ATL’s defense is a sieve. Carolina’s having no trouble right now.

Are the falcon's crashing and burning?
It seems Ryan recently has reached the sophmore slump, which sucks for me in fantasy.
But hey, if it means the Giants make the playoffs, I’m not complaining

Bye Week Blues
The Giants face Atlanta on November 22nd then only have 3 days in between the Thanksgiving day game against Denver. What’s up with that? I think the G-Men will need to win 5 of their last 7 games to make the playoffs. We need to get healthy. I hate the bye week lol. GO GIANTS!!!!

To be fair, if Orton didn’t get injured in that game then they would have won, but yea Broncos aren’t looking so hot right now.

Carolina's rushing 4 a lot
No pressure, but effective (kinda seems like the Giants….)
Michael Turner’s hurt, so that may help the Gints a bit. Hopefully the Giants are working on tackling, cuz that’s the only reason ATL’s getting any yards on the ground, with missed tackles.

They got absolutely hosed on a replay call
really left me scratching my head. Although the same thing happened to the Dolphins against the Saints, on the Sharper TD. SI even had a big beautiful picture showing he lost control of the ball before he went in. On a separate note, having seen the Bucs pewter and red again, will they please go back to the orange? So much more character.

It's 5-4
which still puts us third with all the work to do. It is great that the guys have a little space to move, but I am not willing to organise the party just yet. I want to see the Giants win and secure the Division on their own merits rather than hope that the other teams fall over. We have to be in control of our own destiny, which means winning consistently.

I have'nt been this happy on a Sunday
since October 5th! Figures the Giants don’t play so thats why I’m happy. Lets just hope the crap-show they’ve been putting on the field the past four weeks does’nt show up. They still have a shot for the division but it’s tough sleading. TC better use this weekend to get the boys going this week I’m sure he took notice what happened today
by Landeta on Nov 15, 2009 7:54 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
One game at a time
The Falcons gave up TDs to the pass and run today and Ryan got picked twice (with is 3 times fewer than Cutler, lol). There has got to be something there that TC can work with. The Giants have to win convincingly next week to put the season back on track. Phi vs Bears and Dallas vs Skins, so it could remain close at the top.
At this point I am just happy to have a week without biting my nails down to the bone!

I dislike the Jets because
1.) They play in our stadium
2.) As a kid growing in the 80’s living in the NY metro area I was always forced to watch some god awful Jet game at 4:00 rather than the national double header. I would watch a great Giants Redskin game then get subjected to Jets Chiefs instead of Bears Niners like the rest of the country
3.) For some unknown reason to me they get most of the football coverage in this area even though they have about 50 fans and stink year after year as compared to the Giants who own the NY fan base and are historically a top 10 NFL franchise. Every Monday and Friday is wall to wall Jets coverage on local talk radio with about 20 mins dedicated to the Giants. Are you Kidding me! It’s the same 10 callers with Ira from Staten Island leading the charge talking Jets to the Super Bowl. It was so nice with the Jets on their bye last week it was all Giants all the time like it should be.
4.) Because they stink they’re always changing coaches and QB’s every 3 years so everyone in the NY market has to be subjected to how Richard Todd or Ken O’Brien or Browining Nagle or Boomer Easiason or Neil O’Donald or Glenn Foley or Chad Pennington or Kellen Clemens or Bret Favre or now Mark Sanchez will be the next Joe Namath.
5.) Speaking of Namath can we put it to rest. I can’t stand hearing about him. He is the most overrated athlete in sports history. He had two good seasons and stunk for most of his carrer. Kerry Collins has had a better carrer than him. He guarantted a win, big freaking deal so did Plaxico against the Pats. Watch the tape of Super Bowl 3 the Colts turned over the ball about 5 times 3 of them in Jets territory while Matt Snell ran for 124 yards. Namath played like Dilfer did in his Super Bowl win execept Dilfer threw a TD pass.
6.) Jet fans. There idiots. Do you know what ruined the Giants season last year? Plaxico? banged up D? the Eagles? No Jets fans becasue after they beat the Titans all we heard was Subway Super Bowl talk and how will the NFL work the the conference championship games. They jinxed bothed teams, those idiots!
7.) Suicide pool. Last year I took the Jets vs Oakland and that knocked me out, this year I took the Jets vs the Bills. I root for them once a year against garbage teams and they can’t do that right.
8.) J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets. I hate fireman Ed.
9.) The Draft. All 50 of their fans go to it to boo yell and act like jerks and were all subjected to it.
10.) Jason Sehorn and Osi ripped up their knees in preason games against them.
11.) Rex Ryan is Buddy Ryan’s son.
Thats all I could think of right now but I’ll let you know if I think of more.
by Landeta on Nov 15, 2009 9:13 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Oh yea I almost forgot
a meiorce Jet team beat the Giants the last weekend of the regular season in 1988 to knock them from a divisional tittle and eventually the playoffs. This is what sealed the deal for me with the Jets.

