Brandon Jacobs, 11.24.09

Q. What is the most difficult aspect of playing on the short week, the physical side or the mental?

A. The preparation is what it is. We play against multiple 3-4 teams, the rules don’t change. Some guys are a little bit more talented than others. I take that into consideration. It is more mentally than physically. Physically comes off being mentally strong. If you are mentally weak, then the pain that you endured the last week will bother you, but if not, it will just be normal. They’ve got a 3-4 defense that is very fast. They are a solid front. They can cause some trouble for us.

Q. Coming off a big offensive output, do you sense that the offensive unit is back to playing Giants football?

A. No, not quite yet. We still could be playing a little bit better. Throughout our six wins, we still haven’t played as good of football as we can play. We can be a tad bit better, and we are going to have to be going in against a good Denver team who started off the season at a solid 6-0. They beat some really good teams. A short week, we’ve got to go and be focused and do our preparation and do everything right.

Q. You were banged up a little bit in that last ball game. How are you feeling?

A. I feel good, I feel really good. I don’t really have anything bothering me. Like I said, it’s all mental. You have to get in there and be ready to go.

Q. What was the injury?

A. I took a little hit near the leg. It wasn’t anything bad, should I say. It could have been worse.

Q. Could you have gone back in the game?

A. Yes, I could have gone back into the game. We had two solid backs in the game doing a really good job of pass protecting and running the ball well. So, there was really no need.

Q. What does it mean to be in this race going down the stretch?

A. It means a lot. We are in the race. We’ve got to keep ourselves in the race. Of course Dallas is up there sitting at the top of the division and Philly is behind them. Philly is one up on us because they beat us head to head but we’ve got to play both of those teams here in December. We’ve got to really be on our drive and be able to get this win in front of us.

Q. How did Kim (Brandon’s wife) feel about getting the game ball?

A. She felt good. It was very special. I just hope I can get into the end zone a lot more.

Q. Did you have that planned before you went in?

A. No. I never really get a chance to score a touchdown in that end zone. It worked out perfectly.

Q. When was the last time you played a game on Thanksgiving in your career?

A. I have never played a game on Thanksgiving in my career. The only Thursday night game I played was against Washington. That was my only one.

Q. When are you going to eat turkey?

A. Probably Friday. Chris Canty’s mom is coming up and doing some cooking. I might stop by the Canty estate.

Q. What is it like walking around here after a win instead of a loss?

A. I’m telling you, it feels so good. Everybody is happy. Nobody is down. Coach Coughlin is smiles and brings a lot of energy to us. That is one of those. He is that way. I don’t think there is a coach out there that can have his team better prepared than coach Coughlin.

Q. Does that altitude concern you?

A. I have been to Denver once. I wasn’t running when I was there. I don’t think it will be a problem at all. Just got to go out to play and not even think about that. If you think about it, it is going to hurt you. If not, we just have to go out there and get it. It’s football. The same sport you have been playing since you were eight or nine. The air is a little thinner and could cause a problem if you don’t treat yourself the proper way throughout the week.

Q. Did the beginning of the game feel like a good stretch for you?

A. It felt good for me. To be able to get out and take 12 on the first carry. I made a couple of moves, got some extra yards out of it. We’ve got a tough 3-4 team here. That is always tough to run the ball against. Nothing is going to be open, I just have to run through the arm tackles.
