HALFTIME
Christmas must have come early for the Saints. The Refs are completely blowing this game and are obviously favoring the Saints. Complete BS thus far. I count 4 blown calls already and tom Coughlin looks ready to take off like a rocket on the sidelines.
I make no excuses for the Giants game play today, they need to step it up but WTF man, you give any NFL team as many opportunities over blown calls and they will make something happen. IT MAKES ME SICK!!!!!

ur rite scotty, but wen we have the team to compete with new orleans high powered offense and not perform. it really is a heart braker, we just took cleavland for granted.
by old man strahan on Oct 18, 2009 2:48 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
i agree, we do have them team to compete
and injuries have been a part of why they arent able to compete as well, but even without them playing, they should still be able to perform

it's not over yet
but regardless, this is a good wake-up call for everybody.
not a division game, and it’s not the end of the world. but i’d like to see Sheridan actually make some adjustments instead of leading the sheep (four man front) out to slaughter by Brees.

Still a half to play
I’m concerned but not panicking…Eli can come back in the second half without question but he needs the defense to make some stops.
Eli should hit the refs in the balls with the football like in the longest yard with adam sandler to make them call the game straight.

Weird call
I’ve never heard the call “Ball was coming loose but since it was between hand and chest it is not a fumble” before. That and a ridiculous DPI call on Webster sure aren’t helping things.
Having said that, the Giants D is doing nothing out there. No pressure, open receivers, absolute disaster for the Defense.
by Wide_right on Oct 18, 2009 2:53 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
it was one of the classic
“whatever the call was on the field, it stands” replays.
it was a tough call to overturn, just like itwould’ve been really tough for them to overturn it been ruled it a fumble on the field.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Oct 18, 2009 2:55 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Then he should have said “No evidence, call stands.” But he didn’t say that. He said the ball was coming out before he hit the ground. In that case, it was a fumble.
by Wide_right on Oct 18, 2009 2:56 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
he said it was still pinned to his shoulder
which i guess you could argue. but like i said, that call was almost impossible to overturn.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Oct 18, 2009 2:57 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
FWIW, I do agree with that. I just don’t like the ref making up an explanation that a long time fan has never heard before.

one good thing
from getting beat this badly is that it’ll bring the giants back to earth. everybody has already put them in the superbowl representing the nfc east. maybe they’ll get that killer attitude back.
by Mother Tucker on Oct 18, 2009 2:57 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah thats the silver lining
but thats where spags was real good for the defense.. who knows if sheridan has that
by scotty2129 on Oct 18, 2009 2:58 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Keys to fixing this mess
1) O-line MUST step it up
That fumble never should have happened. Eli was on his back way too much. We lucked out with the roughing the passer, but with how the refs are, eli needs to be perfect. No one can be perfect on their back
2) Getting Pressure
F-ing dree brees is carving up our d. We’ve stopped the running game decently enough (3.6 ypc vs our 5 ypc). Unless we get some timely turnovers, this game will be out of reach.
3) Penalties
I couldn’t believe we only have 4 penalties. Still its for 70 yds, almost the length of the football field. Its way too unruly
by Willgfass on Oct 18, 2009 2:58 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
we need to stop the o
so eli can werk us back into the game

but complaining about the refs after giving up 34 points in the first half is like complaining about the umpiring when your team is down 12-2. Giants are getting outclassed today.

He's right to be pissed...
he’s been off on the deep ball all game.
When he has another chance to make up for it, a guy misses a needed block adjustment.
Every right to be pisses at AB there.
We don’t know what was said either. But I just think its a bit different to see some Peyton in him.
Like I said, positives from a horrible game. Maybe Eli really goes off now.

If you think they won’t take some solace when reviewing the film in the crazy number or crazy calls, I’d say you’re mistaken, but that will probably never be said publicly, and I’ll grant you that they probably won’t.

Yeah - maybe a few, here and there.
But when you’re basically getting beat, and you need to summon up all your inner strength to get back in game, and then have bad call after bad call kick you in the teeth, it’s demoralizing. Sorry if that’s difficult for some people to accept. This was a combination of a bad performance by us AND by the zebras.

just got back from the bar
that was pretty awful. The defense should have just stayed in New Jersey – I’m sure we could have gotten a better performance from LSU’s D or even UL-Lafayette. That said, this is one regular season loss – we lost 6 games in 2007. The good news is that the road to SB XLIV no longer goes through the Meadowlands – I’d rather have Eli playing in a dome in January. And mark my words, this is still an elite football team that will be playing deep into January.

