Proper Respect

I heard it said somewhere that the quality of a team is determined by the quality of its competition, and the quality of the Giants last night was oustanding. Like many football games, one bounce, one play and that game could have gone the other way - so much the more last night.

Last night I was very proud of the Eagles, not because they won a football game, but because the won a game against a great team that played great.  It was one of he most exciting games I have ever seen. As a die-hard Eagles fan I thought it was appropriate to give your team their proper respect. Your team battled with greatness and tenacity last night and, with the quality of the rookies on both teams, it looks like we are all in for years of incredible competition.

With repect,

IggleGreen

nice of you

I guess the Eagles just really have our number. If we didn’t give up several freakish touchdowns we’d a been a contendah.

You play to win the game!

I don't know what you are talking about

a great team excels in all categories, and our D and ST SUCK. I appreciate your respect, but you are misplacing it at this time.

by brisulph on Dec 14, 2009 8:30 AM EST reply actions

I agree.

People wanna say the Giants suck….well, the immediate reaction to the D and ST of course, yea, it looked that way.

BUT, the Eagles are an explosive team, mainly, Desean Jackson is out of this world fast.

He’s the OTHER Steve Smith, the fastest player in the league at one point…Steve Smith, maybe even better.

The Giants couldn’t contain him on defense. They figured out Celek a bit, but not Jackson.

Lotta ifs for the Giants tho..gotta say. I wanna play the Eagles again this season. I don’t wanna leave this one as the last game our matchups this year.

The Giants defense sucked in this game.

No two ways around it. One of the most pathetic displays I’ve seen in some time.

The Giants don’t suck, but their defense DID.

We didn't even have a chance for the "perfect season", but we did have the perfect ending.

the D does suck.

the Eagles are good but not spectacular

and somehow our team has a way of making them look like the greatest show on turf

You play to win the game!

I was at the game

and it was SPECTACULAR!

The Giants fans were walking out at the end saying it was terrible. Win or lose, any game that comes down to an onside kick with 1:30 left in the game, is a good football game to watch.

Zany! A Jeremiah Trotter interception, that just bounces back into the hands of a Giants receiver!?! A quick dump off to a pass-blocking Ahmad Bradshaw while being thrown to the ground for a big gain!!?!? An almost safety, with a random, ugly, falling completion to move the ball out of the endzone!?!

This game was awesome!

"What did it feel like? That collision, I didn't feel nothing, because he was pretty much defenseless. It was like running through a cardboard box. Seriously. Cardboard box."- Sheldon Brown on his pounding of Reggie Bush in the '06 Playoffs

I know I would.

But I’d be disappointed AND it would be nice to see a Giants fan stop by Bleeding Green Nation to show some Proper Respect, had that occurred.

As an example, last years NFC Championship game where the Iggles lost to the Cards was a great game.

BTW, both defenses weren’t playing up to standard last night. Shame. But I don’t think it would have been as exciting a game if they were.

by IggleGreen on Dec 14, 2009 12:21 PM EST up reply actions

I gave my respect last night

The Eagles played a better game overall (ie they got contributions from mroe areas of the team) than the Giants, so they earned it.

by brisulph on Dec 14, 2009 12:50 PM EST up reply actions

Thanks for that.

With all the good young players on both teams, I think the East will be a beast for a long time coming. It did our Division proud when you guys won the Super Bowl.

+1

that was a frustrating loss.
I’m glad we’ll all take it like men and condone that the better team won.

Unlike those cowboy fans…

Never assume skill at bouncing a ball makes you smarter than the guy who built the court.

I've been trying too..

yet, I’m annoyed that they still think Eli is overrated……its all “eagles D collapsed”…and they make fun of Cowboy fans…..that’s is stereotype Cowboy fan loss talk.

Proper respect yes….but maybe respect a bit of who they defeated? How do you call Eli overrated anymore?

….what will it take?

Playoff win?

Hmmmmmmmm…..gimme the Eagles in the playoffs, por favor Football Gods?

I'll take them again

But I think we match up better vs arizona.

I’d actually like to face the packers, but we can’t as a wild card team.

eli played impressively. I think most eagles fans realize he’s an above competent QB. We just think he’s overrated because the national media likes to talk about him and his brother at the same time, and mentioning them in the same sentence is crazy when you’re discussing QBs. He played really well…I was getting frustrated as he was making ridiculous plays. I thought for sure he was throwing the ball away when he was being tackled in the end zone, but I guess he knew his guys routes (or he got super lucky).

