Killing our selves with this one.

HAM has to put feet in bounds.

Boley has to make that play.

Plays are there for us.

D can’t stop them, gotta make plays when they are there.

Pitiful defense.

agreed, re: taking what the opponent is giving you...

…like i said, we’ve left a lot of points out there on the field, and can’t afford to do this against a team that is marching down the field on us and scoring at will

by Step up and make big plays on Dec 13, 2009 10:11 PM EST up reply actions

I counted 7

yes, 7, catchable balls in the first half the Giants did not make plays on. So, don’t anybody come killing Eli. He’s 10-of-18 at the half w/7 throws his receivers could or should have caught. Plus, the Boley play ends up being a 14-point swing.
Have to make the big plays to win.

by Ed Valentine on Dec 13, 2009 10:12 PM EST up reply actions

Eli should be 18-18.

I counted 8

Manningham has to come in bounds with that.

ITs tough…but you gotta do it.

the ball he threw out of the end zone over Smith's head?

no way that was catchable, even if Smith was standing on Ramses’ shoulders

Is it Sheridan's fault

Jackson is faster than Rouse? Or, that Boley could not make that play? The only bad call he made the entire half was rushing three right before half on the completion to Celek.

Almost identical stats for the first half

G-Men slightly better on the ground. Hope it doesn’t come down to the BJ fumble return .. they scored and we lost a possession. There’s your 14 points. Hope Bye-Dawk was wrong earlier in the weekend in predicting that whoever won the 1st 1/4 would win the ball game.

On the non-picked up fumble

I have a feeling they would have overturned it if the Giants had picked it up. Still a bad play, and the coaches have to coach to pick it up after a whistle.

by Mount17 on Dec 13, 2009 10:17 PM EST reply actions

The entire coaching staff needs to go.

I’m not saying this out of emotion due to the 1st half debacle. Let’s analyze this situation. Our O coordinator has been under fire for 3 seasons. Our red zone offense during that period is one of the worst in the league. We are too predictable.

This season our D is terrible. It’s one thing if it was from lack of talent. Our defense misses so many assignments. Receivers run wild. Dbacks allow receivers to run right by them. That’s on the coaching. How do players not know their assignments are 3/4 of the season.

Our special teams is terrible. It’s been terrible for years.

All this falls on Tom. He’s the head coach. He’s gotta be held accountable for the debacle we’ve seen this season and past seasons. Even 207. We got hot soen the stretch. We were a 500 team the 2nd half of that season.

by FrankB0318 on Dec 13, 2009 10:17 PM EST reply actions

this ain't Tom/

this is one Jacobs fumble.

And one punt return away from a Giants lead.

by FreeBradshaw on Dec 13, 2009 10:19 PM EST up reply actions

it is Tom

this team is poorly coached. Offense, defense and special teams. Too many errors. Too many missed assignments.

by FrankB0318 on Dec 13, 2009 10:20 PM EST up reply actions

in all fairness...

…Jacobs fumble is more to Cole’s credit, and someone else’s fault for not putting a body on him. It was a hell of a hustle play to hit him from behind just right to pop that ball out. Jake couldn’t sense him.

by Step up and make big plays on Dec 13, 2009 10:20 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed

but every facet of the team sucks. Our offense is good. Offensively, I mean our red zone play calling. Gilbride is terrible. Year after year we have one of the worst red zone offenses in the league.

of our team that’s well coached. Yes, we have a great offense from the 20s. Once inside the 20s we’re too predictable with no imagination.

the crazy thing about this game

is that the Giants played about as bad as they can play on defense and special teams and dropped a ton of passes, yet they only lost by 7 in a game where the Eagles scored 14 points off a fluke fumble recovery and a punt return.

I don't believe that

when you’re as predictable as our offense and you constantly leave the safeties 1 on 1 against some of the fastest NFL players ever you know its not just the players

by mclaren_is_the_best on Dec 14, 2009 12:01 AM EST up reply actions

SMH

They didn’t leave the safeties one on one, that was a blown coverage. Blown coverages are on the players…not the coaches. The Giants defensive players have not been making plays all year. Where has Tuck been with the rush? Osi? Canty’s name wasn’t called all night. When a quarterback has 4, 5 and 6 seconds to throw the ball, of course he’s going to find someone open.

by DaWriter on Dec 14, 2009 12:04 AM EST up reply actions

they were too busy playing coverage

because sheridan was awful like always.
and if there are so many blown coverages why aren’t we playing man coverage like we have been for the last decade?

by mclaren_is_the_best on Dec 14, 2009 12:05 AM EST up reply actions

Slow Down

The defense didn’t give up 45 points. 14 of those points came on the fumble return for a touchdown and the punt return for a touchdown. Take those points away (which you can’t) and we win the game. Head to head, our defense outplayed their offense and our offense outplayed their defense. Without the special teams touchdown and the defensive touchdown…this game goes differently….

by DaWriter on Dec 13, 2009 11:54 PM EST reply actions

Your defense

Sucked tonight. That was one of the worst displays of safety play you will ever see in a game. Jackson was open all night tonight deep and if Maclin hadn’t been hurt he would have been too.