does it occur to anyone
that if there’s so much media coverage on the jets its because they have just as large of a fan base or maybe larger than the giants?
by cntrlalt on Nov 15, 2009 9:39 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
really?
I never noticed that.
I think its cuz the Jets are a NY team..and since they’ve never won anything that when they do seem like a contender, a bigger stink is made about it.
But I don’t see how they have a bigger fan base or more media coverage.
I really don’t think you’ll see a Jet fan in North Dakota….but you may see an Eli Manning jersey up there.

well i have no idea if its true or not
i don’t think i’ve ever seen any kind of data on the market shares of the two teams. it just occurs to me that if media stations cover the jets more its for a reason, usually because there’s a bigger fan base.
by cntrlalt on Nov 15, 2009 9:57 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I definitely don't think the Jets have a bigger fanbase
but I do think it’s bigger than a lot of Giants fans give it credit for (much like the Mets/Yankees). I think if the Jets had won the Super Bowl 2 years ago instead of the Giants, their fanbase would probably be bigger right now (there’s a lot of “swing” fans in NY. Don’t believe me? Compare Mets & Yankees attendance numbers over the years. Mets always outdraw the Yanks when they’re a better team).
When I go out to bars on football Sundays in DC, the Giants, Steelers, Eagles, and Jets always have the biggest fan base representation over the course of both games. I’m sure if I were in California the Jets wouldn’t be in the top 4, but, then I suspect that neither would the Giants or the Eagles.

They don't
its a fact. The waiting list is not nearly as long or as large for Jets season tickets as it is for Giants.
The Giants have a much bigger streak of consectuive sellouts than the Jets
Jets tickets are cheaper than Giant Tickets.
The Jets have not sold there PSL’s the Giants have
Go to a Jet game a good part of the crowd is either rooting for the other team or just a football fan going to a game.
This is just my personal expeience but growing up in North Jersey there were way more Giant Fans than Jet fans. In fact most of the kids I argued with were Cowboy or Niner fans because there were no Jet fans. ALso I currently live in Mercer county NJ which is the dividing line between NY fans and Philly fans. Lots of Eagle fans down here and lots of Giants fans but very few Jet fans.
My college roomate was from Long Island and he was a Giant fan and I was surprised becasue thats were I thought most Jets fans were but he told me even in LI there are still probabbly more Giant fans than Jet fans just thats were most of the Jets fans live.
Trust me there are not nearly as many Jet fans as Giant ones. Ask a Jet fan. Even Joe Benigo, Mr Jet, on WFAN always says how few Jet fans are out there.
I think they get the attention because the guys on FAN are Jet fans and only take Jet calls while a lot ot the beat writers like Vaccaro and Serby from the Post are admitted Jet fans so because of that were bombarded with Jet crap.
I also thinks the Jets organization spends a lot of money marketing there team with TV shows and Newspaper ads while the Giants just rely on their strong fan base.

by DoctorK16 on Nov 15, 2009 10:14 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Thats my point
North Jersey, New York State, Conn, Bronx are 90% Giant fans while Queens/LI is a 50/50 split. Thats a small chunck of the NY metro area.

A chunk that is home to 5 million people

by DoctorK16 on Nov 15, 2009 10:23 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
True
but my point is it’s a split between the two teams in LI/Queens and thats the best the Jets do while other areas are dominated by the Giants. North Jersey has about 5 Million too and it’ s about 90 percent Giants. Throw in the other areas menitoned and the Giants have double to three times the fan base yet they get less coverage.
I know the Jets have more fans than teams like the Jaguars, Falcons, and Cardinals becasue they play in the biggest market but it’s not even close to a 50/50 split in the New York metro area yet for some reason they get so much coverage. I don’t see the Nets, Devils, or Islanders getting the same coverage of the Knicks and the Rangers.

Hockey and Basketball
are less popular and the Nets have no fanbase.

