Giants notes: Bad news on the Bossman
Now that you guys have had a good chance to ogle Reby, let me try and turn your attention back to football.
Mike Garafolo reported this afternoon that Eli Manning did not practice today. No big deal, we expected that much.
Now for the really bad news. MG said this about Kevin Boss.
Boss is also inside the building with Manning for the second straight day. He's clearly suffering from an ankle sprain that's pretty severe and doesn't appear likely to play on Sunday against the Raiders.
Make it stop, please! I don't know how much more of this I can take. At least the weekly 'inactives' are pretty easy to figure out.

of course...
looks like Beatty will get some snaps as a blocking TE…which brings to my next point…
why did Guy Whimper make the final roster??? i was trying to defend him being that he is a versatile guy but c’mon, this is his time to step up to the plate! But instead they’re going to go with Beatty?!?!?! I’m all about developing players but you gotta cut the umbilical cord sooner or later…
Whimper, Moss, Wilkinson…these guys are useless…utterly useless.
it’s been 4 years and Moss still can’t make a fair catch on a punt.

C'mon, Andiamo,

Mugwumping
Ah, George. I forgot I should always keep a dictionary nearby when I see you are commenting. LOL!!

lol...
what bothers me is that i was in here defending Whimper not too long ago…
all this tells me is that I was dead wrong and didn’t have a leg to stand on in the first place.

look at the career paths of Seubert and O'Hara....
Whimper may never make it, but there’s a reason he’s still around. The Giants O-Line coach is one of if not the best in the business, so they’re keeping him around for something.
Wilkinson I’d think too, but I dunno.
Sinorice Moss is not useless. That gorgeous TD catch proves it. Nice to have a 15th WR like that who can make plays.

Coughlin must be having a cow.
Injuries annoy him. It does to me as well. I am about in the bargaining phase of this.
Dear Higher Being, please restore the Giants to full health and protect them from ticky-tack injuries from penalties. Thanks.

I am just hoping
that all of this blows over, and the Giants are at their best at the end of the season.

Right, Ed.
This run of bad luck couldn’t have come at a better time. By next week we be closer to full strength for N.O. Besides, Johnson is no cucake and, we all want to see what Becks can do. Just hope Bossman can be back for next week. Those high sprains, though, I don’t know.

That's right!
Getting Dockery and Nicks back this past week, and now Hixon, Sintim and Ware are now practicing (though limited) is a step in the right direction! Bodies that are at least in practice are important overall, regardless! lol
I do think that we can afford to sit Boss though. Give him a week off! But i will say though, given any game-planning, Boss would probably be needed to chip Seymour (LDE?) and or help out! But i agree, open this up a bit with Beckum!

Beckum
I think they use this week to rest Boss. There is a young man that we drafted out of the Cheese State. I think this week should be a week where we give some reps to young Travis Beckum and see what he can do. He did have a nice catch on Sunday. He showed some speed as well. We can always use an extra lineman as a blocking TE. I think Beckum can play and we know Jerry Reese picked him for a reason.

Bronze lining on Boss
It’s not a silver lining because he’s a gamer but it means we get to see what we have in guys like beckum and maybe run some more three receiver sets.

I'm excited to see
what Beckum could do with a good number of game snaps. If he really is the sort of H-back type that he was hyped as, getting him in at TE a lot now would get him some game experience which would set the stage for some possible H-back formations down the road. That would be a nice twist to throw in this already balanced offense.
I’m also interested in his route running…like maybe a short out pattern…it would be interesting to see if…he bends it like…
Ed, I feel your posts have gone downhill in recent…minutes. I don’t see Reby anywhere on this page. Stick with what got ya to the show.

If things pan out with Eli
I think the team is actually holding ground or getting healthier…
Looks like Canty and Sintim could see action Sunday, Dockery is back. So on D we’re missing Alford and Phillips for the year, putting that behind us we’re waiting on Ross and Kehl … anyone else?
On offense it sounds like the O-Line is intact, Ware should be back within a few weeks, Boss is and Hixon could be back by New Orleans but certainly are on the path for the second half, and i think Nicks should be abck at full strength?
That’s hella better than in week 2…

I do agree though
having Nicks and Canty and Sintim and Dockery back is a big swing in health, even with Boley going down (again) and Boss now, we’re still healthier.
I think we’re all in a stun mode from the surgery news and the Eli scare to see that we’re actually gaining in health.

Canty is not going this week...
and i don’t think next week is a guarantee either…but i hear what your saying and at least we are getting some bodies back.

injuries
Thank god we play the Raiders at home this week. We should rest all players that we can even though that’ s not TC’s game plan. Let’s let Carr run the offense. I have faith in him.

Be careful now...
What would be better…
David Carr playing a full game or…
Kevin Gibride calling plays in the red-zone or…
Tynes kicking a sub-30 yarder to win it or…
All of the above, and your hammered at halftime and you’ll find out later?! lol

Tough call
Russell is still the QB for the Raiders. That’s got to give the Gs at least a 10 point edge.
by njgiant on Oct 8, 2009 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah
Carr is better than Russell, and unit for unit I think we’re better, so in this speculative event I still like our chances…

I bet BOMAR could look like Eli against the Raiders.

You forget
Eli looked like crap his first year in the league, so Bomar could easily replicate that and hold your statement to be true.

