3-4 again
Hey guys... id just like to point out that the Osi situation reminds me alot of elvis dumervil in Denver. He tried playing DE in the 4-3 and he was helpful rushing the QB but they ran the ball right at him every play. Same deal with Osi. I seiously think putting him as an OLB would rejuvinate him.
Plus with the offense looking set, except maybe backup OL were going to redo the defense in the draft and FA anyway so maybe this would actually help out are existing player (except tuck but i still think hell succeed)
Projected depth chart after switch:
RE: Chris Canty, Jay Alford
NT: Fred Robbins or FA/DP (Cofeild?)
LE: Justin Tuck, Barry Cofield
LOLB: Mathias Kiwanuka, Clint Sintim
RILB: Antonio Pierce, Danny Clark
LILB: Johnathon Goff, Bryan Kehl
ROLB: Osi, Sintim
I decided to put Osi and Canty on the same side because i think Canty's departure has hurt Demarcus Wares sack count
I dunno where our back up LB would fit in... Wilkinson and blackburn and dave tollfenson on the DLINE
and i really think that casey hamptons going to be a FA and he can be a 1-2 year stopgap for us to develop a NT
or we can

I stated how it may work.
This time…NO, I can see how its not gonna work at all.
A team like GB switched so well, cuz they had a ton of 320lb+ DT’s, a lot of LB’s who are excellent, big and fast too.
But the primary reason was ball-hawking CB’s and safeties. Nick Collins, Al Harris, Charles Woodson, the GIants don’t have these sort of players.
They’re running a 4-3.
Only thing that will help is an experience DC in it.
I think the talent is still here, and they all are 4-3 guys.

How come no one covers Steve Smith?
3-4? For starters, i don't believe we have the NT for it
Just given our DT’s as a whole: Alford, Bernard, Cofield, Robbins and perhaps Canty, does this description fit any of them…?
The consummate wide-bodied run stuffer. Demands a double-team on every down and fights through them. A natural two-gap tackle who can also play the nose. Has a burst off the snap and some body control, making him dangerous as a pass rusher. An alert defender who reads screens and makes smart decisions. Intense, hard working, and coachable.
This is an asset description of Vince Wilfork of the Patriots. I hardly see any of our DT’s doing that, even in our 4-3 with a man advantage.
We may have a couple of existing parts to work with in a 3-4 transition, but IMO, it’s leaning toward more of an overhaul than a simple case of getting this player or that player. For the time being, i think we’ll stick with the 4-3!
yeah dude
you’re just sticking players out of their natural positions all over the place. You have a defensive mind on a par with Bill Sheridan.
You play to win the game!

OK how about trading OSi
To a team running the 3-4?
why would a team running the 3-4 want Osi?

Personally speaking
Theres no team in their right mind that runs the 3-4 at this time, would want Osi, especially as a LB. He’s too one-dimensional and sucks at the point of attack in the run game. This goes without saying about his coverage skills (?), another story!
Why stop at just 3-4 teams?
If the price is right, any team would be suitable. At this time, were buying low. Osi needs to go on a tear to get his value back up!
Why should we trade our best pass rusher?
Seems counter – productive for a team that prides it self on pressuring the qb

he;s the Giants best pass rusher.
The whole team can’t rush the passer…but Osi’ leading the team in sacks.

Then we should trade Tuck and Kiwanuka as well
They are even less productive at that

So, I just watched divisional game between the Giants and 49ers in 86
And there is no way we have the guys for a 3-4. It required real tough OLB’s that can take on a OT head on and push him back into the backfield and ILB’s that are flying to the ball and are great tacklers. Our LB’s are neither, Kiwi and Osi are both way too soft and Sintim, while he did play a 3-4 in college just doesn’t feel like the type of guy that can be a successful 3-4 OLB either.
The teams that are the most successful with a 3-4 now are the same. The cowboys have Ware and Spencer who are both monsters that can blow up the blockers any day, the Steelers have Harrison and Woodley to do the same.
Thats the type of guys you need physical freaks that are tough. We don’t have that, but our guys are perfect for a 4-3. We just need a coach that knows what he is doing and safeties that aren’t awful and this defense will be able to take us back to the promise land
