Good bar in NYC to watch the game Sunday

Hey everyone, I'm going to be in Manhattan on business starting Sunday, and will have the afternoon off. I'll be in the vicinity of 7th Ave and 54th Street. Is there somewhere around there to watch the game with my fellow Big Blue fans? I heard Mickey Mantle's is alright, as is Tonic. I don't want to go to some lame bar with 2 TVs and a bunch of people who don't care about the game. I want to be with real Giants fans. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Stonewall Inn...

Really the one and ONLY place to go see a Giants game in the city.

depends on what kind of vibe you're looking for

tonic is a bit overpriced and you wind up with the times square tourist crowds.

my advice? go down to soho or the lower east side and just walk around till you find a place you like.

First thing...

…get away from the tourist trap in midtown. You won’t find any real New Yorkers at any bar in that area.

How right you are.

I used to live on W 47th bet 8th and 9th (I left the City in ’78.) Things were jumping then. I was in NYC a year ago this past Sept. and took a stroll around the old neighborhood. Yikes, what changes and your right…Tourist City. Sure there were always some tourists out and about but not like now. And all those great old bars? Office buildings now. And so many related to finance. Escape from lower Manhattan after 9/11?

In all seriousness this time...

You might want to consider taking the PATH train into Hoboken – Very easy to get to.

You can’t throw a stone in any direction without hitting a bar packed full of Giants fans in Hoboken.

Tonic

So just to update, I ended up going to Tonic. Good crowd, a lot of Saints fans for some reason. 6 huge projector screens above the bar, with lots of flat screens around the perimeter. I was lucky to find a seat at the bar, and didn’t move until the game was over, except for bathroom breaks. Crowd was fun, had some good conversations with different fans. Beer was a little pricey, but that was expected. I would recommend this place if you are in the area and wanna watch a game in a nice atmosphere.