In Gerry we trust
I don’t know how these things work, I’m a pom living in New Zealand. However, I guess that if Whimper, Moss and Wilkinson are on the roster it must be because Jerry Reese has at least supported their retention .. and don’t we trust his judgment?
by Johannus on Oct 8, 2009 5:01 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Johannus, please
translate pom. In September ‘08 I met an Australian who used it and translated it for me. I’m straining to remember but can’t. BTW, he was a descendant of an Irish family (Byrne? Bourne? something like that) that disgraced itself centuries earlier by “taking the king’s shiiling” to hold onto its land. pom—some thing to do with England or Englishmen, not complimentary necessarily, that’s my vague recollection.

It describes the colour English people go when caught by the Australian sun.
It is short for Pomegranate a very bright red!!

Prisoner of Mother England (pome)
Another explanation is that it is a reference to the the English (mainly) who were transported to Australia as a penal colony. They were ‘Prisoners of Mother England", hence, Pome’s. Interesting, but much less interesting than pictures of Reby.

I would say
That my version is the modern day meaning and that Johannus’s is the more historical (and most probably) the correct meaning

Cracked it
Lads
I think I have cracked the injury curse (well sort of).
It is to do with the alphabet.
Alford, Brown, Boley, Boss, Bradshaw, Canty, Dockery, Eli…..can you see the pattern!
Injuries next week will be the letters…..
At this rate we will do both the alphabet and the team.
by G Fan in England on Oct 8, 2009 5:14 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
You may be on to something
I can see where Aaron Ross fits in, Clint Sintim just picked up his injury a little earlier than expected according to your system, but he is a rookie. Hakeem Nicks, maybe his speed counted against him because he shouldn’t be injured until about Wk 9. I hope you know a good Intellectual Property lawyer.

This is bad news
I’m sorry I can’t be as optimistic as most of you but this is startng to remind me 06. When the Giants were beating up on the likes of the Bucs, Texans, Falcons, and even Cowboys to get to 6-2 but the injuries kept piling up Osi, Tuck, Strahan, Toomer, Petigout. The Giants looked like a lock for the Division and maybe home field but the injuries caught up with them and they went 2-6. I know this team is better but at some point these injuries will catch up to them. Think about it, it’s week 5 and our 2 best players Tuck & Eli have injuries that could effect their play all year. Our top 2 free agents Boley & Canty have barley played. Canty looks like he will be a bust this year while Boley will not be back until mid November. We all know Jacobs will miss 4 to 5 games at some point. Philips going down will cost this team against a good passing team like Philly or NO while Ross being out is not helping. I know the G-Men will win this week but I think they struggle big time the rest of the way because of the injuries it’s just going to be one of those years.
by Landeta on Oct 8, 2009 5:25 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
you may be kind of right...
but for the most part…no, your not just yet.
Eli is still here. If you’ve been listening, this is an injury that he’s been dealing with all year. He’s been pretty good so far no?
The whole O-Line is fine. The D-Line is too. Secondary is getting healthier.
The team has missed Boley before and been fine. Tuck was excellent last game, so that injury might as well be a figment of your imagination.
Canty hasn’t played, so he’s a bust, But the one game he did play he was good. Id rather him play the final 10+ game and miss the first six, I thank you.
And you can’t go and predict a Jacobs injury. Will he get hurt? Maybe. But in every season he already would be hurt. He hasn’t yet and his new ‘style’ may be to blame for it.
The biggest difference is this is a `10x deeper team than it was in 2006. That’s really it. They’ve pretty much sustained an equal amount of injuries. The best part about them all is these guys will be back at some point.
You are right to be concerned, but I just doubt the way they are built and have been playing against these teams that they really are in serious trouble.

When Canty returns
If we get a healthy Canty back after the bye week, that will be just when we need him. Is that too much to hope for?

I'd like to thin that's the over for when he returns...
I don’t think he’ll be gone that long.
It doesn’t mean a thing of course, but I’m penciling him in to come back against the Saints.

Injuries are mounting like 06
But that was before Spags brought in his defense — this system seems to be working so far no matter who is playing and maybe better under Bill

That was the year
we had three LBs in the playoffs who hadn’t been with the team on opening day, wasn’t it? And I thought I’d successfully erased it from my memory bank

Quote of the year
From Carr on practicing with the 1st team offense:
“It’s nice to play with the toys,” Carr said. “Sometimes you feel like the brother who doesn’t get to play with all the cool stuff.”
Injuries suck, let’s hope we get some guys ready for next week and the ‘Aints. I just can’t manage to get worried about Oakland. Then again, I woulda said the same thing about the Monday nighter in Cleveland last year. I’m really just hoping for 200 yds on the ground and 40+ minutes of ball control. Get that and we’ll win the game.

Yeah it is looking more and more like Carr
Is going to get the nod this week..You could read it between the lines with Gilbride’s comments..It sure sounds like KG is exprecting Carr to be Quarterbacking this week..Which might not be a bad thing, having Eli 2nd man this week in case Carr gets hurt..Eli could probably go in..Carr seems confident, but hasn’t yet displayed that he has lost the jumpy foot jitters dance..Maybe we’ll get lucky and Cable will be getting his mugshot taken..Davis will then most likely hire Kornhieser to coach the team Sunday.

kinda like that week
Eli serparated his shoulder and was “out for the season” according to Chris Mortenson…then played THAT Sunday.

I know that Kevin Boss isn’t the play-maker like some TE, but when he is put in the right position, he makes one hell of a play. I’ll definately keep my fingers crossed on Sunday.
