Will the Giants make the playoffs?
A couple of weeks ago I asked you if the Giants would make the playoffs, and 80 percent of you who voted were still confident. At the time the Giants had lost four straight.
So, let me ask again. At 6-5, coming off a horrible effort and with a brutal schedule coming up, do you still think the Giants will make the playoffs?
Optimistically, you could look at last season's Arizona Cardinals, who finished 9-7 and still made the Super Bowl. Pessimistically, you could look at the way the Giants are playing and say there isn't much chance.
So, which is it? I am curious to see how much difference there is in the results this time around.

The Cardinals could of went 7-9 in that division last year and still made the playoffs. The Giants don’t have that luxery this year. Philly and Dallas might not be world beaters but they’re 10-6 teams.
I hear you
I didn’t, and still don’t, want to take a side in this one. I wanted to put the question out there to see what you guys think.

Don't want to take a side?
Wishy-washy, Ed, wishy-washy. You and good ol’ Charley Brown.
Nah!
I know which side I am on. I don’t want to take a side here, though, because I don’t want to sway the poll.

Realistically
It’s going to be tough. Even if we beat Dallas, they still have that one game in the W column. If we lose to Philly, and we are tied at seasons end, they hold the tie breaker. These are two scenarios that come to mind which doesn’t take into account what other teams may do for the WC!
Honestly though, the Giants have to be competitive first to even have consideration for a W. They may have beat Atl., it’s how they had to do it, which it shouldn’t have gone to that point!
So if the Giants control their own destiny, i wouldn’t feel too comfortable right now.
Only if we beat dallas

Last night I wrote that its a hard road, but its doable.
It all starts on the next game. Beat them, and we’re only 1/2 a game behind. Lose and we’re doomed.
Ever the optimist, I think we can pull it off. But hey, I thought we’d beat the broncos 31-14.

The way they played says its over and get the golf clubs out....
but the math says it ain’t over.
Until we’re out of it…we’re in it.
So hell yea, we’re making the playoffs…and winning the SB.

Yeah Free and Will..
I agree we still have a shot..but we spotted ourselves 5 out of the six losses I think we can afford to get in the tourney..10-6 I think would definitely do it…Otherwise we need help from other teams, and I hate that…But for now all is not lost..yet.
Will be hard...

Man, wins against the Cowboys and Philly are essential.
I think this last game against Minnesota will define if the Giants will go to the playoffs or not.
Yeah, we like NFL here in Brazil.
It's possible, considering how 9-7 might make a spot
but I doubt it, and even if you made the first round, you’d be knocked out.

I still have faith, and always will
but realism has entered the picture. If our D can’t make a stop unless the other team drops the 3rd down pass, and our O can’t get a first down without a penalty against the defense…..then, “Playoffs?!”
I’ll have to modify. If our D continues down the current path….BIG NO
If we ever learn to adapt and overcome, then….YES
We didn't even have a chance for the "perfect season", but we did have the perfect ending.
Actually by definition
you can’t have faith and be realistic at the same time ;)

I didn't say I had BLIND faith ;)

Even if we make the playoffs, we are not a good enough team to make a deep run
Last year Cardinals had one big advantage over this year’s Giants. Even in the games the Cardinals lost last year they seemed to be able to score at will, so once they got the defense playing better they became a contender.
This year’s Giants seem “soft” on both sides of the ball, and even worse on Special Teams.
I disagree
what let the cardinals make a run is that their defense remembered how to play.
Pretty much all their losses were blowouts.
In the playoffs, they won by feasting on turnovers.
If Carolina didn’t freak out so fast and actually ran the ball, than they probably would have won.
They had a quality game vs the Eagles

I always cheer for ym team
but I am not seeing this group as making it. 8-8 at best.
+1
agree with you bri. I love the Gmen as much as the next fan but there you have to be real about this team. We’ll be lucky to get to 8 and 8. Time to play some of the youngsters and get a jump on next season.
A realist, finally.................
Although I wouldn’t ‘pull the plug’ yet and play the youngsters, unless we lose the next two games and this season is definitely history. You never know, although I do not like the way things are going. Perhaps a big win (the type Denver just got against us) could be a turning point? Maybe the Gaints need to call a ‘players only’ meeting 2 days before the next game, like the Broncos did – it certainly seemed to help them. I’m also no so sure we have a bunch of quality ‘youngsters’ that will help this team. Maybe the Giants are too predictable – we need to start throwing when they expect the pass and vice versa. I think that everyone — including the Cowboys — knows that we are going to try to come out and pound the ball with the run game, to ‘get back to basics’ – this will be a mistake, as they will be ready for it. Maybe try throwing on 1st down when the LBs are playing the run?
9-7 at least
Carolina, Redskins, 2nd String Vikings.
We’ll get to 9-7, it won’t be enough though

Don't sleep on the Panthers
Jake has been garbage this year but they still have Williams and Stewart. If we can’t handle Knowshone Moreno, then DeAngelo Williams is going to have a field day against us, he’s actually good! Oh yeah, I’ll bet the other Steve Smith is licking his chops at a chance to go against our secondary.
I know that
the problem is, the Panther’s Coaches don’t.
Their team will not win by having Delholme throw 40 times, something they’re intent on doing every game.
The few wins they got was when they ran it a lot with Williams and Stewart. Hopefully John Fox isn’t reading this