The one bright spot here
is that this game will certainly provide motivation to improve. It might be that they were lulled into a false sense of security after the last few weeks.

Hate to say it
but our D needs work. It has not been the same since last December. D-Line gets no rush and no disipline allows lots of cutback runs. I expected the Saints to move the ball and score a little but not like a game of Tecmo bowl. Eli and the O will get it together bad day for them they’ll be sharp next week but the D looks lost. No Ross, KP, and Boley hurt but they were just not prepared at all it looked like. They better get it together because they got the Cards passing attack next week. The only positive thing about this is the Saints are by far the best O in the league so it will prepare them well for the Cards and under TC the Giants respond well when they get spanked like this.

Defensive play-calling ...
showed a total lack of agressiveness in the first half.
I even remember on play in the 3rd Quarter where Saints had a 3rd and 17, we rushed 4 and played a ZONE !! Of course, first down resulted.
That’s not gonna get it done unless the opposing QB is named JaMarcus.
by Shofner85 on Oct 18, 2009 4:51 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
and I think the offensive playcalling
was a bit TOO aggressive.
I like taking shots downfield, but would rather then be deeper in the game.
Of course, the could have succeded on the hits..and also failed while being conservative.
But those deep calls were the end of drives and led to the big deficit early.

when your D isn't getting any stops
you need to get first downs and keep the game moving. The deep passes on 3rd and shorts killed us in the first half. But I’m not gonna lay too much blame on the offense – a combination of the ’99 Rams and the 2007 Pats would have had trouble keeping up if their defense was that pourous

I agree
I think they sensed the D was going to get shredded after the first two drives and decided they needed to keep up to have a chance. KG’s ol run & Shoot instincts came out. Can’t blame him too much, I think he had a lot of confidence in Eli and the young receiveing core. I was surprised that Eli did not play better he is usually good it tough spots like this one.

The whole game..It plain stunk..Our DL stunk..the LBs stunk and the secondary REALLY stunk..Sheridan did a LOUSY job this week preparing our guys for a no brainer..They should have taken the whole secondary out and benched them…because Brees was scoring like they were not even there anyway..like I said worst Giants defensive performance I have seen in the 47 years I have watched them..Zero pressure..and receivers wide open for Brees..Awful

Still, while in no way is it all on the refs, Hochuli and his crew I want no part of during any game.
They were absolutely horrible in one direction today.
Its not even that they were in one direction, its just that there were a lot of no calls that were called…and really affected the game.

Pardon the overzealous Saints fan
There were a few smack talkers over on Canal Street Chonicles this week – one of you guys even predicted the Giants would win 56-7.
Wow, what a crazy game. I was confident the Saints would win, but holy cow, I didn’t expect a blowout like that. You guys shouldn’t be down on your defensive line – the Saints have one of, if not the, best offensive lines in the league. The secondary is questionable though.
And forget about trashing the refs. On balance, yeah, more blown calls went in favor of the Saints, but there were a few bum calls against them too.
I would not want to be a player in that Giants locker room after this game. Coughlin is going to hurt someone.

Your QB
is the best in the league right now. Your o-line is good and your D has improved but Brees makes it all go, sick sick player. The way to beat you guys is to run the ball controll the clock and keep Brees off the field, maybe only Peyton and Brady can beat him in a shootout and I’m not sure about that.
by Landeta on Oct 18, 2009 5:12 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs

but it’s close. And the way Brady’s playing this year, no way he keeps up with either of them. Brady in 2007’s a different story

I'm fine with that
keep us out of the Meadowlands in January. Look, the Saints are obviously very good, but we’ve been here before – the Cowboys and the Packers both blew us out in 2007 and the Patriots put up a ton of yards against us, and the Giants came back and won it all. We’re not gonna get too overworked about a regular season game one way or another

