I’m proud of my coaches. It was a good game plan. I know they had a couple yards, but the Eagles had a couple yards too. It all equaled out between special teams, offense, and defense. DeSean Jackson and Donovan had a nice quick connection there that kind of got us back a little bit of the momentum. The ninety-whatever yard drive, that was important. It was a heck of a game.

Q: You led the whole game and then they come back and take the lead and you re-gain it with one play. How big was that to get the momentum back and respond that way?

A: It was a heck of a call by Marty [Mornhinweg]. DeSean was feeling it and he was bugging me the whole time on the sideline that he wanted the ball in a good way. So we gave him the ball.

Q: Where does his punt return rank?

A: I hate to say this, but I didn’t see it. I was back talking to the defense. But I feel it was pretty good.

Q: What did the officials tell you at the end of the first half?

A: That’s out of my hands. They just said that that was a non-reviewable situation. I imagine he was talking about seeing how much time was left on the clock.

Q: What was the message to your defense about the missed tackles?

A: The guys played hard. We have to do a better job of wrapping up, keeping our heads up, and running through the tackles. Listen, it wasn’t a lack of effort or anything else, or enthusiasm. I was real happy with the way the offense supported the defense and the defense supported the offense. Eli Manning is a terrific player and so is their offense. Coach Gilbride does a heck of a job with that offense.

Q: Was there any added energy from the fact that Dallas lost?

A: I don’t like the guys to look at it. I think they heard about it, but they didn’t watch the game. They knew Dallas lost. I don’t know how much energy that did or didn’t give them. Most of the focus was on the Giants, no matter what happened with the Dallas game and that’s the way it should be.