Boy...
Did the Panthers make me look bad yesterday? I knew when the Jets got the pick 6 off of Steve Smith’s foot, that it was going to be that kind of a day for the Cats.
That's the problem
They abandon the run way too fast.
And unlike with us with Eli, Jake can’t win if he’s forced to throw 40 times a game. Not that I want Eli to throw it 40 times, but I feel much better if eli did that than Delholme.
Never assume skill at bouncing a ball makes you smarter than the guy who built the court.
MAYBE NOT..........
the 2nd string Vikings…………… only if NE beats NO tomorrow……………. otherwise MINN will play for the #1 seed
I disagree
I think they’ll want to rest favre and make sure he gets to the playoffs in one piece.
Never assume skill at bouncing a ball makes you smarter than the guy who built the court.
Even if they can get the 1st seed
Favre’s health is more important than complete homefield advantage.
Never assume skill at bouncing a ball makes you smarter than the guy who built the court.
Favre has been lights out
and there’s really no reason to think that we will pressure him, seems like we haven’t pressured anyone all year. Plus this seems like Brett’s payback tour. He’s got something to prove (Packers x 2)……Cweb, I’ll bet Brett still remembers that pick and he’s got to redeem himself. I’m not holding my breath that the Vikes will rest Favre. He’ll get plenty of rest during their bye week.
Farve is DUE!

i put their playoff chances
at 25-30%.
obviously next week is a must win
by Ahmad Bradshaw on Nov 28, 2009 11:44 AM EST reply actions
No chance
I hate to say that, but I see no reason to beleive that they can fix any of the problems that they haven’t been able to fix yet. Not only will they not make the playoffs, I see nothing that makes me think they can win any of the last 5 games.

I still think they can pull it off..
Hopefully, the Bronco game gave them that final kick in the butt they need to get it together for 60 minutes..I know thing, they don’t need to look in the mirror after this debacle, they need only watch their pitiful performances on film..If that doesn’t send them a message not will..Dallas and Philly are must wins..they have to beat them..I am not too worried (i don’y know why) about Washington and Carolina, and than God the Viking game is last on the schedule…I think they still have a shot at 10-6..They need to fix this team NOW…because if they don’t starting with Dallas they are heading for their final pitifal curtain call….
I said yes because of past practice
I know the team is NOT putting the pieces together, but I don’t see why they CAN’T pull the pieces together. Dallas and Philly aren’t exactly juggernauts, and with more emotion and home field we can win those games. If we don’t then we’re done, but until that happens I’m not the kind of person that wants to be out front on the “their season is done” bandwagon so I can say “see I told you so” if they do lose. If we win the next two games we should beat Washington and Carolina, and that gets us ten and in. Will I predict it? Hell no. Will I predict 8-8 or 6-10? No, because I’ll be too depressed that I was right.

On paper, I thought that this
team would be pure hell but the game is not played on paper. I know about the injuries but we are not the only team with injuries. I know Canty hasn’t played much but he should have a boatlaod of energy and cause some kind of disturbance in the middle, he’s playing against bruised and battered guys while he is “fresh” from his injuries. Unfortunately the team show us what type of heart Giants 09 has. Knowing that the Pack and the Girls won should have caused us to go out like crazed dogs, instead, we rolled over and played dead.
Can we make a run, sure? Will we make a run, I don’t think so, not with what our guys have shown going against good teams. I’m sorry to say but I am one that will stick by my post and saying we will be lucky to get to 8 and 8. Washington won’t be easy. I watch the Panthers every week (bad habit) and I’m sure they and their fans think that they should beat us. With their running game, (which they use), I wouldn’t be surprised if they ring up 200 yards rushing on us.
I’m a G fan til the end but from what I’ve seen these past six weeks, it’s like a diehard Net’s fan saying that they are going to the NBA finals.
Does anybody here Remeber 2002?
Since were talking playoffs lets talk about the last time the Giants looked like such a long shot to make the playoffs this late in the season.
Remember they were 6-6 and had had just come off back to back losses to the EXPANSION Texans and then they blew a two TD 4th quarter lead to the Titians at home to fall to 6-6.
Everybody thought they were done after those disasters, they needed to win there last four including a trip to Indy and at home against the first palce Eagles and get some outside help.
Ha ha I’m trying to think posative becasue I thought that team was done like this one going into December and they turned it around so who knows. I don’t see it this year but I did’nt see it in 02 and it happend so you never know.
It won't be like that
This year will be completely different
Win/lose
Run the tables/get blown out every game
The 2009 NYG will be unlike any team before, and any team that will come after.
So I think we should stop with the past references. 2007 was 2007, 2001 was 2001, 1990 was 1990, 1919 was 1919.
Can the next game start yet?

I hate to admit it..
We cant run, pass, block, pressure the QB, cover wr’s, stop teams in the redzone and posess no heart..
Coach MORA summed it up perfectly – PLAYOFFS DID YOU SAY PLAYOFFS… PLAYOFFS
by SANDIEGOGIANTSFAN on Nov 28, 2009 10:21 PM EST reply actions
the difference with the Giants than that Mora team...
is the Giants, at 6-5…are still very much in it.
There are 3 division games left. Also, the main opponent for that last spot, the Packers, is fully capable of throwing up a stinker (they did lose to Tampa…).
SO the Giants may be playing like crap. But…if last season is evidence (ahem…Eagles), if you play like crap sometimes you can bumble into the playoffs.
And once your in…everyone has the same record. Throw that crap out the door. The Lombardi is up for grabs to all.

yep the packers have 2 almost sure losses against the Steelers / Ravens so we are still in control of our own destiny.
But the fact is that we’ve played MUCH worse than them and the eagles and the eagles from last year as well so it just doesn’t look likely that we will get be able to get the required wins unless everybody starts playing much better.