I think Eli is a good QB (that hurts to say).

by eagleyosh on Dec 15, 2009 11:59 AM EST up reply actions

yea..

that throw to Boss…he’s done that a couple times, so while it looks lucky…its probably more that he knows where his guys are (also..luck there was no defender out there.

I agree, when you talk about his brother..his brother is the GOAT.

It just is annoying that even after games like Sunday…where people wanna bring up his career QB rating and one frickin catch (Tyree catch that is…) and that’s their basis on how he’s overrated.

Thanks for dropping by and congrats with the win

It seemed like an odd week leading up to this game for the importance in the standings and all things considered. A lot of banter between BBV and BGN would likely be magnified, but it was civil as much as it could’ve been.

Though each team has their failures, sometimes it’s the logical fans that keeps everything into perspective!

by Hootman on Dec 14, 2009 3:08 PM EST reply actions

Thanks

it was a good game but just like in the past there is one guy that we have no answer for. It used to be Westbrook and now it is Jackson….

One of his catches the Giants had Goff trying to cover a zone and he ran right behind Goff and Jackson made the catch to move the chains yet again.

We started to get some momentum and I thought the tide was going to shift and you guys ran one play and scored 7 points….so demoralizing

Nice win and I hope we dont see you again this year…

Actually

to get where we want to be, we may have to face them again. Here’s to hoping the third times the charm. Good game Sunday night.

by njgiant on Dec 15, 2009 1:14 PM EST up reply actions

I hear ya

but it is just so frustrating watching this defense against a team like the iggles who are so explosive and can score on 1 play whenever they want. Well it seems that way…

You are right if we expect to make a run in the playoffs if we can make it in, we most likely will have to face the iggles again…. it will be a very tough road

by GiantRB27 on Dec 16, 2009 9:06 AM EST up reply actions

I can't stand the Eagles

but that’s because they’re a tough team and a constant pain in the arse. I must admit, that offense is nice. Djack is just a monster. For the life of me, I can’t see why we didn’t double this guy. The Eagles and the Saints are the closest thing to a video game. You watch these two offenses and it’s like someone has a controller in their hands just waiting to hit the O button or in Djack’s case, R2(turbo button).

by njgiant on Dec 16, 2009 10:10 AM EST up reply actions

they are good, but

we make them look like the marriage of the 85 Bears defense to the 2007 Patriots offense… it makes me sick to think of all those battery-throwing, santa-booing, neck-injury cheering fans chortling with glee thinking they’re as good as the Giants make them look

You play to win the game!

by Simms-McConkey on Dec 17, 2009 2:23 PM EST up reply actions

For me,

I would really prefer NOT to see that offense of yours again until next year. For crying out loud, Boss and Nicks, to start with, and then there was Jacobs who is a tank, and what was up with Eli? Did you see him slipping sure sacks, left and right? I don’t watch the Giants too often but that didn’t seem like typical Elii to me.

On one of those plays he looked just like Donovan (that was a compliment). He’s about to be crushed from the blind side and without looking, seemingly unaware of impending doom, takes one step forward and makes our end fly off into space like a cartoon. (Our fans pick on Donovan too, but he’s uncannily tough to take down in the backfield – well except for that ONE terriible game against ‘a certain NY team’, that I shudder to mention…)

Yeah, Sunday night’s 500 yards of Offense was enough of Giants for me for the rest of the season.

McRibs and Romo

have to be two of the best at avoiding the sack. McNabb has that strong lower body and Romo is just slippery. I think these two QBs are the best at extending a play and turning sheer disaster into a long gain or TD.

by njgiant on Dec 16, 2009 10:13 AM EST up reply actions

McNabb

is like 6’8 400 pounds

You play to win the game!

by Simms-McConkey on Dec 17, 2009 2:24 PM EST up reply actions

LOL...

Guy has the lower body of an O lineman. He’s tuff 4 sure.

by njgiant on Dec 17, 2009 5:36 PM EST up reply actions

Actually igglegreen....

that is typical Eli.

The reason they had so many pass yards was cuz of the big broken tackle plays…but yea, slipped sacks, passes on the money…that’s Eli Manning.

Yes, he has his clunkers. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about, your QB McNabb has his clunkers too.

Eli is on like that when him and his OC are on the same page. The biggest thing that helped was Jacobs running even moderately effective. When the running was the threat it was Sunday…Eli can be unstoppable.

When teams rush 3 and put 8 in coverage, like Denver did alot…compounded by teh running game being a pile of crap, that’s when Eli doesn’t do well, cuz no one respects the run, and stops it easily too. Not many QB’s CAN overcome that sort of thing (his brother…probably the only one in the game)
