Going to Giants Stadium for 1st time

Crazy as it may sound, I am going to the Meadowlands Dec. 6 for the first time in my life, to see the Giants play the Dallas Cowpies. Don't blame me, I've always been poor and my pops never brought me. But I made a major campaign to my wife about Giants Stadium closing this year, and so for my sort of combined birthday and Christmas present, off we go. I am going with my wife, a close friend who is a Cowgirls fanatic, and his wife.

Star-divide

Rather than try to ask a bunch of questions, would you guys please just give me all the lowdown on traveling to Giants Stadium from CT, parking, tailgating, the stadium, & etc? I'm not too interested in nearby bars or restaurants, just logistical information about getting to, being at, and coming from the game.

Not to dwell on the negative, but what are the chances my friend gets a beer tossed on his Cowpies jersey? If we fight, will we be arrested or just ejected from the Stadium? Could this possibility also affect my ability to go to the NEW Giants Stadium? I love my boy but if it means I can never go again I will stand idly by while he gets stomped. (just kidding.)

Lastly, if any regulars here are going to be at the game, maybe we can either meet up for some tailgating or at a beer booth at halftime.

Thanks in advance for all of your tips & advice.

ive been several times the last few years and its a great experience

first of all, if youre planning on tailgating, a parking pass is a NECESSITY. if you dont have a parking pass, theyll force you to park in some corporate parking lot where youre not allowed to tailgate and you have to take a bus to the stadium…NOT fun. as for the fighting, you will without a doubt be ejected from the game, i dont know about arrests. i would definitely try and avoid violence at all costs. your cowboys friend isnt likely to get anything thrown at him, but he’ll have more than a few obscenities thrown his way. i live in central jersey so im not sure how to get to the stadium from the north, but i think the turnpike south is probably your best bet. i hope this was of some help to you, and enjoy the game!

thanks GRS.

I believe we’re buying these 4 tix with parking pass, for $620.

I will certainly do anything I can to avoid violence. I just hope nobody crosses the line with D, and if they do that he can just laugh it off!

You play to win the game!

Never been

but then I am north of the border and it is not easy getting tix anyway. Would love to take my dad to a game though. Enjoy it man, not all of us live close enough to go, so do it for those that can not!

North of the border?

Its harder for some of us. I live in Aus. We had a game here once: Chargers vs Broncos, but I was about 5.

Some may have given up on the Giants this season, but they WILL make the playoffs.

I didnt get to go

Well I could always

do the lame Bills hosting somebody in Toronto, but:

1) Why would I ever want to watch the Bills.
2) Tix are apparently outrageously expensive, so if I am paying through the nose I am going to an NFL stadium.

Fans will be nicer to the Cowgirls

if the Giants crush them. Much like the Broncos fans were more than pleasant to me, for the most part, this past Thursday.

From CT

Take 95 South to 287 West across the Tappan Zee (avoid taking 95 all the way down the the GW). Then take the Garden State Parkway South and get off onto Route 17 South. Right after the Teterboro Airport take the exit for Paterson Plank Road (NJ 120 East). Thats the way I used to go growing up driving from Upstate NY and when I lived in CT and should get you to the stadium (unless they changed the traffic pattern). Good luck.

Where are your tickets?

I can’t help you with the logistics since my uncle always took care of that and I’m in the same county of east rutherford.

I wouldn’t expect anything happening to your friend, as long as he doesn’t go looking for trouble. Maybe some taunts, but definitely no beer on him.

Never assume skill at bouncing a ball makes you smarter than the guy who built the court.

Hopefully the stench is resolved.

Cuz the old stadium smell combined with a potentially rotting season…could make you see that pregame bratwurst twice.

how can you bring a cowboy fan???

There will be lots of cowboy fans there which will take away the giants homefield advantage. There will be lots of fights – there always are. If you don’t have a parking pass you can park at the sheraton for 20 bucks and you can tailgate there. Or you can park at the secaucus train station and take the train – its quick and you avoid the traffic getting out of there.

If you have a pass then you can tailgate – you can go 5 hours prior to the game.

if your friend is not obnoxious he might be ok.

he's the one who got the tickets!

anyway he truly is a stellar guy except for the football thing. If he gets too obnoxious, maybe I’ll punch him first to spare him any trouble

You are going to have a blast. I have been numerous times and even when you have to tailgate in a parking garage you can still have a blast.

Best was last season against Carolina and the Overtime game. It was so friggin cold but It was a great game to be at in person.

I will be keeping my fingers crossed for the big Win for you against Dallas…

Thanks

drove to Jersey last night to a bar called Rusty Kale and picked up 4 tix + parking pass. Everything was legit. Helluva burger place there. Guy selling the tix recommended I park by Moonochie Drive and pull some sort of loop to get out after the game. Damn I hope the Giants show up!

Thats great Simms-McConkey, enjoy

I’m a season ticket holder and it’s great you have the passes because it’s a nightmare if you don’t.

They will not let you enter the stadium until 5 hours before kickoff so I guess that would be 11:00 AM. If you get into the stadium before then they will force you to leave and you have to drive around Route 3 until 11:00 so I would wait until a little after 11:00 to arrive to avoid bottle necking upon entrance.

I know you said your tickets are upper endzone but find out what section and then look at a map of the stadium to locate the closest gate (Gate A B C or D) to enter from and park there so you don’t walk around for too long.

The security line at the gates walking into the stadium can get backed up a bit so I suggest walking into the stadium at least a half hour before kickoff, this could be tough if your’re haveing a good talgate but try and stick to it so you don’t miss any of the game.

When you park, park close to an exit so you can get out easy. Becasue of the new construction there are different traffic patterns and it’s a nightmare to get out and when your leaving keep your eyes peeled for which road you have to get on because people are driving like nuts to leave and you have to be uber agressive if not you just keep going around in a circle like Clark Griswald in European Vacation.

Your friend should be fine. Giants fans are pretty good. It might be a little rowdier than normal becasue of later kickoff in December and they are having a bad season so a lot of season ticket holders probabbly sold this game. Because of this your friend will not be alone Cowboys fans come out of the woodwork when their team is good and will go to Giants games so unfortunaley there will be pleanty of them. Just tell him not to act too much like a jerk and not to draw a lot of attention to himself and he’ll be fine. If you do end up in fight or arrested the season ticket holder gets informed about the incedent and it goes against them. If they have 3 incedents then they loose their tix so try and not to get in a fight because it screws the season ticket holder in the end.

I know you said you’re going with your wife so this last idea will be out of the question this Sunday but if you ever go again with just some guys go hit up a strip club called Stelletos after the game. It’s on Paterson Plank road in East Rutherford right by the stadium, TREMENDOUS girls there that would be a nice Christmas gift.

Sorry about the long winded response but I’ve learned a lot in my years of going so have fun and don’t get in trouble.

by Landeta on Dec 2, 2009 5:11 PM EST reply actions

long winded is great

thanks for the tips. I will definitely NOT miss kickoff. Have you heard anything about this Moonochie Road area lot as far as avoiding the tpke north to get out?

You play to win the game!

by Simms-McConkey on Dec 2, 2009 5:25 PM EST up reply actions

All roads lead to the Meadowlands...

…as long as you get there early enough. Do that, tailgate, and soak it all in. Have a great time!!! A win makes the drive home so much better. We hang for about an hour after the game to let everyone clear out.