Weak Def play calling
Brees had no pressure at all the 1st quarter and we still stuck with only a four man front . I almost forgot what a blitz looks like in blue.. Even in our easy wins the play calling isn’t as aggressive is it’s been the past two years … Very frustrating
by Status on Oct 18, 2009 5:19 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Agreed
but the Giants were able to get a rush with just the front 4 through most of 07 and part of 08. Thats what made them so good, they rushed 4 or 5 but it felt like more to other teams and they had 5 or 6 guys in coverage. Since the end of last year they have not been able to get a solid rush with just the front 4 and they have not been able to compensate for that. It will hurt them against good passing teams like the Cardinals, Eagles, and Chargers.
by Landeta on Oct 18, 2009 5:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
OK
Anyone who thinks the refs weren’t a BIG part of why the Giants lost today doesn’t watch football. The PI on Webster led to a TD. The phantom holding on the Jacobs TD catch. And horse collars on jersey tackles?? The extra 15 yards gave the saints better field position how many times?? And when a ball starts to come out on the way down, it’s a fumble. Hochuli strikes again.
by sexyscottish on Oct 18, 2009 5:41 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Officiating is just bad all around
Seems like one week a catch is no good unless you walk it back to the ref and next week you just have to catch it for a bit like Meacham did on the 1 yard line in the 4th quarter. Last week Steve Smith was robbed of a catch because he lost the ball when he hit the ground after landing two steps. Refs are really ruining the game of football the last couple of years.
by Status on Oct 18, 2009 6:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well you make a good point..
The referees this year as I said before are relatively new, but our guys beat themselves today..there was a wrong call on a horse-collar, and there was no foul on Jacobs TD catch..Eli threw alot of high passes and overthrew a couple more..by inches…Just wasn’t our day today..no big deal..We’ll get back to the program..TC will ensure that..I feel Gilbride did a decent job, and Sheridan was awful..There is no way a team with our talent on defense could literally do nothing..What an embarassment..I have as I said never ever seen our team play defense like that..Awful
by Bobbiblue on Oct 18, 2009 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Sheridan..
I know our guys, D line , didn’t play very well against a good O line but the play calling wasnt’ any help. The Saints would bring in an extra O lineman.. keep the backs in to protect and we did nothing.. We just kept rushing 4 guys.. Our D is so plain and passive now and what worries me the most is there wasn’t much of an adjustment for the second half if any..
by Status on Oct 18, 2009 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The holding call on the Jacobs TD was weird
It actually should have been clipping. I don’t know what Giants player it was, but someone hit Will Smith below the knees from behind just as he was closing on Eli.
Overall, the blown calls favored the Saints, but not 21 points worth. The roughing the passing call on Vilma that negated Sharper’s pick six was bogus too – Vilma was a half step away from him when Eli threw the ball. There was no way he could have stopped himself, and it’s not like went to the head. The reason it looked bad is because there was a Saints player on the ground at Eli’s feet when Vilma made contact, so Eli got knocked off his feet.
by HB-NOLA on Oct 18, 2009 6:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No..No..No
That hit on Eli was a classic roughing the passer call..You had to be totally drunk not to know that..I did not see what happened to Smith….If that is true then they missed that call..but the call against Vilma was a good call, an obvious call..and your right not 21 points worth..Our guys lost, beat themselves..period..I don’t like the officiating this year, but you can’t blame a loss like today on that..We lost because we sucked today..
by Bobbiblue on Oct 18, 2009 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agree the hit on Eli was helmet to helmet ...
but it was fortunate to wipe out a pick-6.
G-men played poorly on defense, both strategically and execution-wise, but the Saints beat us as much as we beat ourselves.
Saints played aggressive on O and D … all … game … long (and executed well). Hopefully Coughlin was paying attention. That is what we still lack a bit. I’m amazed that coaches still try to “play it safe”, which almost never works. I just wonder how many times a team has to learn the same lesson the hard way.
But … it’s only one game, and hopfully they can put it behind them and not have a hangover effect in future weeks.

I don’t totally blame Eli…We simply had no defense today..it was horrible..and it was a total embarassment to our legacy..they flat out stunk…The DL stunk, the LBs stunk and the secondary completely stunk..what were they covering?..It sure wasn’t Saints receivers..and Eli needs to work on his high throws, and our backs need to block..I will give kudos to Brandon for shaking off that stinger he suffered..Aikman said he suffered it on a run, while I saw him with his head down in the huddle in the 1st quarter..that injury occurred way before they picked up on it..I told my wife that he looked hurt.
