did they give back 3 points

on account of some mercy rule i wasnt aware of?

Lets hope that when gut check time comes again the Mets will pass it with flying colors.

Ehh. . .

Should of been 51-0 but I’ll gladly take it with open arms.

off topic

but as i watch the pats and broncos game with the boston throwbacks, it makes me really hate the giant’s grey pants.

please, bring back the white pants with red and blue stripes.

by cntrlalt on Oct 11, 2009 5:08 PM EDT reply actions

they are

but at least the broncs can use the excuse that they’re throwbacks. i really didn’t like the giants changing back to the old time duds, but they could ditch the grey pants and make them worlds better.

blue jersey, white pants, blue socks and the 80’s style GIANTS logo on the helmet instead of lowercase ny.

by cntrlalt on Oct 11, 2009 7:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't like the GIANTS logo

NY fits perfectly well and flows better

by Willgfass on Oct 11, 2009 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I love the grey pants

I just wish there was a touch more red on the jersey. Maybe outline the numbers. And the NY on the helmet could be outlined in red too.

what is this

queer eye for the Giants guy?

I'd be really pissed at the refs again

for the quick whistle…that wasn’t a quick whistle cuz on the replays you could only hear it when CC had the ball….but then again, this was never a game.

Jamarcus Russel sucks. He has no pocket prescence whatsoever, and when he does have time, he just throws a McNabb in the dirt (best way to compare it…Russel will never hold a candle to McNabb).

Now we can really look ahead to the Saints game. Should be a battle.

Russell has no business

being under center. This guy shouldn’t even be on a practice squad. He is a total disaster.

I can't believe I'm saying it after a 44-7 beatdown

but those refs were terrible.
Despite the score, they earned their terribleness.

the score doesn't mitigate

the refs failing to do their jobs. i think all too often these calls don’t get criticized unless they have a significant bearing on the outcome of the game.

it still doesn’t excuse it though. we’re almost a decade into instant replay, every fan at home has an HD view of the field, hell the fans in the stadium have an HD view of the play on some of these monitors. its inexcusable that refs keep blowing important calls like this.

don’t forget to mention Goff and his special teams play.

This.

The first time I’ve seen Goff be such a big part of anything.

Last week Kehl, this week Goff. So…hopefully that means Goff isn’t gonna be out for a month with a broken tailbone.

Although if anything they’ve shown that like DeOssie, they are very good ST players.

Not to mention

Goff and Kehl where both late round picks last year and seem to be coming along nicely. Let’s take into account the teams they excelled against as well but these types of picks have developed well for Reese. Given his track record I take the improved ST play from these guys as a positive sign that I can sit back, smile and reiterate “In Jerry we trust.”

  • Side note, I love the father-son Super Bowl ring legacy with the DeOssie’s. How often has that happened for the same team?

Can anyone believe this crap?

Really?

Eli Manning might have been inconsistent when he was younger, but the perception of him early on is hilariously distorted.

The man has been winning games since he came in the league. Obviously he’s great right now and much better, but Eli was NEVER as bad as Russell, even when Russel put it together for a game he was never as good as Eli when he first started out.

It’s Raiders fans, don’t worry about it. ;) Silver & Black Pride actually predicted a 23-10 win for the Raidas.

by Jsz on Oct 11, 2009 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Eli has clearly reached the "elite" plateau ...

Not only with the quality of the down field throws, overall accuracy of ball placement, etc., but he is mentally far ahead of most QB’s < 30. His consistency this year has been the real hallmark of his progression. Good times ahead.

I was commenting with a Patriots fan today about how Tom Brady hasn’t been Tom F*#kin’ Brady this year, but I think it’s time we acknowledged that Eli has become Eli F*#kin’ Manning, and not just Peyton’s little bro.

As for the retro uni’s comment earlier in this thread, how great would it be to have a Giants/Ravens SB rematch (to exorcise that demon), but have the league insist on throwbacks for the AFL 50th, and the Ravens have to take the field as … the Browns ??

by Shofner85 on Oct 11, 2009 8:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, how dare they

try to find some type of silver lining for their team’s QB situation. Eli was just one of three QBs they were comparing Russell with, they weren’t saying he’d definitely be the next Eli, or be anywhere near as great as Eli currently is. Lay off the Raiders already. The Giants still won, and all is well.

it wasn't so much a knock on the Raiders...

as just annoyance of the perception of Eli early on.

Russell loses games, Eli has won games since the start.

"Eli has won games since the start."

