NFL Owners' Lockout in 2011
An article in the current Bloomberg Mag. reports that because of the "Stadium Binge" the league is overburdened with debt from building new stadiums overloaded with luxury skyboxes. With so many unsold tickets, the league is pushing for a new labor deal to lower players' salaries. The average price for a premier ticket is $226. In'96, the NFL and team debt has jumped from $2 billion to $9 billion this year. Ticket prices must come down. The owner's profits will be cut and the new pact will ease the loss. Massive debt and reality could result, some speculate, in a 2011 season beginning and ending with an owners' lockout.
An unsettling prospect, indeed, but I've heard far worse predictions, beginning with a recent assertion by a financial guru (outside the main stream, but frighteningly accurate with his forecasts to date) that our financial systerm is broken, the banks are zombies and the Anglo-American world is destined for third world status within fifteen-twenty years.
Carpe diem and enjoy what is sure to be a memorable game on Sunday.

Sorry, but
the Anglo-American world is destined for third world status within fifteen-twenty years.
That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. While we do need to establish a stronger credibility with our currency, and stop the arbitrary printing of money. We have so much capital, and so much ingenuity that in 15-20 years the American economy will still be the heartbeat of the world economy.
With that said, I’d hate to see any kind of lockout!

that's what the Romans said
"[The Giants] beat us down. We were beat by a grown-man team, a team we want to be like one day. They came in here and took it to us. Out-manned us, out-gunned us. ... It wasn't even close." - Raheem Morris, 9/27/09

they cleaned their bungholes
with their bare hands.
I’d say we’ve grown up a bit.

Economy
Socialism has never worked and as we enlarge the size of government and reduce personal responsibility and accountability we will be passed by China and, possibly, Brazil and India, nations not burdened by our environmentalists and race hawks, constantly on the outlook for discrimination and abuse of the environment. If we do not free our productive assets, in business, education, health care and elsewhere, we will become a second rate nation. Our stability and reputation for paying our debts in real money have saved us for decades but our current leaders are working as hard and fast as they can to undo all that.
