Thanksgiving Open Thread

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody. Have a a great day, eat way too much food, enjoy being around your family and, most of all, stay safe. Heading out to watch the Giants at a local pub tonight? Get someone to drive you.

Anyway, use this as your Thanksgiving Day Open Thread. Chat about the early games, or just Thanksgiving Day itself. I will post an Open Thread for the Giants tonight.

Enjoy!

Happy thanksgiving everyone

Hoping for a good win tonight to set us up for the three divisional games that follow.

Just one stat to share with you all that highlights our problems.

Our scoring consists of 29 TD and 21 of 26 FG’s so that is 55 ignoring failed 4th downs.

We have given up 31 TD and only 8 FGA for a total of 39 ignoring 4th down.

We lead the league in most FG’s on offence and conversely have the lowest FG/FGA against.

We are moving the ball and on occasion stopping the opp! However, the Chargers game highlighted the problem in that we scored 4 times to their 3 and lost!

So all we need to do is start converting FG’s into TD’s on offence and the D to allow FGA instead of TD’s!

by G Fan in England on Nov 26, 2009 7:29 AM EST reply actions

Should of scored 5 times against SD

if it was not fore the botched FG on the oppening dirve

Good stats G Fan. It just shows how meaninglesss some stats can be. They typically rank Defenses by yards allowed and the Giants still are in the top half of the league in those categories but as G Fan points out opponets are almost always scoring TD’s when they move the ball while conversely our O moves the ball all day but can’t put the ball in the endzone consistantly.

I’m more concerned about the D though. Maybe cause my entire life as a GIants fan setteling for FG’s is the norm and not converting short-yardage has been the norm since Rodney Hampton retired. I’m used to the Giants winning games 19-13, I’m not comfortable with 34-31 games. Hopefully they can address some of these issues tonight.

Well I’m off to do family stuff. Happy Thanksgiving to all and if I’m coherent enough tonight I’ll be posting about the game!

5 scores

that’s assuming Tynes makes the FG. He hasn’t shown enough consistency.

but in your knickers too, no doubt.

Same here in Mexico

but being here in Cabo and all the Tourists coming you can feel the thanksgiving atmosphere, although is not a holiday here.

However if there is Turkey around I will gladly eat it.

Happy Thanksgiving guys

In the wilds and barrens of Canada of course

Does anywhere else other than the US and Canada really celebrate Thanksgiving?

by brisulph on Nov 26, 2009 10:49 AM EST up reply actions

My understanding

of Thanksgiving is when the Pilgrims found land – so in that respect I would not expect any other countries to celebrate it.

by G Fan in England on Nov 26, 2009 10:53 AM EST up reply actions

I´ve always thought that Thanksgiving

was to give thanks for the harvest and all that stuff of the colonial era in the US.

Here in Brazil the closest thing to the Thanksgiving is the Carnival, which happens in February. The origin is the same: to thank God for the good the harvests that happened in the year.

Of course, today this has been forgotten and Carnival is just an excuse to party and put naked women on tv. hahaha

Yeah, we like NFL here in Brazil.

by GiantsBRFan on Nov 26, 2009 2:21 PM EST up reply actions

Canadian Thanksgiving

is in October, and is to celebrate the Harvest, lke GiantBRFan said.

American Thanksgiving is always the 4th Thursday in November and is related to the pilgrims landing in Plymouth and their first successful harvest with the help of local Native American tribes. I think it combines the traditional harvest celebration and also a celebration of the English settlers and the Natives coming together (while conveniently ignoring what happened over the next few centuries). I only know about the Canadian one b/c I looked it up two days ago after seeing an interview with a Canadian hockey player who plays for one of the NY teams, and they asked him how he was celebrating Thanksgiving. I thought it was a silly question to ask a Canadian, but then thought “maybe I should look this up.” Turns out it was a silly question, but not as silly as I thought.

Thanks cj

you covered that for me nicely.

by brisulph on Nov 26, 2009 4:54 PM EST up reply actions

So am I the only one celebrating Thanksgiving?

Well, to those of you in the US, Happy Thanksgiving, and to the rest of you, have a great Thursday. I’m not cooking today, first time in probably 10 years. It’s a bit of a different T-giving in our household this year, I’m actually going out to dinner. The plus side is, someone else has to clean up afterwards.

Ok thats the happiness of today, The bad part trying to make the wife understand why I HAVE to go to the bar tonight to watch football. I really hate the NFL network since I can’t get satellite at my condo

This must be international day on the BBV.

Happy thanksgiving to all.

Look for me on the 43 yard line, 3rd row behind the Giants’ bench. I’m expecting Hakeen Nicks to pass me up a football at some point during the game, maybe after his 3rd TD catch.

Did anyone just see the Fox pregame show

They had the Top 10 thanksgiving moments, #2 or 3 was LT wins the game for the Giants.

That sack was awesome. Just grabs his jersey and takes him down. And that Interception was just amazing

Currently wishing for a Lions win over Green Bay as that may help us, but Stafford has just thrown his third INT.

had a chance to go to the game tonight, plus a free plane ticket to denver...

unfortunately, i had to turn it down because it came via my douche of a father-in-law. the worse part is that i live in a part of LA that can’t get a dish and time warner cable doesn’t carry the nfl network, so i have to go out to watch the game!

rant over

go g-men!!

by Quitter37 on Nov 26, 2009 4:01 PM EST reply actions

then you should be upset

that sky (mexican division dish) does carry NFL network, I always hear the complaints about the lack of NFL Network in the US and I wonder what kind of deal we got here that we are able to watch it.
So when the game begins I will be off work and ready to root for the GMen

Man, we have a lot of international fans on here

Pretty awesome. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I was planning on having a dinner of Kyle Orton & mashed potatoes, but I think Justin Tuck is gonna beat me to it, so I’ll have to settle for some Turkey.

I’m thankful for many things today, but one thing I’m not thankful for is my decision not to start Donald Driver in fantasy. Damn…

Well Giants

GB won and you know what that means? More incentive to win tonight! Hopefully, if Oakland can win, it will make things alot more interesting!

Though i hate holidays, i just want everyone to be safe and sound. Happy Thanksgiving. Gobble gobble!

Despite the 3-0 score

Dallas has not played particularly well. If they can not fix their run D and stop taking stupid penalties, they might be in danger for this game.

agree

but you need oakland to score