I challenge that assertion. Eli started out 0-6 and then needed a big comeback to win against the Cowboys in Week 17. He was absolutely awful in all but two of those games, and in fact had one of the lowest QB ratings in league history. It’s easy to forget b/c of how good he’s gotten, but there were a lot of question marks about Eli from that rookie season, some that have lingered way, way too long.

yea

i’m one of those people that hated the eli trade at first and it took me a long time to warm up to eli. i thought it was silly to trade for a QB that year because the next draft was full of QBs. i wanted robert gallery in that draft.

in hindsight it was clearly a trade that worked out for the best, but those first couple of years it was iffy. i mean there was a reason kurt warner was starting over eli, after all.

makes you wonder though, how would gallery’s career had turned out if he had come to new york and been surrounded with such good coaching and a quality line around him?

by cntrlalt on Oct 11, 2009 11:05 PM EDT up reply actions

+1

I felt the same way. The Giants weakness then was the O line. I wanted to improve that and go with Collins. I was glad they replaced Warner with Eli because Warner could have been killed back there the way he stands in looking to make the play until the last minute (he’s certainly one of the guttiest QBs ever, along with Joe Kapp.) Eli was terrible, but putting him in there turned out well: he didn’t get hurt and he gained invaluable experience. WOD, he’s among the top half-dozen best in the league right now, maybe higher depending how the rest of the year goes. One of the biggest stories re this team is how it built probably the best O line in the league w/o using high draft picks

by blue gonz on Oct 12, 2009 7:03 AM EDT up reply actions

That was his first year...

a bit longer (7 vs. 4 games) that Russell’s rook year..

But looking at last year, Russell’s first full year..and Eli’s first full year in 2005…..

No. No way is Russell even looking at an Eli Manning like career path.

We all know how inconsistent Eli was. But it was bad mixed with incredible, while Russsel’s inconsistency is awful mixed with above average (tho basically one game where he was above average this year…)

not saying JaMarcus is ever gonna be close to Eli, but Eli wasn’t exactly Ben Roethlisberger when it comes to winning early. It took until his 2nd year (which is still pretty darn good). It definitely helped having Tiki Barber, too.

yea, comparing eli

to russell is silly, but downplaying eli’s first year struggles is equally silly. that’s the nature of the QB position though, it takes time for players to come in and adjust….i remember hearing stray say that it takes a DE 3 seasons to get good. imagine how hard it is for a QB.

the difference is that eli had good coaching and depth around him to build on and learn, russell is a victim of a terrible situation in oakland. he gets railed on for not being a leader…but how can you be a leader when there’s no one in the organization to teach you how to be one?

Awe man...

I just read some of the Raiders game thread from the beginning and skipprd toward the end, i feel bad for them. It’s not like they came over here to smack talk, but they’re moreless demoralized and stunned!

Poor souls, and what they’re going through!

by Hootman on Oct 11, 2009 8:11 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah Hoot

Cable looked totally lost..Russell was awful, but I blame the piss poor coaching..That team does have talent and speed, but the coaching plain sucks.

by Bobbiblue on Oct 12, 2009 4:28 AM EDT up reply actions

No one with any sense wants to work for the Raiders

It wouldn’t surprise me if Cable was distracted by his impending arrest. In the right organization Russell might just succeed. Without at least a framework to work with many a good quarterback has looked dreadful. Think about Carr with Houston or even Warner with us when the O line was just learning.

Russel may never make it but he certainly hasn’t had a fair chance at Oakland.

As long as Al Davis is heading that franchise

they’ll never amount to anything. I thought they could make .500 this year, but that clearly isn’t the case. Not that the players can’t turn it around, but if they do it’ll be in spite of the coaching and upper management.

by YankeeDudeL on Oct 12, 2009 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions

Well

If Davis could mend his ways and get a top coach which is unlikely to happen. There are several super bowl winning coaches out there but doubtful any would coach under Davis.

Eli

I am not a fan of QB rating, but this is just pretty damn cool to see. The kid’s all grown up.

by daveh873 on Oct 11, 2009 11:03 PM EDT reply actions

This game was perfect..for many reasons

Eli was awesome and then was pulled out to preserve him, and Carr came in and did a great job..He only took off when it was appropriate. Who could ask for anything more!..We did what had to be done..In years past, the Giants would have played down to the level of the opponent..Not this year!!…and Tynes looks like he has things figured out..that is a good thing. I actually watched his kicks today versus walking away as I was doing thru the first 4 games. He only gave me one minor twinge in my back..but the kick was good. Our defense is really getting good, imagine what it’ll be when everybody gets healthy?..Wow

by Bobbiblue on Oct 12, 2009 4:16 AM EDT reply actions

Bradshaw..is

The real deal!!..He is doing an incredible job running!!..I’m a little concerned that he pulled up lame, but hopefully it is nothing serious..Still a little concerned with Jacobs..He keeps trying to break his runs outside..Maybe they are having him do that on purpose to keep him healthy. I don’t know.

by Bobbiblue on Oct 12, 2009 4:53 AM EDT reply actions

He has been successful going outside in the past.

Maybe he’s waiting too long to turn up field? Maybe D’s are learning how to contain him? They seem to be overpursuing him, but he can’t take advantage of it by by making Bradshaw-like cut backs. If teams keep loading the box against us, Eli will keep picking them apart with his young receivers, and Bradshaw will run up the yardage. If they go back to normal coverage, maybe BJ will be more like the old BJ. We can’t ignore the fact that other teams are looking to stop him as their #1 priority. That in itself makes him quite a weapon, given all we have in our armory.