It was piss-poor defense on both sides.

Giants’ had one of the worst displays of safety play you will see in an NFL game and McNabb got too bomb happy. Eagles’ defense had their worst tackling of the year and their d-line got their a$$es handed to them tonight.

by MG77 on Dec 13, 2009 11:57 PM EST up reply actions

you clearly don't watch the Giants much

the safeties looked like some combination of Ronnie Lott, Troy Polamalu, and Ed Reed compared to how they looked against the Saints and even the first game against the Eagles.

by cjmulrain on Dec 13, 2009 11:59 PM EST up reply actions

What game were you watching??

The Eagles secondary got TORCHED. If Hakeem Nicks catches the first or second ball, they don’t even miss those tackles for the touchdown because he would have already scored. The Giants receivers were getting open deep all night…the different was that the Eagles was able to get pressure on Eli at times…but even then, 391 yards and 3 touchdowns is NOT just a bad defense…that’s a good quarterback…

by DaWriter on Dec 14, 2009 12:02 AM EST up reply actions

Nah, defense doesn't get it that easy

Odds show they probably would have given something up on the possession if Jackson doesn’t take it back. That last TD drive was a bitch slap.

by FrankB0318 on Dec 14, 2009 12:00 AM EST up reply actions

NOT. EVEN. CLOSE

sorry for the caps, but I’m literally yelling this.

The tackle eligible is not a terrible call – it works for the Patriots a lot, and for a team like the Giants that never runs it, you’d expect him to be wide open. The Eagles sniffed it out, so kudos to them. But when you factor in that the Giants eventually scored on that possession, on a scale of 1 to 10, that doesn’t even rate when compared to the 3rd and 5 call

"[The Giants] beat us down. We were beat by a grown-man team, a team we want to be like one day. They came in here and took it to us. Out-manned us, out-gunned us. ... It wasn't even close." - Raheem Morris, 9/27/09

sorry, but I am going to have to disagree here...

…I don’t think that you can rely on hindsight to say whether or not a play was a good call or not. Each play should be able to be examined objectively for its own merits, and situationally as well.

Had we success with this type of play before, then sure, it’s a great call. Not the game nor situation to trot it out, IMO. Kevin Booth is not Jumbo Elliott. Punch it in with someone who has been there before.

by Step up and make big plays on Dec 14, 2009 12:15 AM EST up reply actions

but maybe they've been running this play in practice all week

and maybe Boothe has awesome hands. How do you know? The way you’re talking, any time any team tries a new play for the first time it’s a terrible play.

What if, instead of Boothe, it was Ramses Barden in there? They’ve never tried to go to him before, either. What about the first time they threw it to Hakeem Nicks? Was that a bad play decision? Was it a bad play decision the first time Parcells had Simms throw it to Jumbo?

but again

they did punch it in, AND we KILL Gilbride for never mixing it up, and then we kill him when he DOES mix it up. I have absolutely 0 problem with that playcall, and in fact hope they use it again in the future

Exactly

That 3rd and 5 play call completely changed the game. Because if Eli and the offense goes down to score on that drive, we’re back up by one and the ballgame is different. This was one of those games where the team that has the ball last is probably going to win…only problem is…you can’t be down by two scores.

Manningham needs to work on keeping his feet in bounds. He messed up a great throw and what would have been a touchdown catch by not knowing where he was on the field…I see what he needs to work on…

Too many missed opportunities

For what it was, which is a devastating loss, that was one HELL of a game. Desean Jackson is a f—-ing beast that we are going to have to deal with for a long time, unfortunately. The big plays killed us, as we figured they would…..

by tulls200 on Dec 13, 2009 11:56 PM EST reply actions

Agreed

And the Giants are far from done either because the ’Boys are entering their patented “el foldo” December routine. Boys are likely to lose next week and I know the Eagles would love nothing more than to knock those losers out of the playoffs for the 2nd time in 3 years.

by MG77 on Dec 13, 2009 11:59 PM EST up reply actions

So let's look at the future

-Skins are playing inspired D for the most part.
-Panthers are cheating by not playing Delhomme, so that sucks.
-Vikings almost always beat us.