Maybe Hockey
but when the Knicks are good BBall is just as big as baseball and the NFL. Remember in the 90’s when in April and May all New York would focus on is the Knicks in the playoffs instead of both the Yanks and Mets? Your right the Jets have a bigger fan base than the Nets but my point is it’s still not nearly as big as the GIants yet the football coverage in this area is 75%/25% in favor of the Jets and as a diehard Giant fan it’s very fustrating and I don’t get why this is.

the city loves it when the Rangers are good.

i love
these percentages that seem to come from nowhere. 90% of jersey are giants fans because 3 out o4 guys you know are giants fans?
now i’m really curious as to whether there’s any legit market research out there for market share of the teams.

Your right I'm pulling most of these #'s out of my A*!
its pretty much my own personal expierence, but one legit fact and you could look this up is the waiting list for season tickets. The Giants have significantly more fans on their waiting list than do Jet fans do. To me that indicates a bigger fan base because they don’t charge you to be on the waiting list.

just because
the games don’t sell out faster doesn’t mean they don’t have as many fans…correlation does not equal causation

the Jets
get more coverage on talk radio because more of their fans call. The Giants traditionally have a more white collar fan base while the Jets have tended to have a blue collar fan base. Guess who calls talk radio.
by DoctorK16 on Nov 15, 2009 10:13 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You got a point but
Last week FAN was taking Giant calls for three days and all weekend leading up to the Charger game. Giant fans call just as much they just don’t put them on the Radio. When Kellerman was on 1050 it was mostley GIants talk becasue he took those calls. Your argument makes sense but I have my doubts about it.
by Landeta on Nov 15, 2009 10:19 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I wonder why Giants fans have been calling lately?
Stability is boring as hell to talk radio, and the Giants have generally been the model of stability. Last year the Giants were a 3rd page story when they were winning, and then jumped to the front page after Plax got hurt. Losing drives ratings (just like bad news generates good ratings for news shows – why do you think they report muders and wars and other controversial topics and not good people doing good things?), and the Jets lose more often than the Giants lose.

but the Mets loose
and the Yanks still get more coverage most of the time.

and Landeta I think you got a point on the Subway jinx...
cuz it may have happened this year.
Soon as these fool Jet fans started talking about “how are we gonna schedule the AFC and NFC championship games”???? ……the Jets and Giants started losing.

J-E-T-S Stink Stink Stink
I can’t stand the Jet’s because the NY media forgets to be objective when it comes to them. Every year starts out to be there year even when you know they are gonna stink (which is almost every year). When the Giants have a bad team the local media will say so and try to act like national media. This year is a perfect example, Rex Ryan comes in starts running his mouth, Jet players start running their mouth like they are the second coming of the steelers. Nobody in the local media says anything about it, if the Giants started chirping like that they would be told talk it chap, the Jets the media runs with it, not a peep about the Jets startting a rookie QB, not a peep about the defense which is imporved from last year but just is not that good

If we can beat DAL, PHI & ATL ...
We should be in good shape for the various tie-breakers for Division and Wild Card.

Lets worry about the Giants not putting on another Sh*t show
against Atlanta next week before we discuss division tittle. Thy’ve got to clean up their act then we could worry about tie-breakers.
by Landeta on Nov 15, 2009 8:37 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Or should atlanta be concerned with not putting their own "Sh*t show"
What about Dallas? They couldn’t score until garbage time
As a fan, I feel confident that we’ll win it all, but that’s why they play the game

agreed
ATL, DEN, Dallas, Philly, GB are all capable of putting up a few stinkers. I think thats what’s a bit upseting to me. I thought the Giants were finally better than the inconistant middling teams that are in this league especailly in the NFC but they’ve sunk back to that level in recent weeks. I think they can pull out of it but it needs to start next week vs the Falcons.

Answer me this...
Why are the Patriots and Cowboys the two teams that the refs always favor?? Late in this 1st half Indy is driving down for a sure score and on cue the refs throw a flag on Indy killing their momentum.

Giants control destiny to make playoff
Watching the Giants fall to 3rd place made me go from “deep playoff aspirations” to “wow, they’re going to have to claw their way for a playoff spot” mode… truth of the matter is the Giants just have to win again but they dont have to hope and pray certain teams to lose now to make playoff – a whole 7 more games left.
The Giants have Atlanta, Eagles and Dallas games still to play.
With todays stumbles by the Eagles and Cowboys – the NFC East is still up for grabs. (Eagles and Cowboys also have another game to play eachother)
Yes, easier said then done, and this is meaningless if the Giants cant remember how to win, but I just wanted to point it out that Atlanta also lost today, so the stars were aligned for the Giants this week and its up to them to take advantage of the opportunity now.