I am not liking our chances.

by brisulph on Dec 14, 2009 12:00 AM EST reply actions

Defense stinks I mean really really stinks

I mean awful, they can’t pass rush at all. I’ve been on SHeridan but they just don’t have talent. Injuries may or may not be affecting Tuck. Kiwi is average at best. COfiedl is below average and Canty might be one of the worst signings in Giants history.

LBS suck, all of them they’re slow and they suck

Saftey, words can’t describe how bad those guys suck. CB’s are OK not great.

by Landeta on Dec 14, 2009 12:01 AM EST reply actions

in Canty's defense...

…his injury is difficult to return from because as a lineman you use your calves to drive and get that explosive first push. I have a torn calf muscle myself right now and it is horribly nagging…

Sorry, but the 3rd and 5 isn't the one that killed it...

…you could select any number of plays prior, namely any Jackson TD or Eli’s unforced fumble inside the Eagles’ 20 that put us in that lousy position where the 3rd and 5 was a matter of life and death

by Step up and make big plays on Dec 14, 2009 12:02 AM EST reply actions

If Bill Sheridan isn't handed a pink slip tomorrow, I'm going apeshit

He has completely ripped the heart and soul out of this defense

by Syler on Dec 14, 2009 12:02 AM EST reply actions

Also....

I’ll add this.

Bill Sheridan is not at fault.

They stopped the Eagles at times…but the offense didn’t capitalize (INT by Goff…)

Eli….for all the stats…that was another big bad play.

Oh stop it

The defense played like sh-t and anyone with two eyes can see that

DeSean Jackson was wide open all night and we didn’t sack McNabb at all

by Syler on Dec 14, 2009 12:04 AM EST up reply actions

maybe cuz...

they never sack McNabb?

Maybe cuz….Desean Jackson is impossible to cover?

Maybe they lost cuz of….2 plays that weren’t the defense?

Maybe cuz …..Boley has to make an easy INT?

"It ain't over till its over"---

How come no one covers Steve Smith?

by FreeBradshaw on Dec 14, 2009 12:06 AM EST up reply actions

that wasn't an easy INT

if he had made that play it would have been an awesome play, but making a shoestring catch on a deflected ball is never easy

I know its not easy.

Either were Manningham’s piles of crap.

But you know what? You gotta make it.

You gotta.

"It ain't over till its over"---

by FreeBradshaw on Dec 14, 2009 12:09 AM EST up reply actions

huge difference

Manningham’s a wide receiver whose sole job is to catch balls, and a big part of that is being able to drag your feet. Boley is a linebacker who might occasionally get a chance to intercept a ball, but you can’t fault him for not making what would have been a great play.

I know...

you can’t…

but…you just have to make that play.

When its in your hands…your cupped hands…it hits your palms.

YOU GOTTA MAKE THE CATCH.

Read: I’m not saying he gets the pick 6 (Which was possible…).

I don’t care how, you gotta get that one. You just have to.

It wasn’t zone coverage when brady was airing it at the end of sb42, it wasn’t zone coverage when webster got the int in the nfccg, in wasn’t zone coverage when leonard marshall knocked joe montana out of the nfccg in 1990.

It wasn’t zone coverage when brucie johnson was on jackson the one time mcnabb didn’t connect with him either

by mclaren_is_the_best on Dec 14, 2009 12:12 AM EST up reply actions

they don't run it all the time....

and don’t talk about 2007.

They got a pass rush, so its easy to play man D.

They can’t play Man, cuz no one gets to the QB.

you think someone can man up with him?

What about Celek?

Can’t focus on DJAX with man and a safety over the top.

Celek burnt Boley/Kehl too.

You also got their other weapons out there.

Sheridan is one thing….your big money FA not doing what he was payed big money to do…is another.

It is partially BS's fault

the defense is poorly coached. They miss way too many assignments. That’s partially on the coaches for not having the players ready. we’re in week 14. There’s no excuse for this many blown assignments.

Hey guys

Great game even tho both defenses were pretty non-existent. Refs played bad on both sides and I wasn’t a fan of the scuffle at the end, no need for that. Don’t like injuries and I can’t say I know how much you value ur RG that went out but hopefully its only minor. Can’t say im not happy my eagles won but great game. Hope you guys make it over the cowboys.

by Team Serbia on Dec 14, 2009 12:06 AM EST reply actions

If the Cowboys go 1-2

the Giants just have to go 2-1. Very, very do-able against the Panthers, Redskins, and sure to be resting Vikings. I know things don’t look pretty right now, but this is far from over.
